What's the residual rate and interest rate on the Cayenne?
I found Porsche always have shitty lease rate (e.g. non subsidized rate around 5%), and somewhat low residual. (50% @ 36months)
If I were to look for a Cayenne S (or really any cars), the only thing I'd care about is the monthly lease payment with $0 upfront.
This is the most accurate numbers to reflect how much the car actually costs you.
If the payment is $2000/month and you think it is worth your enjoyment, go for it!
Comparatively, if the the non-S is only $1200/month, would you be as happy with the slower car but an extra $800/month to spend somewhere else?
Forget about keeping the cars for 4 years plus...people who want a $120K porsche/luxury suv usually don't want it after 4 years / 80K and no warranty. Especially with so much new technology being added and updated every years.
Oh man....take it with a grain of salt (someone who works at a Porsche Service Centre with a different climate than Vancouver), I would not touch any new Porsche Cayenne/Panamera with a 10 ft pole.
2019 Cayennes problems I have seen thus far:
-10 warning lights popping up after 89km on the clock. Many regularly coming in under 1000km.
-Key always dying/not working despite changing batteries
-Plastic trim on interior (doors panels etc) cracking
-Leather interior with questionable quality
-Overheating centre armrest box.
-Exterior door sills cracks and blemishes
Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I'll edit this list when I think of more

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the tax on a $175,000 car is now 25% (5% GST + 20% PST). Cars between $125,000 and $150,000 pay 15% PST and cars above $150,000 pay 20% PST. On a $175,000 car you are paying $43,750 in tax alone!
I'm sure you've all been desperate to hear what happened with my Porsche negotiations... right? So here's an update...
After your input here and much further research (and test drives), I finally decided on a Cayenne S built that I'm confident will be ideal for my needs/wants.... and after a few back-and-forth convos with the sales rep at my local Porsche dealer, a deal was finally agreed on today and I'll be signing/paying my deposit later this week to secure an August delivery.
Thanks again to everyone who has shared their 2 cents in this thread, because it was actually genuinely helpful... as you'll see from below (the final build), I took a lot of your advice to heart and was even able to secure a discount of around 3% which is enough to get the options I really want while keeping the total before-tax price just shy of $125k to avoid the extra 5% tax.
I probably could've landed a better deal from another dealer, but I didn't even have to deal with that thankfully. (Props to the dealership here, and my sales rep, for being reasonable and pleasant to deal with thus far... so far it's been a pretty good experience working with them).
Thanks for the wisdom, RS, and you can expect my sarcastic and long-winded review to be posted here in 9 months or so... (unless the deal falls through before then, in which case it'll be a scathing anti-Porsche rant instead)
Here I am wondering if I should spend the extra $1.50 for the second meat item in my lunch box...

Haha, I had to forgo those to keep the MSRP under the $125k luxury tax threshhold... but I'm sure Porsche will sell me some for $9 billion down the road once the car is delivered.
And as for the VIP Protection Package... no, I haven't been offered anything like that actually. I was expecting to be pitched on an extended warranty of some sort when I paid my deposit last week, but they didn't try to sell me anything else and actually gave me a cool little model Cayenne toy thing as a 'thanks for buying' gift. I assume they'll try to sell me all those sorts of things when the car is delivered and the balance is due (late August, apparently), and I'll have to do some research on that stuff in advance before deciding whether to say yes to any extras.

And I think "no safety systems" might be a bit of a stretch, haha... it has something like 14 airbags, pedestrian auto-sense/auto-braking, massive 10-piston brakes, etc... but I totally know what you mean.
For me the biggest "WTF" is the lack of a decent stereo being included in the $92,600 MSRP.... how can a car that expensive come with a rubbish 150-watt 10-speaker sound system? Or the full remote keyless ("Comfort Access") not being standard is pretty bad too, actually.... (Both are fixed by adding the $6k Premium package which of course I did)

We have agreed to find out when the car is delivered in August by taking them on some 4x4 trails. I'm a child, yes, but it should be pretty fun.
Coming early September, 2019: either a new thread in this very forum bragging about my $140k minivan and how it matched the 'Yota off-road and survived.......... OR, a hilarious viral video post titled "Massive fucking moron drowns his brand new Porsche in 4 feet of mud".

last gen was known for transfer case failures. one of the causes was water getting in. not sure if they fixed that on this gen.
Congrats on the purchase! I'm no fan of $100k SUV's but you seem super into it which is awesome! Love the research and reasonings behind getting certain options and avoiding others. Your M4 review was one of best reads I've had in a long time so I look forward to a similar one for the Cayenne.

My understanding is that the entire drivetrain is all-new for this generation, so hopefully that's been addressed.... will check some Porsche forums about this type of thing though before the car is delivered (and before I take it 'swimming' ).

Thanks! And yes, definitely will leave a similar review for the Cayenne when I've put a few thousand miles on her.
As for the 4Runner wager.... sure, sounds good, just going to need you to put on some 305/40ZR20 street tires and remove any TRD parts from the vehicle before we begin. :-)
(But um, yeah, realistically I think that would be unwise on my part... haven't looked up approach/breakover specs on the 4Runner, but I imagine they're impressive. Sweet ride, congrats!)

Nah, I ended up deciding to buy it instead. Leasing doesn't really make sense this time, and I am hopefully going to be able to avoid financing as well.
But yes, I'm sure you're right about the potential end-of-lease issues resulting from off-road incidents.... but thankfully since I'm not leasing I only have to worry about there being "hell to pay" from my wife...

Thanks! I too would assume the residual is fixed with a Porsche lease, but I think Badhobz was referring to any underbody / mechanical damage that would be considered "excess" at the end of the lease and therefore need to be repaired (at great cost, no doubt).
Not likely going to do Euro delivery. I have another month or so to change my mind on that, but the wife and I have already booked a month-long trip to Europe in June, and I suspect my bank account balance will be hurting after that and the car purchase.... (but, maybe I'll do euro for my 911 purchase....

VIP package, depending on which one you pick, is a dealer package, not a porsche package. Basically annual detailing, wheel repair, and maybe even tire repair.
I suggest getting the extended tire warranty. Doesnt matter what brand you go with, this is just a good extra to have.
If you decide upon keeping the Cayenne, you can extend the warranty when you get closer to the end of the standard 4yr/80k. You can extend in 2 yr intervals, up until something crazy like 12 years. yes, 12 years. None of the Porsche Dealerships that i know of are Corporate owned (maybe one or 2 in the states are), thus don't expect your personal information to be transferred dealership to dealership. The warranty information should be shared at the porsche level though
This is how luxury auto makers get more money out of you. All the extras that are available on cars that are half or one third the price. But I guess all the money goes into the R&D of the driving dynamics and comfort, right?

The VIP package was pretty useless. Every year until expiry, I went to do a full detail on the car. They source the job out to other shops. As expected, there were still many dirty spots. Also, I had a small dent on the car, but the dealership said that it was bigger than what is allowed under their policy, so they denied it.
The extended warranty was worse. I want to be clear that this is a third party warranty. If it is the porsche original extended warranty, they outcome would probably be different. I had many issues with my 2011 porsche cayenne s. I'm shocked that many of these issues were listed above, still appearing in the 2019 models. For example, there were a lot of squeaking when driving. When I press down on the dashboard, I could hear squeaking as well. Also, I had the upgraded bose sound system and the audio would skip/pause every couple minutes (the dealership told me this was normal.... and told me to "f" off). And sometimes my GPS screen and audio would completely die (I would have to restart my car to fix this). Also I had a notable clicking from the rear suspension every time I made a slow turn. After looking through forums, I found out it was most likely cause by a defect with the Porsche torque vectoring system (a 2k option). I had many other issues, including issues with the keyfob. But these are some of the ones I remember.
Tl;dr, I had some issues with the car which were diagnosed many times during the period of my manufacture warranty. They could never figure out what the problem was. After the manufacture warranty was over, I still had my third party warranty. I tried to get them to fix the issues but they said that I had to pay out of my own pocket for all the diagnostics. Even after it is diagnosed, they could not guarantee if they can fix it or not. After playing ping-pong with the dealership and the third party warranty company, I gave up. They never offered me a solution and basically told me to "F" off.
Funny thing was a couple weeks later, my ignition coil gave up. There goes $1,000+. Looking back at the service invoices, the technicians did mention that there were some cracks on the ignition coil, but my service advisor never mentioned anything, and this was before my warranty ended. Anyways, the VIP package was $3,590 and the extended third party warranty was $4,308. That is the most expensive car wash I ever had
Honestly, I was thinking of trading in for a 911 or cayman, but this experience left a sour taste in my mouth. What I got out of this is that the quality of p-cars are not up to standard. Anyways, congrats, hopefully your experience with the car will be better and make sure to add on the sports exhaust. Not adding that option was my greatest regret. And if you like music, I heard the burmester sound system is a beast.

Just want to mention, despite all these problems. The cayenne was pretty fun to drive. I just wish that their quality control to be better. I have no vendetta against porsches. Once I get over this, I may get my dream car, a 911.
