Chungking Mansion restaurants all packed to full capacity, with lineups around the street to even get into the area. Beijing's attempt at ripping Hong Kong apart based on race has failed, and has had the opposite effect.

Of course he supports them, I thought everyone knew that. Who is feeding the guys bags of cash that pay the protestors?
Everyone knows this is happening, right? Another acquaintances bro in HK protested, he gave his ID to them in the morn, at the end of the protest day he got his ID back and got paid. Talking to them now there is big money to be made depending on how much they hurt people/property
It's true what he says is right... Yet it's just so frustrating hearing the US start a hubub over hong kong, when Iraq, the gov't they placed into power, is literally slaughtering protesters, 200! Have been killed, and all you hear are murmurs at best out of the US

I am sure everybody is in denial in hk over the amount of financial support coming from both side of the protest.
Denial must be maintain because this is suppose to be a grassroots movement On both side....

I've heard this as well. Didnt think it was true. But now......
US wants China to fail. China ownes over a trillion $ of US T bills, the trade war is still going on. US ultimately wants Gotham city, then they storm in like Britain did in 1840 and take control of HK. I just don’t know how the protestors don’t see this. But then again, nobody imagined trump would be president, then it happened.

I've heard this again and again, but I've never seen a shred of evidence to support this claim. Donations of gear, food, refuge, yes. But never outright cash. And how does one facilitate the paying of tens/hundreds of thousands of people?
But hey, the police brutality I see on livestream every day seems pretty real to me.
I want to say obvious troll, but account from 2003?
First off, this is a conversation. Do not take it personal.
Trying to burn down the city and kill cops is not how you go about improving things. How do you see this is right? The police are simply reacting to violence, they are not the instigators.
I’m just on the outside looking at HK, everyone I know that lives there sides with the police. Day in, day out I hear their frustrations and at first I only saw what they showed me, I then looked into it and came to the same conclusion.
I haven’t been to HK in a few years, we had to vacay there next year. Ever since the acts of terrorism that’s not going to happen, do I blame police or protestors for this?
To be honest though, I'm not even that surprised at the continued escalation by the police and govt. You just need to look at it in the context of their strategy. It seems that Beijing has already given up on trying to reclaim the hearts of the HK people. They seem bent on tearing HK down and then rebuilding it from scratch. In order to do that, they need to have a reason to send the PLA in.
So it's becoming increasingly obvious that they will fan the flames as much as possible, putting out stupid laws and having the police patrol the streets and fire teargas endlessly on civilians to anger the peaceful protestors and radicalize the moderates. The first step is to introduce the idea that the protestors are willing to resort to using bombs in order to achieve their goals - we saw that over the weekend with a "suspected bomb" in the middle of the streets with bomb squad needing to come and disarm it.
As soon as you involve bombs, you can label the protestors as terrorists instead of just rioters. Then they can shut down the city and send the PLA, start building "re-education facilities".
It makes me depressed, because you can foresee all these things while watching, but helpless to do anything about it

Nope, only 1 demand: removal of the bill.
shit still happening; police still beating up people (based on what you see on video, and of course there are some who are peaceful) and then protesters still bashing / burning / vandalizing MTR stations, beating up people who are filming improperly.
A bill /law has been passed to not allow wearing masks.
*i use removed / not allowed very loosely, not sure what the official legal terminologies are.
TL;DR
When protests are happening every weekend, it's desensitized. Core message is lost (on both sides); and nothing is being done.

What do you mean by airline hotels? flights have resumed the past few weeks and a lot of hotels are slashing prices since there is a significant drop in bookings.
The government has so far only met 1 of the 5 demands. TBH I would say 3 of the 4 remaining demands will only happen when pigs fly. But a commission of inquiry into alleged police brutality (which is part of the demand) will help simmer down the violence in HK.
Core message is lost (on both sides); and nothing is being done.
Can you elaborate on what you mean by core message is lost? It seems that the demands are quite clear, 4/5 core demands still left. Protestors will come out and continue to protest until they feel like the government is at least trying to satisfy those demands.
Even the reporters collectively seemed to protest the police brutality against the press today during the police conference after one media outlet decided to cut them off during the press conference.
The police just straight up lies during the conferences despite, again, what everyone can see on livestreams and never admit any wrongdoing. Push the press out of the way, rip off their gas mask (which they are allowed to be wearing if they are in proper high visibility gear + displaying press ID), spraying pepper spray at point blank range at reporters that don't have gear, shining super bright lights at cameras/press during arrests, and just general intimidation.
Are there shithead reporters that don't get out of the way of the police or make it difficult for the police to do their job? Yeah, I see them on livestream and those should and are called out. But there are so many instances of the police losing their cool and are balatantly breaking the law of what is acceptable. And when that does happen, there is zero accountability because the police refuses to display proper police badge ID's. During every single press conference they are grilled about this, but they have the audacity to respond that the police are under a lot of stress therefore they don't want to display their ID/not enforced by the force. Wah wah wah, maybe the police force shouldn't be out there beating and intimidating people all day making the whole population hate you then.
It's not hard to de-escalate the situation. Tell the public that every instance of arrestee will undergo fair trials/rigorous evidence trial. Those arrested based on eye witness accounts of ONLY the police officers should get softer sentences, while still sentencing those who were caught on camera doing physical violence still persecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This will quell the pro-CCP supporters while catering a bit to the general public as the public has zero trust in police. Charge the violent protestors caught on camera as rioters, and the none-evidenced ones as protestors. Set up an independent inquiry in the handling of the police, with half neutral half not neutral council.
Just doing some very basic, trustworthy things will already satisfy a huge portion of the moderate and peaceful protestors. After all, they just want to feel like the government is at least listening to them.
But obviously, we aren't going to see any of that happen. Because that's not the governments tactics. They just want to escalate, escalate, escalate.
If you don't currently watch the livestreams and have a strong opinion about what's happening, I implore you to spend some time on the weekends during night time to watch the livestreams. Some propaganda outlets will tell you that it's only bored/paid young people out there causing havoc, but in reality it really isn't. During the peaceful weekend protests you will see old aunties and uncles begging the riot police to stop escalating the violence and to just let them demonstrate in peace. But in return, the police fired pepper spray, tear gas, and beat some of them with batons in an attempt to disperse the crowd. How can you not get angry when you see those images live, unfiltered and un-edited? You'll also see the police rushing the crowds and purposely picking out the youngest and weakest protestors they can target. Kids as young as 12-14 being surrounded by 15 riot police getting body searched and taken away.
This isn't some "conspiracy" that the western media cook up. This is just the reality of the situation on the ground in HK right now. Who'd thought a couple years ago that things like that could happen in HONG KONG of all places? Riot police also just indiscriminately shoot tear gas in high density residential areas all night long. 100 rounds of tear gas basically wafting up all around your neighborhood coating everything in your house. How would that make you feel if you lived there? And if anything, why would you hate the police and not the protestors? Something to think about.
The thing that boils HKers blood is the countless excuses HKPF are using to justify their action (and they are recycling alot of it at these conferences) . For instance things like
1: Police are under a lot of pressure
2: They are working a lot of OT
3: They are using minimal force
4: The protestors have weapons
