That's only really the case if the state is accountable to its citizens, and by that I mean it runs the risk of not getting re-elected. In the CCP's case, they don't have to worry about an election and don't seem to have to worry about a population showing any signs of staging an uprising.

They have a political agenda... and that is to separate the society into 2 and hopefully they can FORCE the majority to accept their ideology and progress with things they really want to do. What they want no longer has anything to do with black lives or racism. If that's the case, they wouldn't harras people who are suggesting ALM... it's the same principal, just covering more ground.

I'm all in for progressing the society to a better place, eradicating racism and any other form of discrimination. However, as a society, we need to learn how to do all this, including making a statement, in a civilized manner respecting our laws.

Condoning all the looting, havoc wrecking in the society in the name of "equality" only leads to a place where only ONE voice is allowed to happen. That is not what we want as a society. We embrace the differences and try to work out a common ground where even though we can't accommodate the opinion of everyone, at least everyone can accept that middle ground.

What's happening in HK, all are done in the name of the greater good of China (if you believe the CCP argument). But is it sacrificing or eradicating the ideology of some in the society a price worth paying for the "greater good"?

IDK but I treat the show is more like South park when they made fun of Trump or China(Band of China anyone?, and they way how they paint Trump on the show or even show how stupid hillary clinton is?) like Family guy or even Simpons to a degree.

Is more for a laugh and show how stupid the gov or how certain person act. Nothing more.

China can fuck off, they're drunk at this point.

China says: "Don't you dare recognize HK as separate!!!" Canada proceeds to lump HK in with China from a policy perspective and China says "How dare you not recognize HK as separate!!!"

Also, saying on social media Canada is a dangerous place to go when the person you're retaliating over chose to live here and maintain 2 luxury homes here... yah... okay

They did the same thing with the 1984 handover declaration, calling it nothing more than a "historical document" when Britain complained. But now that Britain is offering HK British nationals a way to get residency, China calls them out for breaking the 1984 handover declaration.

They seem to be getting more and more beligerent, fragile, insecure, scared, and shunning the rest of the world. I mean "everybody knows that" already, but it's increasing at an alarming rate.

Of course people will argue that because there is a lot of money in the stock market, everything will be totally fine for a long time. I'm sure people have said that many many times in history.

TikTok doing everyone a favor and pulling out of Hong Kong. Nobody trusted them, so they only had like 100K downloads

They expect people to use the China version instead

Also USA is looking at banning them too, along with other Chinese spy apps

Also American social media companies are being flooded with user data requests, and aren't complying.

This may lead to the banning of Facebook, Twitter, etc, or even a withdrawal

The new rules explicitly give the authorities the ability to jail employees at internet companies if the firms do not comply with requests for user data. Because the new rules apply across the world, they open up the prospect of tech companies having to choose between releasing data on people writing from places like the United States or face a six-month jail sentence for an employee.

Lol good luck with Google complying. Google basically refuse to censor their search and comply with China policy and decided to exit the Chinese market. FB have been trying for years to get into the Chinese market but failed also if FB did decide to comply with China censorship and hand over their data to China they are done. They are already in a lot of trouble now with major company leaving them and no longer putting their ads on FB. Apple not sure since the reply heavily on the Chinese market now.

Remember what I said earlier that soon people in HK will need to use a firewall in order to access/use the internet like they do today? And you as soon as it doesn't affect your day to day life you are still ok with living in HK. Guess soon this will affect you. Maybe in a year phones sold in HK won't have access to the google store instead it will be the same ones in CHINA and Apple will self censor their app store and use Chinese search engine instead.

I'm hoping people aren't forgetting all those companies that chose to bow down to China to try and get market share over there. It'd be interesting to see that actually backfire on them if China keeps isolating at this rate.

Ford moved all their new mk4 focus to being built in China, trump was mad AF. I wonder what they’re gonna do now

SkinnyPupp 07-08-2020 01:00 AM

Doubt there's much traction to this, but they are definitely at least talking about the nuclear option...

why won't strata just decommission trash chutes and make people walk downstairs to toss their trash?

Some people are ill-informed on how to throw stuff away. You'll get the weirdest of things being thrown down the trash chute. Some clown tried to throw his revolving fan down the chute, only to realize he could bring it downstairs to the over-sized garbage room and the city will come pick it up every Tuesday.

Having said that, I do enjoy the convenience of a garbage chute. But it works best when everyone knows how to use it properly. Consistent education and reminders are key to it being successful (or sometimes its failures haha)

mikemhg 07-08-2020 10:30 AM

As well, having a garbage chute stops people from bringing their dripping nasty garbage bags into the elevator and stinking it up.

Additionally, Hong Kong citizens or residents currently in Australia on student or temporary work visas will have their visas extended for five years and offered a pathway to permanent residency.

320icar 07-08-2020 11:16 PM

I kind of wasn’t expecting that from Australia. In recent times they’ve been hating HARD on mainlanders. They’ve [mainlander] been doing to Australia what they’ve done to the GVR and they’re [australians] not taking it anymore.

Glad to see the HK people aren’t being lumped in with chinese

SkinnyPupp 07-10-2020 05:54 AM

Public polls are now illegal

They were the ones helping to run the democratic party primaries this weekend. Not sure how that's going to happen now, especially with the virus outbreak starting up again

Ferra 07-10-2020 06:38 AM

At this rate I don't think it will be long before HK get internet censorship/firewalled like the rest of China.
