NBA and Blizzard triggering China I can kind of understand. They are big in China and well China is afraid of things getting out of hand.

But banning an unpopular cartoon show that 0.00000001% of the population watches and understands? Thats a whole new level of butt hurt lol

One interesting thing I have noticed. NBA is huge in China, since the whole fiasco there is now people openly discussing whether patriotism has to includes boycotting something they love for one small comment. Basketball is huge in China, It is overtaking table tennis as the national sport, I think NBA fiasco is a good wake up call to the whole population how out of hand censorship can get. People are feeling the internal struggle of denouncing something the genuinely love in the name of the party.

Alot of WeChat moments are questioning why they might not be able to watch NBA in the future because someone somewhere said something they pay little attention to.

Ironic isn't it that people only realize how important stuff are when it is under threat of being taken away.

KMT was the LEADING party back then while CCP was the rebels. What kind of leading party starts a Civil war? This is how CCP took over China from KMT.

East Germany's collapse was NOT because of lack of Russia's support. It was BECAUSE of the internal conflicts of strong opposition, particularly from the churches. If you are saying that because Gorbachev, which was seeking a full reform of East Germany (hence opposing sending troops to suppress East German protesters) a lack of support, then I can see where you were going with the "lack" of support.

Ultimately, it was the East Germans who began tearing down the wall and the leader of Christian Democrat, Maizière became the head of East German gov't and decided to unify with West Germany and NATO.

But enough of history lessons as it has nothing to do with it. We were discussing about the cost of transition from authoritarian/socialism to democracy.

Many socialism or authoritarian states transitioned to a full democratic because they had a visionary, Russia had Gobarchev, Taiwan had Ching-kuo Chiang and both had a relatively little conflict for the process. Taiwan went democratic in 1988 after a series of law changes paving the way necessary for a multi-party democratic system. There was no bloodshed, civil war or anything alike. It just flowed accordingly. Civil elections started taking places and the rest is history.

So no, don't come to me with the crap that democratization cause bloodshed. or chaos. It can be done and had been done many times peacefully. The only argument is that CCP is willing to sacrifice the freedom of billions of Chinese citizens for the sake and benefit of its own.

Thus, when discussing this topic, one have to be clear whether they are pro-China or pro-CCP. They are two totally different things. I'm perfectly fine with pro-China... but Pro-CCP absolutely disgusts me because they violate so many human rights all in the sake of what? "Harmony"? Fuck no... it's the only argument CCP has to stay in power and those who are in charge can continue benefit from it.

They are not doing this for the sake of Chinese citizens benefits. China's economy can continue to grow with a democratic system, but the only thing is now they ACTUALLY have to take people's voice into consideration and not doing whatever the fuck they feel like.

What they are doing now for China is not what's people in China wants... it's what CCP wants people in China to have.
I too think the final progression of any advance society is democracy. That should be the end goal of all society.

But I dont think China is ready today. All of the example you provide are country withs fractions of land and people compare to China. (exception being Russia, however post-democratic Former USSR territory is also fraction the size of pre-democratic USSR)

Russia (the modern day Russia not the USSR days) is also rule by iron hands. Ironically it economy overshadows that of its former USSR comrades.

And you are also right in that a successful revolution take a true visionary. This is a key piece of the puzzle is the missing in the Hong Kong revolution. I blame all the senseless vandalized, violence and misguide view of how a negotiation should work on having a mob lead a revolution.

You need a visionary to bring everyone together. Without that visionary, nobody in China will just get up a revolt and gamble everything they have on Mob mentality. One of the common objection when it comes to democracy when you talk to a educated mainlander, even one with the privilege of studying aboard, is the worry that their voice will be drown out by the voice of the poor and uneducated who will literally vote for who ever give them a piece of meat for dinner or even a guarantee of absolutely mobility into the city (controlling the flow of population is one of the key way CCP maintains control). Alot of China is still not educated enough to see past what happening tomorrow.

If anything Hong Kong stand the most chance of producing this visionary person. Yet the revolution is lead by bunch of kids and politician that hides and pass blame.

There is only two way to path of democracy in China, a true visionary (how many year do we have to wait for this to happened within a completely control society?) or the total collapse on the current system to a point where people are willing to gamble for something better.

There is a third option, CCP willingly give up their power in due time. The visionary could come from within the system. Dont hold your breath though, its is unlikely we will see any of these happening within our life time.

Big talk, not sure if your serious but buy the ticket first, since it’s your suggestion. I ain’t going to do shit until I have that ticket in hand. Also make sure that ticket is non refundable in case you try something screwy.

I got family to visit and some shopping to do.

You talk a lot of talk, let's see if you can walk the walk.

I'm willing to go to my lawyer at all of our earliest convenience and set up an escrow fund with more than enough fund to cover for a 1-way business/first class ticket assuming you sign the contract that you are renouncing your CDN citizenship in exchange for it within an acceptable time period.

Lawyer will release the fund as soon as you get the certificate of renunciation and you'd be assured that we can't withdraw our fund in the mean time.

If you can't walk the walk, STFU.

Oh shit tvb comedian actress got fucked up by protesters

https://www.straitstimes.com/lifesty...otesters-in-hk

Supposedly she was out in mong kok, and was either filming protesters, or was just set upon because she was recognized, she's voiced her disagreement to violent protesters online before, and then...

More footage, from the Aussie reporter that helped her

These security guards have been arrested for trying to keep police off their private property, since no warrant was provided, and nobody had reported a crime (the two circumstances that allow police to enter private property)

This is just a process, I doubt the charges will stand

Since Blizzard acted against Hong Kong in favour of fascism, they are claiming Mei as their latest spokesperson. I don't play Overwatch, but I think she's the Chinese hero. The argument being that if she was a real Chinese hero, she would fight for Hong Kong (as I think anyone with morals would). I think part of the motivation is to get her banned in China, or at least try to screw with Blizzard in some way

There's lots of other art out there but this video was pretty good

Lmao that is pretty well done

Disney has given orders that espn not talk about China's political/humanitarian/etc issues, when reporting on the NBA issue

And I was watching CNA (singapore news) and they were reporting on how much companies in China make from having the NBA aired there, and tencent makes like $4bn from NBA streams, so I don't think a ban would last

If this is any indication, they'll want to start airing NBA again

BTW protesters planned to show up at MOSTown mall (in Ma On Shan) in support of the arrested security guards tonight at 7:30pm. The mall found out, and closed at 7:00

Everyone scared of cops now, can't even have a peaceful mall protest anymore

lmao they'd just need to recruit ppl from the US n EU to play in their league, and it'd eventually makeup for the lack of the NBA(doubt the ban will last anyway)

Seems like this protest has gained a shitload of attention this past week, wonder how things will play out now

You can’t get a “certificate of renunciation“ until the Chinese government accepts your immigration. You can’t be nationless. I’d have to remain Canadian until Chinese immigration works out. So go the fuck ahead. Setup your lawyer make sure he does immigration too because I ain’t doing jack shit for jumping through Chinese immigration hoops. Hukuo is next to impossible to obtain so good fucking luck. Big talk from you fucking clowns, I’ll see it when you actually send funds over. And please don’t group fund this because this isn’t a joint venture. You each need to throw in a business ticket since each of you cocky ass motherfuckers say you’re willing to undertake this project. That’s 2 business tickets right now and all the legal fees for Chinese immigration. One ticket from hehe and one from twdm. Anyone else wanna join in ? I got a few more friend who would like to go too.

Go ahead arrange your lawyer. I’m free in December. You’re going to have to pay for my legal representation too since once again this is all your idea. You wanna play fuckers ? Let’s play internet tough guy.

You still have a chance to stop trying to "save face" and back out... Give up man, face it, you do NOT want to live in mainland China, and nobody here blames you.
