NDP and Liberal leaders are racist for treating everyone as an equal. Liberal MLA being called sexist/racist during a comedy roast. WTF is this provincial election?

God the debate was painful, what a sad state of affairs politics are in.
I actually liked Ferstenau the best probably but I can never come to grips with some of the greens policies

I'm in the riding where the Greens are running the 17 year old girl.
I know she doesn't have a hope of winning against Lana Popham, so it's all a publicity stunt and that means they're not taking it seriously. Which means I can't take them seriously.
I don't care how "mature" she thinks she is. Come back when you've been in the workforce and have dependents, then you'll be able to relate to my needs as a constituent.

Doesn't make sense how someone that age can run for office in our Province. Don't you have to be like, the age of majority, to participate in majority rules?

Plus, who is she representing? Young people? And, she’s a she! See where I’m going with this?
I hope she wins and shows the older people that the youth in this country needs a voice. A breath of fresh air. Can’t be any worse that the pile of shit that’s in politics, atm.
Plus, I’m pretty sure she has parents who are in the workforce. She sees stuff from a different viewpoint. I say why not?

I say why not? | It's a shame her, and other younger people cant have a real voice in politics without being voted in to represent a riding. While I don't believe she has the knowledge to represent a geographical area, maybe thats an issue with politics these days? Maybe a switch to representatives from different demographics as opposed to geographical locations could better represent people in Canada? Young people are left behind more and more after every generation. It's time they had a voice, but I don't think it's realistic from this angle.

We really need to, somehow, make politics relevant to the young. This girl is obviously not the right person, but perhaps one day, someone will come along and be successful.
To be successful in politics, you must make deals with the devil. Along the way, you become jaded and whatnot. You end up losing the real reason why you got into politics. Nowadays most politicians get into it for the worst of reasons.
It is what it is..........

I think most of us are at an age where we can look at ourselves and the people we grew up with and honestly say most of us were naive idiots when we were 18 no matter how smart we thought we were.

I remember a few who were really weird enough to be very versed in politics at an early age.
Mind you when I was that age, things were a little different.

Any political party/politician during an election.
We're going to invest $ x billion to ______. We're going to cut $ x of taxes. We're going to put more $ in your pocket..... We're fucking dipshits, we like to spend money that's not ours and we're going to increase spending while cutting back on government's income through taxation.
This bullshit power grab by Horgan, watch we waste millions on this election and it end up being the same minority government.

When I reflect how I was in my 20's and even my 30's a totally different mindset than I have now in my mid 40's. When I'm in my 60's I'm sure i'll look back on where my mind is now and think I've grown a lot.

When I watched the debate I felt he was missing something, at least Gordon was a good speaker. Horgan is much more personable IMO and the Green Party Leader well uh...I mean yeah.

It's not really about sexism, ageism or whatever discrimination one wants to frame on her.
Physically speaking, our brain isn't fully developed until the age of 25 or so. That's why we only learn to be less impulsive and "mature" when making decisions until the later stage in our 20s because our prefront cortex, which manages impulsive behaviours, only finishes its development until then.
Thus, young people can have a say in policy making. I'm not against that whatsoever. However, electing a representative whose physical development hasn't reached maturity... regardless how much experience she might have gone through life, it's physically impossible for her brain to be making the same level of impulsiveness (or the lack of it) as a more mature candidate when it comes to decision making.

Voting age and age of majority are two different things, which is what Civic Blues was saying. You can vote at 18 but you are not, legally speaking, recognized as a full adult within BC law until you are 19.
