The Liberals are supposed to be the slimey party. NDP is proving themselves as bad or even worse and they're blatant about it
So the Liberals should’ve won with 37.2% of the vote as opposed to the NDP with 37.1% of the vote? And 26% of votes just don’t matter?

Terrible take.

The latest an election could be is May 2021. We’re talking 7 months early here, not years.

no, whether you agree with the system or not, the way our electoral system works in british columbia, and will remain as the electoral system after the NDP referendum attempting to change it was voted down, is that the liberals won the election with 43 seats compared to 41 for the NDP.

and whether youre an NDP supporter or not, the only way that John Horgan is premier of BC is because he made a back door deal with the Green party.

40 days to organize an election in the middle of a pandemic seems like a recipe for disaster to me. It should be further out and 100% mail in voting or something.

I wonder what's going to happen with Darryl Plecas' riding? His backstabbing of his party was pretty instrumental in handing the NDP their government.

I don't think an early election was necessary or smart, the ndp could've looked better if they spoke of an impending election, and discussed with the public their plan to prepare for one, then call an election, they'd get points for looking more responsible than hastily calling one

It should just be mail-in but even with new Brunswick which just held an election, mail in voting, while up, still didn't represent a high percentage of the votes (think it was something like 15%)

But with the corruption/laundering case literally dead in the water (the alleged mastermind was killed the other day), guess they've only got the highs of covid19 to run on, and who knows what that situation will look like if they waited longer

Can you clarify this?

https://vancouversun.com/news/politi...may-to-october

The title of this article states that the NDP changed the date, but the contents state that it was proposed, not passed.

Barring the snap election, when were we going to vote? May 2021 or October 2021? I can't seem to get google to give me a straight answer.

I need a source.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_B...neral_election

I guess it's here - they did pass it.

I actually agree with everything you said and truth be told I was actually in the first time in my life considering voting NDP in the next election but probably not now.

One is less slimey than the other.

Can we say accurately say that they "fucked the greens over" when their very own party leader left the party to become independent. Their new leader and new platform seems to be significantly different than when they formed the coalition.

First news of the snap-election caught me with a sour taste in my tongue as well, but given the choice of now or say in like 5-7 months when Covid second wave is hitting us hard with the cold weather... I'm starting to be a little more pragmatic about things day by day

You forget about Casinogate and Glen Clark pushing through a casino licenses in exchange for work to his home? What about the Fast Ferries and building shitty boats and creating jobs for his union honks at any cost, boats ended up being a useless pile of hot garbage and we could have bought working ones for a fraction of the cost from someone who actually knows how to build ferries. They are all scumbags, they might not get into Politics with the plan of being one but eventually most of them become selfish shitters or they are trying to repay favours to the people that helped get them in there.

The entire system is trash, vote for the trashman that represents your values most is all you can do.

Generally speaking the kind of people who get into politics are not the people you actually want in charge of anything. But the kind of person you want running stuff has zero interest in politics.

According to a fact check website NDP has completed or is in the process of fulfilling 100 of their 122 campaign promises and platforms. Honestly that’s a pretty good number. I’m not happy to be voting right now, but I’m not cutting off my nose to spite my face. They have done a pretty good job of running the province so far, and the OMG NDP WILL SPEND US INTO OBLIVION rhetoric clearly hasn’t happened.
I’ll try and find the link for what I posted above but it was in my Apple news and it’s a bitch to find.

I don't forget anything...........

I remember Social Credit. Vanderslam, Whacky Bennett and his son, Grace McCarthy (although she wasn't a premier).

I also remember Mike Harcourt, Glen Clark, Ujjal Dosanjh, etc. I wasn't born yesterday, you know........

I know how politics work. All of them are slimy. You have to be to get into power. Of all of them Crusty bugged me the most. Anyway, two things never to discuss with anyone. Politics and religion.

Yup. Of all the slimy fokkers out there, I must say, this Horgan fella has surprised me a bit. Giving him one more term might not be that bad an idea.

Bonnie Henry, my god, she's getting death threats? What's wrong with people these days?

Jagmeet Singh was followed down Wellington Street today by that guy who tried to do a "citizen's arrest" on a Radio-Canada journalist. "Want me to arrest you?" he asks the NDP leader.

The video ends with him telling Singh: "Next time I see you, we're gonna have a dance."

https://twitter.com/_llebrun/status/...037367808?s=19

Idiot belongs to this group. https://www.vice.com/en_ca/article/d...justin-trudeau

I would have loved to see him touch Jagmeet.

Laughable! A man who signed up to a job with a lifetime pension complaining about the burden on taxpayers.

Glad he just figured out how to divide a deficit by the population and then state how much it would take each person to pay it back lol... as if any country's deficit ever gets paid off or is at zero

What a waste of time. Conservative government would have done any different? Sure sure sure.

He goes on an on about the war and how brave soldiers came home and WORKED and got rid of the deficit in 1 year... North America was in a horrible starvation level depression for FIFTEEN YEARS before/during the war... the economy turned around because it had hit rock bottom and had nowhere to go but up... companies stopped making weapons and started making household items... that recovery was based on consumption and investment! The comparison to COVID job loss is completely irrelevant, there was no war, there was no substitute products being made in factories to fight any war... consumption, outside of retailers who did extremely well (food and Amazon basically) ground to a halt. Investment ground to a halt. Entire industries have gone broke with no alternate form of income. Capitalism is designed for war, it's not designed for a pandemic.

He's out to lunch, he sounds great but he's full of shit. His points are only concise because he's glossing over what actually happened, misconstruing facts and coming to false and easy conclusions that support his own views.

The liberals are trying to convince people that we are doing this for the greater good of everyone. Be it here in Canada or the Dems down in the states.

They do everything for the "greater good".

You know the problem? Resources are finite. In order to give, you must take.

Gov't deficits are taking money from our FUTURE generations so that people TODAY can live better.

Take a look at Liberals plans, Dems plans... etc. You'd notice one thing... they keep telling you how to spend your money while putting very little emphasis on how to get those money.

They make it sound good to the average folks... we tax the riches, tax the corps... etc. Those people/entities aren't dumb. They would only tolerate up to a point that's indifferent for them. As soon as they are starting to lose, they would move. They have the resources to MOVE wherever the heck they want just so that you can't collect money from them. They also take the jobs, and all their spending with them when they move.

I'm in Commercial RE... and this is reflecting firsthand. Money are fleeing CA in masses.

I used to be a liberal (leaning at least)... but changed 180 because their ideologies are great on paper like communism... but they can never work in the long term in real life.

The hypocrisy is amazing isn't it? I love it when conservatives love to harp about how "terrible" government is, yet you see those same men, both in Canada and in the States, clamor to work in those said positions in government, often times as lifelong careers.

I guess government is awful for us, but it's great for you, huh? It's amazing to me that people still fall for this garbage.

I didn't watch the video, but based on your description, was he comparing Canada's recovery after WW2 in relation to COVID?

That is an absolutely baffling and hilarious comparison if so, how can a politician have no literal awareness of how diametrically different our global economy now works in relation to 75 years ago? Complete rhetoric and verbal diarrhea.

I used to be a liberal (leaning at least)... but changed 180 because their ideologies are great on paper like communism... but they can never work in the long term in real life.
fiscally speaking, that is the single biggest issue that will have devastating long term impacts on -all- Canadians.

look, I get the hypocrisy and hyperbole that 68style brought up and everyone thanked, but this is where we are at. the average voter has no clue what's going on and needs this kind of grand standing and exaggerated examples to drive home basic macro points.

capital is leaving the country like a mass exodus. we are way past the point of worrying about being offensive / offended.
