When it comes to tolls on Port Mann, I think you adjust the pricing to get that price point where you can control the traffic flow and still funnel people to use transit and other bridges that are not tolled. There will always be a price point where people will say, 'Eff it, I'm taking transit." or, "Eff it, it's not worth the wait on Pattullo, I'll pay the $2.00". This way, you can control traffic and have some money in the coffers.
Pre-NDP (and pre-Covid), it would have been prudent to reduce the toll, I forget what it was at $3.xx each way? Traffic on hwy 1 was sparse, flowing, other bridges like some have said were parking lots. Try $2.50 each way.

Transit is great if you live near a sky train and work downtown but for people in the Burbs, the ones that are most likely to drive these bridges and get hit with the tolls it just doesn't make sense a lot of time.

You'd be surprised, back in the days when you paid 2 tolls to use Port Mann (to work and from work), plus a day's parking DT ... that's about a $30 day right there. Transit back and forth is less than $10. Multiply the difference for 20 working days a month and it adds up.

For the love of everything if tolls are put anywhere they need to be less of a mess for out of towners than the old system. I've probably ranted about it on here before but it was terrible every time I went down there.

So Liberals swinging hard.
Massey Tunnel to be built Immediately whatever that means and a referendum for Surrey on the Police transition.
I live in Surrey, I think at some point Surrey does need it's own force but I really don't like how this idiot mayor rammed it through at any cost. That said not sure what authority the Provincial Govt. has to step in? Also I'm not sure that actually helps them in regards to votes? Lots of people are pissed about the RCMP but mayor Dougie has a lot of influence with a big demographic that resides in Surrey. https://vancouversun.com/news/politi...-massey-bridge https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...rcmp-1.5750117

Thats worth more than the savings for most.

To me, it looks like he's doing what the people who voted for him asked.

I bet if there was a referendum it would be a big no vote based on how hes handled it, that said I don't think province can interveen.

They're talking about dissolving ICBC too, as if we don't remember them robbing their surplus only years ago |

ICBC has flaws, but it's the lesser of the evils in my opinion. Completely dissolving it would be a terrible idea.

I couldn't believe the idiocy of them bringing the ICBC issue up themselves. Everyone knew the ICBC dumpster fire is a hot button issue, and the Liberals were at the center of creating that fiasco.
If the Libs honestly think voters would have forgotten who caused the dumpsterfire, that just shows you how cluelessly tone-deaf and detached from reality they are.
To be fair to the Liberals though, they didn't mention "dissolving ICBC"; they simply said they will open auto insurance up to competition. And even then, ICBC or the equivalent of its crown corp still wouldn't completely go away. If the auto insurance market is opened up, there would still be a need for a crown corp of some sort to exist -- I'm sure there'd be a mandate of some sort created to ensure that no person would be denied auto insurance coverage if they need it -- you'd just have to pay through the roof to get coverage. Essentially, there'd be a crown corp to provide coverage to all those shxtty drivers that go denied by the private insurers, and to make that can of worms work, the insurance premiums are going to be bloody expensive.

LOL people are so dramatic now.
You see sooooo many people online throwing around terms like "communist" or "genocide" or "Nazi" or "government controlled" or talking about their freedoms getting squashed etc.
I am so sure that precisely none of those people have ever lived in a place with actual persecution. It's pretty laughable really, bunch of soft ass bitches who think someone telling them when they can water their lawn is akin to gestappo marching through their door and shooting their whole family.

It’s bizarre the need for approval some people have, I know at least 1 person who drives super cars and has a yacht etc and he touts himself online as self-made but he works as an FA at a bank which obviously does not afford anyone those riches lol

I guarantee we do Westopher. Vancouver is small, and these slime balls congregate in the same circles
One of them was recently at a fundraiser posting picture of himself sucking Andrew Wilkinson's balls. It was vomit inducing.
