TELUS $70 15GB offer

I'm on that $60 / 10GB plan with TELUS, which is now going up to $70 as of next month :yuno:

Today I received an automated text message from TELUS offering me 15GB for $70, all I have to do is reply with YES.

What's the catch??

TypeRNammer 03-12-2019 03:48 PM

There's no catch, you can switch to that plan if you want.

But be aware, even if you switch, it's still subject to a price increase in the future

EDIT: spell check

That's what pissed me off...
Telus/FIDO/Rogers will increase their prices year after year even during your contract years.

whitev70r 03-12-2019 05:32 PM

Anything over 2-3 GB/mth is excessive and unnecessary.

asian_XL 03-12-2019 06:25 PM

^monthly usage is very subjective, but that price is so expensive compare to the other countries

Also another thing for the op

Besides Telus offering you the 70 dollar 15gb plan, ask them if they have a migration plan to Koodo 60 dollar 10gb. If so, take that in a heart beat.

I've had all sorts of plans with Koodo including out of province plans with local numbers. I've never been kicked out or had a price increase with all my plans.

YMMV as this is based on my own experience.

I’ve gone over 10Gb multiple times and I never even watch videos

whitev70r 03-13-2019 06:11 AM

^ WTH do you do on your phone? Aren't you like in wifi zone 75% of the time (namely home or office/school). 99% of coffee shops have free wifi. > 10GB a month is going to rewire your brain into something effed up.

Hondaracer 03-13-2019 07:08 AM

Lol if you’re worried about cellular signals ruining your brain you should have a panic attack if you live in a high rise with all the networks running through your brain.

My data use was mainly instagram when I was going over. And with 10GB I’m not too worried about asking coffee shops for their Wi-Fi info etc. I’ll be on data until I get home 95% of the time. That’s the point of having 10gb

unit 03-13-2019 07:11 AM

there's no catch except that most people don't use that extra 5GB, so they're just making an extra $120 per year for free and customers get to feel like telus is doing them a favor.

My work does not provide wifi for personal phones - only corporate phones. I end up bumping my 10GB limit often if I decide to watch Youtube or other videos at lunch.

I love my $20 unlimited 4G data :awwyeah:

I remember in Cambodia it was even cheaper, unlimited 4G data for $3 usd or something crazy like that.

Mr.HappySilp 03-13-2019 08:03 AM

When I was traveling in China I paid 300RMB about 60 CAD for 10GB that's good for 60 days. But no talk time. Still works out cheaper than Canadian.

I wasn't thinking of the wifi/cellular waves in the air, I was thinking more so brain neuroplasticity, damage to actual structure, emotional/mental health, and functional changes to brain through exactly things like IG, Youtube, excessive use of electronic devices. I don't think it is tin foil hat conspiracy theory.

Some of you folks are like rats in a cage, the carriers are the experimenters outside. 'Let's see what happens when we give them more sugar water'.

Anyhow, this is obviously not the place for education. You all just keep on drinking 'more data the better' cool aid.

Hondaracer 03-13-2019 08:50 AM

I use the moment app which tracks screen time, have been for about a year

My average use over the year is almost dead on 2 hours a day. Funny thing is, with 2 hours a day I’m in the “bottom third” of the app users :/

Eff-1 03-13-2019 09:22 AM

Thanks guys for the input. So right now i'm paying $70 for 10GB. I guess I may as well reply with YES and i'll get 15GB for the same price.

My monthly usage ranges from 4GB - 6GB.

I only use mine cell phone for messaging apps/what's app/wechat, check the weather/music and alarm clock. Don't even use IG or youtube etc.

No effing way you come even remotely close to 2-3 GB/mth for that ... your brain will be fine. Keep it up.

Yea, I haven’t gone over since I deleted it.

They obviously aren’t quick to stop pushing photos and videos at the highest quality and continually pre-loading videos you preview etc

Same as you, i might watch one or two videos a day if FB has one posted interestingly enough to get me to click.
i don't even go over 1 GB ever... which is why I'm using Freedom Mobile...

nabs 03-14-2019 09:27 AM

I have 10 gigs, I watch Netflix on my way to and from work over an hour each day. Maybe two or 3 times a month I stream a basketball game. Spotify every time i'm in the car, sometimes the wife YouTube songs, All on data, i know i can download on Netflix however i don't just to try to use up more data.

I hardly hit 6 gigs on the month. However there have been a couple months I hit 9.5ish gigs (baseball season)

It is nice having the cushion though, because I constantly youtube lectures at work, and at times I forget to sign onto the wifi network.

It is nice having a cushion

Gh0stRider 03-14-2019 07:49 PM

I changed from 10GB to 15GB.

I use about 9 to 10 a month.
