Let me just add that your homies on the Conservatives end would make this problem even worse, if we take anything from what they're doing in Alberta https://breachmedia.ca/rise-in-alber...tion-strategy/

Depends on the level. To be an advanced care paramedic you basically cram med school into 3 years lol. The thing that's really fucked about it is they don't have as big of a scope of practice as a doctor, but they end up operating outside that scope so often as the goal is to keep people alive. It can create a lot of difficult decisions and situations where you are essentially "breaking the rules" to properly do your job. I went to school to be an EMT but called it quits after one day of practicum. The biggest roadblock for me was the idea of unbiased care. Could I really treat an injured drunk driver to the best of my ability after he kills someone in an accident? Absolutely fuck no.

According to Indeed, the average salary for paramedics is $69.06/hr. https://ca.indeed.com/career/paramed...itish-Columbia
Multiply that by 40 hrs per week, and 52 weeks of pays, we're looking at ~$143k/yr.
It is not shockingly high pay, and I'd say the pay is too low given the tough decisions, the importance, and the yuck factor the job comes with. But I also wouldn't call it a crappy pay, esp when I'm sure it'd be super easy to raking up additional OT hours.
Or is Indeed just BS-ing?

That's 100% not true and I have no fucking clue where they got that from. Nowhere in North America pays that. 1st year paramedics in BC get paid about $27 an hour. The cap for advanced life support paramedics is like $46/hr.

$27/hr is abysmal for a job as important and as repulsive as that. Even at $46/hr, it is still an insult.
No wonder we have a shortage of them...

I think the reason the indeed data was skewed is because they probably have travel contracts and private paramedics for places like mines and large industrial facilities.
I know some of the travel nursing organizations offer contracts that end up being like 120-150 an hour for certain places in the US, especially when covid was destroying the US. My wife thought about doing it, but that was at a time when no one really did know what was going on and I wasn't comfortable with the risks.

The worst part of a firemen’s job is being a first responder. The mental trauma from that job is life changing.
A paramedic ONLY sees that part, and are paid half as much? It’s kinda messed up. Don’t even get to save a cat from a tree.

No wonder we have a shortage of them... | To add to this, when they're "on-call" they're paid a few bucks per hour, $2 to be exact.
This was bumped up to a whopping $12 https://vancouversun.com/news/local-...42%20an%20hour. "The deal between B.C. Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) and the union representing paramedics, the Ambulance Paramedics of B.C., means that paramedics who are on call waiting to be dispatched to an emergency will receive “pager pay” of $12 an hour, up from $2 an hour."
Wow! Imagine having to sit at the health authority's beck and call for a mere $12 an hour (below minimum wage). Your day is filled with not being able to make plans or do fuck all because if your pager goes off you need to roll out immediately, so most of the day you're making $12 an hour, you're only paid the $27 an hour rate when you're actually in the ambulance heading to a call.
It's literally a shit job.

Good for them.
Turd - this will hurt all Canadian pensions, yea no shit bro.
Gonna have an even greater domino effect as we see the boomers retire who have no home paid off and can no longer afford the rents. Gonna be a good ol’ time!

BC and ontario should pull out too... GOOD LUCK QUEBEC! | And Alberta -- well, Danielle Smith -- thinks they deserve to retrieve over 1/2 of the money that is currently sitting in the CPP funds. If Ontario were to use the same formulae to estimate the portion of CPP they deserve, they'll get over 60%!
60+% + 50+% = 110+%
The math is just excellent~!
The fortunate thing is -- the majority of Albertans right now are not buying Smith's BS. But with Alberta... you just never know how redneck stupid they can be.
The CPP is one of the best run retirement funds in the world. For Alberta to pull out, they would be exposed to greater risks while having fewer options to invest in.

Go to Montreal and you won't. It's so much nicer than here. Those qubecois have complained themselves into paradise over there.

i go 4 times a year for port related events. I dont find it all that great, the city itself is quite ugly geographically.
I do like the old port district but the road condition and the overall traffic downtown is a horrible mess.

In 2021 downtown Montreal was a complete dump compared to what it had been the last time I had visited

Eh it's fine. Some people like the urban grit and there's fewer homeless cause they'd freeze to death in Winter. Much culture though. Montreal isn't really Quebec though, it's Montreal. World away from Provincial Quebec.

Went to Quebec city, Montreal, and Tremblant during that trip
I dunno.. for me who loves Europe more than anything this pseudo-euro vibe quebecers have always tried to potray has always kinda rubbed me the wrong way
That area around tremblant etc. is quite nice but it’s nothing compared to the interior here
