They will literally have to kill hundreds of thousands of people to make them stop protesting. Or bow to the reasonable demands, some of which are already promised in the constitution, written in law.
Yup protesters are using molotovs and barricades to hold back the advancement of water cannons and tear gas. I saw one water cannon get hit by one bottle
Some MTR exits are totally destroyed. I don't agree with vandalism, but the MTR are collaborating with terrorists and withholding evidence of possible murder, so you kind of see where they're coming from. If they'd just release the footage and stop closing gates to protesters, they'd be left alone.

they don't need to kill any.
they can just let this drag on for years and years.
they'll stop protesting when they get tired, and when the young get old enough and are fed up with the elders rambling about some old ways that the new bloods dont give a fuck about.
they can win through attrition over time measured by years. they already know this.

All they're doing in that case is delaying the inevitable, which is pretty much the only thing a ruling power can do when there's a revolution. History has shown this over and over again.
It's interesting how the police treat someone wielding a meat cleaver and trying to pour kerosine on people (this site shows them lending their shield to protect his identity, but there are other pictures of them having a smiling conversation and shaking hands), compared to how they treat someone who obstructed the police from beating on and/or arresting protesters
That page doesn't even show what I think may have been the potentially worst thing to happen that night
The government and police have continued to push the protesters more towards violence. Some of which is self defense (attacking the mainland thugs, throwing molotovs to block the advance of tear gas attacks) some of which is downright harmful intent (this video)
IMO the government needs to give in to the 4 demands immediately. Give universal suffrage as promised in the constitution, dissolve the current government including the CE, and let people do elections all over again and start from scratch. From there, put together an independent inquiry into how the police are behaving.
It's so simple, but certain people are worried about "losing face". It's hard to imagine someone thinking they have much face left to lose on an international level.

my bad.
actually the pro HK people just have to kill a few of the pro china people.

Strife in the medical field, as 500 doctors/etc issue letter of support for police, while medical staff are protesting in hospital against police brutality

I can't see how releasing people free and drop charges against arrested protesters would ever pan out. If they committed a crime from vandalism / ilegal protester/ attacking the police.... you have to pay your dues if you're caught.
This one I really don't know, if there is ever a free / open / fair election, has there been candidate who's stepping up people of HK people would vote for?

That's why it should depend on the charge. Chucking a molotov at cops or destroying glass at MTR stations are obviously different charges from "unlawful gathering"
Anyone arrested for "unlawful gathering" (ie. protesting peacefully with no other offenses) should be let off without question.
And yes, there are several pro-democracy politicians here with the support of the people. Some have been arrested several times during these protests, including this weekend when he asked the cops why he was charging a couple who were walking by, trying to get home (he was arrested for obstructing police)
You can tell that the train switched tracks after the front of the train had already crossed the split. Either hardware malfunction, or driver error. Either way, doubtfully related to protests.
This does however highlight how poorly the MTR is run compared to just 10 years ago. While this is the first derailment with passengers onboard, there have been more and more derailments and line shutdowns over the last 4-5 years. When I first moved here, delays were practically unheard of. Now it happens a few times a year, sometimes putting passengers at direct risk.
Add to that collusion with terrorist attacks, and you can see their reputation is likely beyond salvage. This is a public/private company, completely broken from the ground up. It should be dissolved and started from scratch, once HK gets a government elected with universal suffrage. Oh BTW do the same thing with HKPF
