Midrange Phone to Consider

I'm looking to replace my low end Cdn $200 Android phone with something a little more usable. My current piece of crap was bought in late 2017. On paper, the current phone didn't look too bad -- Snapdragon 400-series chipset, 4GB RAM, 1080 display, etc. And initially, while it wasn't lightning fast, its speed and response was acceptable.

Fast forward to today, it is no longer cutting it. In particular, the phone is laggy and slow-to-respond. If there are any pending instant messages or updates, I can't really fire up any other apps until I've cleared (and read) all the messages first. (If I don't do this, the phone becomes extra laggy to the point where it becomes impractical to use to phone). Since I still have ~10GB worth of internal storage on the phone, so it isn't a matter of running out of storage space. There are also some other annoyances with the phone as well, but I won't go into those details for now.

So my question to the tech savy RS is:

- What price range and specs constitute a solid midrange Android phone?

In my mind, I am still stuck in the world where $800+ is a high end phone. But today's mobile phone prices are obviously way beyond that. From my rudimentary research and personal experience (with the current pos phone), it seems like something with a Snapdragon 600-series chipset or better would be appropriate. The amount of RAM is also a big question as well. Is there a big difference between 3GB vs 4GB vs 6 or 8GB RAM?

If there are other issues I should pay attention to, I'd love to hear those as well.

[Koodo] Koodo iPhone 8 refurb Tab medium $0 - Page 16 - RedFlagDeals.com Forums

If you're into Apple. Even new Snapdragon 855 scores less than an iPhone 7 from 2.5 years ago, so an 8 should last you very long.

I recently bought a S7 Edge used for $300 this December. It's got all the right bands for reception, and I used VOIP, so a data only plan works for me. The battery usually lasts me about two days, and the phone doesn't lag. I pay 17 dollars a month for 3 GB, unlimited texts, and $0.009 per minute for the rare occasion that I used voice.

Before that I had a Xiaomi Note 4X on a SnapDragon 625 chipset, didn't lag during normal use. It was a little laggy playing pokemon go. The data reception wasn't that good due to lack of bands on the phone. It cost about $220 new.

The Xiaomi and the S7 Edge has 3 GB and 4 GB respectively, there isn't a difference during daily use. I don't use more than 5 tabs for the browsers, and use anything too data intensive on the phone.

I gotta say that the camera on the s7 is much much better in low light. If taking photos of documents is something you do, it might be something to consider.

Typical due diligence I used when buying a new phone was asking for a receipt of the phone, going to the sellers carrier to confirm there are no remaining payments on the phone, and doing a IMEI check.

As far a specs for a decent phone for me it would be:
8 core on a 14 nm fab
3 GB RAM
access on all the LTE bands on the carrier network
3600 mah battery
Support on XDA Developers, custom ROMs/Recoveries available
good low light camera
1080p on a OLED or AMOLED screen
expandable microSD storage

Ordered from highest priority to lowest. But there are lots of phones out there, it's reasonable to find one with all those requirements.

100% fake. Packaging is incorrect. Phone in pictures is real, but he's giving you something else.

[Fido] 3GB LTE Data Plan $15, BYOD, no contract - RedFlagDeals.com Forums

edit: I should mention, if you are able to get this plan, call into customer service and ask to disable outgoing SMS and voice. I learned that turning on VoLTE on my phone used voice service. At least, I think so. I had some extra charges on my last bill. It's $1 a minute and 25C a SMS for outgoing service.
