News agencies, both foreign and local including @AFP @Reuters @AP @rthk_enews @StandNewsHK were barred from the news press that entails the operation in arresting @JimmyLaiApple. The press was told only those who had obliged to the police before could enter.

StylinRed 08-10-2020 05:24 PM

Agnes Chow was arrested too

It's a political purge happening in real time. It's the only reason the "National" security law was made up.

320icar 08-10-2020 06:47 PM

Yet I hear almost nothing in the news about this

hi-revs 08-10-2020 07:31 PM

What exactly is the government doing with these detained individuals? Honestly...

BTW, for the people who think stock price is the only thing that matters during times like these:

The arrest has made Apple Daily the largest media company in Hong Kong at the moment LUL

No more "Made in Hong Kong"

I'll bail when my life is significantly affected personally. I knew it was going to happen eventually, this is just 27 years earlier...

It's my home man, I can't just bail, even though I have the privilege of being able to do so if I have to.

If I had kids I'd be gone of course

Fair enough, just afraid something that affects your life will be too sudden and restrictive to be able to react to it... China doesn’t play fair. Ever :(

I have a hunch some form of expel foreigners ruling is going to come down soon, then it might not give you enough time to leave on your own accord.

This feels a lot like history repeating itself.

Skinnypup can have my spare room if he needs to GTFO, but only if he provides fitness coaching :p

Yeah, second this... that Canadian passport you might still have means a bit different to you than to the CCP.

Just remember... there's never win-win solution with the CCP, it only means CCP wins twice. They "tolerate" you there because you have no value, and as soon as you become a person of interest, everything changes.

Carrie Lam was about to have her fellowship revoked from Cambridge, but before they could do that, she decided on her own volition to give it up because... reasons?

Razor Ramon HG 09-09-2020 10:26 PM

Someone submits a picture of Carrie Lam to Conan's show as a virtual audience member and he roasts her not knowing who she is.

4 democratic politicians were kicked out of their government positions, because they had supported the protests

all but 1 pro-dem to leave en-masse.

bcrdukes 11-11-2020 09:59 AM

That was a freebie handed over to China on a silver platter. China did not even have to do anything and they all just quit. Ouch.

I was thinking the same. I don't know the workings of HK LegCo but does missing that many members mean that it now cannot make decisions?

Also the prodem candidates can still sweep the next legco elections though they can still be removed. It still sends a strong statement if they sweep the elections even if they are removed afterwards.

LegCo will still be in operation since there will be enough members to ensure a quorum. Essentially, it will now be a rubber stamp council.

I'm going to guess the NPCSC will enact a new legislation to ban all of these pan den members from reentering the election next year with some BS national security reasoning.

Naw these guys weren't allowed to run for reelection anyhow, because China says they can't, not for any other reason
