They're not stepping in, so much as changing their own internal policies based on things the chinese government are doing.
Mainly they will look at the advantages HK has as an SAR when dealing with the US. Most countries have special laws that allow HK to be treated differently from the rest of PRC. This is why it's such an important region of china in terms of international business - many can't or won't deal with them directly. The new bill will force them to regularly consider if HK can still be treated with special privileges.
Also it fucks over anyone who violates human rights who then try to have ties with the US, in terms of getting a visa or having financial holdings there.
Other countries are doing this as well, including Malaysia who just today said that they will not be allowing HK Police to apply for residency under their "MM2H" scheme (a way for foreigners to get residency in Malaysia as a second home)
Little by little, China are isolating themselves from the rest of the world. I've been saying this for years, but even I am pretty shocked at how rapidly it seems to be ramping up. They're going to be back int he dark ages of the 1960's and 70's soon enough. Eventually, even being able to watch NBA (or even knowing that those letters stand for) or playing Blizzard games will be a distant memory for their people (unless they try to buy some of these companies outright, but most likely they'd just make their own fake versions)

Not to say there shouldn't be foreign interference, just saying it is | It's just funny that they're crying about it, that's all. Crying about a nomination, saying that she should be "cautious" for nominating them. The prize is almost always political, so it's kind of a given that the people will be nominated when fighting against fascism.

HK Police are talking about setting up a new type of official press pass, which will severely limit the amount of press that will be covering the scenes. On one hand I get it, there's a LOT of press out there, and even if they don't always get in the way, they can be an obstruction.
On the other, these minor press people have caught some very important footage of police violence, and it's pretty blatant the real reason behind this. I mean the fact that the cops don't show ID and actively try to obscure the press makes it obvious enough, but now they're really going to try to limit how many eyes are on them, and they will start arresting and/or assaulting most of the press who go out there without these official passes.

Yes its getting released in China too | Because the alternative is this. When Dior used a legitimate map that doesn't include Taiwan as part of China, they cried, and Dior capitulated. Dreamworks just said that China is more important to them than their domestic audience and the rest of the world.

I can understand that, given the suspected amount of ppl claiming to be press (bloggers at best) but as the HK journalists association stated, anyone can be considered press, and cover the protests, there are only stringent rules for covering gov't press conferences etc.
So I wonder if press passes will be passed out to anybody who applies? And the police are just hoping the act of applying will deter... Less formal journalists

Still tho ehh
But the article you just linked, wow it mentions a tonne of brands that have had to capitulate, all regarding territorial representation, not a surprise tho, China must account for 90% of their sales, but damn

Movies like Joker will never be air in China no matter what. The topics are just too sensitive. When I was in China I happen to be channel flipping and caught terminator genisys playing on TV and on man the editing and cut scene was awful. They literally cut every scene that have police being shoot at (IE when T-1000 turn into a cop that whole scene was deleted coz they didn't want anyone to have the idea of shooting the cops). Because of all the scene was being cut the movies made no sense at times.

Yes its getting released in China too | The Philippines has pulled “Abominable” from theaters because the US-Chinese-made movie showed the controversial “nine-dash” line map supporting Beijing’s claims to nearly all of the South China Sea.

Looks like they're backing off
Although I question her definition of "facilitating the press" |

After mere days of protests a sate of emergency has been issued in Santiago, Chile, as student protesters become violent, and destroy subway stations, clash with police, and set fire to buses/stations, due to fare price increases https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-50106743
Somewhat similar to HK with frustration boilingdue to an increasing wealth gap Quote:
The unrest exposes divisions in the country, one of Latin America's wealthiest but also one of its most unequal. There have been growing complaints about the cost of living - especially in Santiago, a city of some six million people - and calls for economic reforms.
...
Speaking on television, President Sebastián Piñera said the aim of the state of emergency was to "ensure public order and the safety of public and private property". The measure allows authorities to restrict people's freedom of movement and their right to assembly.
...
Speaking to Radio Agricultural earlier, President Piñera said: "It's one thing to demonstrate and another to commit the vandalism we have observed. This isn't protest, it's crime."
It was not immediately clear how many people had been detained or injured. Despite the protests, authorities said they would not reverse the fare increase.

The whole world has the same problem, where like 1% of the population holds 99% of the wealth.
As for the topic, tomorrow's march is being denied. They're closing down all the public services in TST (museum, science center, even Kowloon park) at noon. So you know they plan on sending riot cops in there to crack skulls.
Also HKU, the oldest university here, voted overwhelmingly to remove Carrie Lam as a chancellor. Some fascists already spoke out and said they plan on fighting this in court (the statement itself is non binding, just speaks of their intent)
This should give you an idea of how HK people would vote for her, if they could

A dude just got carved open with a large knife by a CCP shitbag. https://www.facebook.com/16482462021...8928/?sfnsn=mo
Just note probably NSFW.
I mean it's as if they want the protestors to kill all those fuckers. I'd suggest any pro-ccp stooges to hide tomorrow because if someone triggers the mob, it's gonna be taxi man part 2. Except this time they'll actually bash their brains out.

a 22yr old stabbed a 19yr old handing out leaflets, his friend who was handing our leaflets with him, said the suspect had walked by him, yelling about protesters ruining HK, then headed towards his friend.
Suspect got in a taxi, and left, but police arrested himafterwards

A long day is about to begin. If the cops would just stay away, people would just do their march peacefully. There have been smaller ones two nights in a row, with no issues, because the cops stayed back.
But here they are with their loudspeakers and signs, closing stations, getting their tear gas and pepper spray and water cannons ready |

Beijing using S Asians to attack protesters and trying to create a divide between the races is certainly backfiring on them. If anything, previously "racist" HKers (I use quotes because they're rarely malicious about it) are finally realizing that they're in the same situation their S Asian brothers and sisters always were. This is making the community tighter than ever. |

Cops rolled through with the dye cannon, and vandalized the mosque when no protesters were in the area (only some press members)
Afterward, protesters came back to help clean up
China has been putting pressure on the S Asian community in the last week, and this is just the latest attempt. Of course it's failing along with everything else they do.

And than there is the reality of economic….
Sadly when it comes to making money, morality is often brushed aside.
Seeing how big companies is responding to topic that is delicate to China. Everybody clearly wants China's money at whatever cause it may be.
The Scariest effect of this whole HK ordeal, might just be HK loosing its special status for international business. HK was necessary portal for China when the west wanted the Chinese money without playing by the Chinese rules. It seems like the tide is changing. Obviously things like banking and the financial sector would still benefit from HK's distinction from China, but there isn't really any special advantage for other sectors, especially for international companies that will clearly bend backwards for China.
Luxury store are looking to pull out of the region as early as first quarter of 2020. International Business with branches in HK is closing shop/moving one by one.
Business as an entity value stability over all else, democracy is not even on the list of their priority. Looks like Singapore is going to be the biggest winner of the whole sega. Hong Kong's authoritative westernize asian brother is suddenly looking even more interesting now for companies that has an interested in Asia.
Perhaps in two years time. There will still be protest on the street on HK, except it will be about lack of employment, quality of living and the abysmal outlook for the region economically.
The city cannot survive on the financial sector alone, once the rest of the money completely dries up. the Financial sector will too. I guess the city can survive on state own business. But will people bow their head and accept that they must be state slaves after protesting against this very thing?
If the protest keeps it, it is just a matter of time when HK completely loses its special statue to the rest of the world. Perhaps not on a policy standpoint, but base on the reality of economics…...

Police are completely out of control. Once again they take a parting shot as they ran off, just like they did with the Indonesian press member. No regard for human life at all, just taking pot shots because... who the fuck knows why. They are completely out of control.
I think disbanding the police force may become a new demand. If they can't do an inquiry they may need to blow the whole thing up.
