I put almost 900km on the car over the weekend and the only hiccup was the wideband O2 sensor dying so I'll call that a successful trip. We went up through Merritt to Spences Bridge (Highway 8 is awesome) and then down to Hope (nothing too crazy but the views are nice and the tunnels are fun) on the way down. Someone actually pulled over to let me pass on 8 which blew me away as nobody has done that since the first time I took 5A from Princeton like 6-7 years ago.

We were running behind so no time for pictures but tonight I managed to get the Alfa rally computer test fitted along with the drivers display and codrivers lights, so here's a shot of that.

I did something similar recently too, also for use as a fun winter vehicle.

Ballers up in here... buying basically brand new hot hatches as winter beaters

Guys remind me of those sheikhs in Dubai that buy brand new Camry's just to try 360's on the highway

Lol, I'm almost 40. I need a reliable car that I don't want to worry about. I don't think it's a stretch to buy a 5 year old hatchback at this point in my life.

I have one too, except it's my daily that I try to take care of all year round. Kind of good people are finally noticing what a good car it is, but also kind of depressing it's only categorized as a "winter beater." lol...

Don't get me wrong, I love this car and I take care of it as well. I purchased it for the handling and the driving experience. Also the practicality of it being a small car with 4 doors is helpful living in Vancouver. The mods are almost endless and it's easy to get more and more HP out of it.

My pride and joy tho is a summer only car and when I get the chance to drive it, I do. The FiST is my off season daily driver. The ITR is my summer car.

can see why you'd want something more reliable for winter duties (that average $2-3k beater probably has a weak/dying electrical system), newish fiesta seems a bit overkill but if you got the means, why not

My fake TypeS. Picked up this 6mt TL few weeks ago as my winter beater. Love it so far, might keep for longer.

Quite like they've done with the new gen Camry. Would want to drive a 10G Accord and 2.5T Mazda 6 to see how it compares.
Was lucky enough to score this Mustang Ecoboost Convertible as my new corporate car. Mixed feelings on this one, but it's changed my perspective on soft tops and daily driving a sports car.

Pros:
  • Practicality: I've moved a lot of stuff in the back despite the lack of fold down seats... 2 x 275/60R20 tires, 88 key digital piano, shoe rack, office chair, etc.
  • Convenience: A pretty solid adaptive cruise makes commutes pretty easy. Center console autolocks and scheduled remote start is nice in the morning.
  • Space: Compared to the Camaro convertible I was offered, the back seats of the Mustang can actually fit people up to 5'9" even with the top up. Legroom and shoulder room are fairly limited though.
  • Style: The sequential headlights, puddle lamps, and digital dash are pretty extra. Interior and exterior design strike a nice balance between sporty and premium.
  • It's likeable: Even other millennials who aren't car enthusiasts seem to really like it. Doesn't seem to have the connotations of a luxury brand. Attention on the street comes is really diverse - from older businessmen to the less fortunate, I've had some really great conversations.

Cons:
  • Powertrain: The 10 speed is super jerky always and incredibly inconsistent to paddle input. Like Motortrend, I ran into scenarios where it would just "stall" and not move forward in second gear for a second or two. The engine seems to heat soak really easily as well.
  • Build quality: The rear passenger window often times doesn't roll up fully and seal. The comfort access seats make a groaning noise because they rub against the center console when moving up. Fairly major rattles at 9k miles.

I feel like the whole car's an oxymoron.

It's got decent space but doesn't have fold down rear seats.
It's fairly sporty but the Ecoboost/10AT powertrain is really bad.
It's not a luxury brand, but comes with luxury brand pricing (47k for the spec I was given). Makes you wonder if a 2/4 series vert is a better option.
It's a great daily driver but the build quality is questionable.

I want to try a luxury hardtop convertible and/or the Mustang GT vert with the manual next to see how the experience differs.
I actually test drove a Veloster Turbo the other day... great drive, but I don't know if I would be happy going back to a fixed roof car.
