Also, if you think the Liberals won the last election, I'd say you're incorrect. Rather, it was the Cons that failed to take the win, and they have no one but themselves to blame.

Taiwan is a small island nation with less than 24 million people and not much bigger than Vancouver Island. According to you, we are 3rd in the world. Not bad when you consider we share a border with the US and have a number of people not willing to follow government guidelines. None of the opposition parties had a better plan neither did any of the provinces. 82% of death were in nursing homes mainly in Ontario and Quebec. That's what happens when you have for-profit health care and pay your employees peanuts, don't give them enough hours making them work multiple jobs and having them cross the border for work.

The last election was a win for the left.

Quoted for posterity. If it fits their social conformity, the left claim it as a win; everything else is racist.

Quote me all you want. The majority of voters voted for parties on the left. Canada is a left-leaning country.

That's with McKay leading the cons. They are better off with scheer.

Finance Minister Morneau resigns

With Morneau resigning, the Liberals lost a big voice in the cabinet, especially during this economic crisis.

PM Trudeau likely to prorogue current parliamentary session

Manic! 08-18-2020 10:28 AM

and we got a new finance minister Chrystia Freeland.

Jmac 08-18-2020 11:19 AM

I think Freeland has done pretty well in her other roles, IMO. Finance minister is probably the most important role aside from the PM position itself. I know she used to write for and edit for the Financial Times (and write for a few other publications) and was heavily involved in trade talks with the US and Mexico on the new agreement.

Traum 08-18-2020 11:22 AM

I agree that Freeland has been one of the more successful and capable persons in Trudeau's government. It remains to be seen whether a financial journalist would be a good enough fit for the Finance Minister's role, but at least it isn't like she is someone that just got air-dropped into the role with zero financial experience.

Place holder until Mark Carney wins byelection or gets voted in next election.

westopher 08-18-2020 05:50 PM

Happy to see morneau gone. He's a smarmy fucker and should have been gone after he "forgot" about his Spanish villas during tax time. I've always liked Freeland, hopefully she will be in Trudeau's spot next election.

I'm no fan of the cons, but the man has a point

Traum 08-22-2020 04:08 PM

I'm sure most people following this thread is at least kind of aware of this, but the federal Conservatives will announce the winner of their leadership race tomorrow. MacKay seems to be the frontrunner according to the media, but personally, I have seen far more advertising / campaigning and support for O'Toole.

It is gonna be an interesting day tomorrow...

Live stream results delayed.

westopher 08-23-2020 04:02 PM

The fact that Derek Sloan is in the running is fucking pathetic.

wreck 08-23-2020 04:09 PM

all that matters is Pierre is being properly groomed for the future..

lets keep his development steadfast, rendering him ready when its time to win and save our beloved country from the scourge that is this current iteration of the liberals.

Bouncing Bettys 08-23-2020 04:32 PM

My sources say the Cons have elected literally Hitler as their new leader.

Manic! 08-23-2020 05:57 PM

Did anyone watch scheers speach? What a goober.

Manic! 08-23-2020 09:01 PM

it's O'Toole. That's what the libs wanted.

Traum 08-23-2020 10:22 PM

The odd bit that struck me was how MacKay won in the first round, but ended up 2nd to O'Toole in the 3rd round... I would appreciate some insights into how this came to happen, and what this suggests within the Conservatives.

Perhaps the Cons just prefer the coziness of being the official opposition instead of the governing party? Or maybe they just can't help themselves from handing more ammo to JT...

From what I understand every riding is worth 100 points. Doesn't matter if it has 50 con members or 5000 members. Each con party member picks a first and if they want a second or third. After the first round, the person in the last place gets kicked out. Now his votes go to the persons his supporters picked second. The same thing happens in the third round. I don't think this is the best system.
