Have you tried calling any insurance companies in the states?

my broker (who also handles my home insurance) is unfamiliar with the process and is puzzled how one insurance company can run all of bc

Hmmm can't say I'm an expert since my insurance was handled by my training company through an Avis long term rental.
Hope your broker is able to find better deals that my cursory search for insurance.
From talking to coworkers and looking ahead a bit, here's what I noticed..

1) Minimum 3rd party liability in WA is 25k. Make sure you get as much underinsured/uninsured motorist protection as you can get.
A coworker's Explorer was totalled by someone with just 25k and didn't have underinsured coverage...

2) Maximum 3rd party body injury that Geico would quote for in WA was 100/300k.
A number of coworkers have umbrella policies that are intended take over after the auto insurance liability coverage is exhausted.

3) Despite the max coverage being 10% of what I had in BC (3 mil 3rd party liability w/ ICBC vs 300k US),
rates seem to be higher higher than what I paid with an N license in BC despite having 5 years of experience now (1 speed ticket <20mph)

> 2020 Corolla Hatch = 387/month
> 2018 430 Gran Coupe = 594/month
> 2006 LS430 = 229/month

4) A lot of the returning interns are considering doing Care by Volvo for their full time car.
700 with insurance included is really not bad after getting some of those quotes above.
