| 718 Boxster Spyder/Cayman GT4
does this mean we should go lowball all the existing posts/ads that underscore the last 6-pot porsche
and apparently not limited this time...less flipping/dealer markup? https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2019...id-engine.html Quote:
Despite the fact that it shares its 4.0-liter displacement with the engine in the 911 GT3, GT3 RS and Speedster, the 718's new six is not the same thing. Rather, it's a bored, stroked and de-turbocharged version of the 3.0-liter flat-six used in the new 911.
In an email to Road & Track, Andreas Preuninger, head of GT cars at Porsche, said the engine also gets a new forged crankshaft and pistons, piezo fuel injectors, and an aluminum intake system. The engine is dry-sumped, too, with an a oil pump that's designed to prevent starvation in high-speed cornering. It makes 414 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque, with a redline set at 8000 rpm, and for now, the only transmission option is a six-speed manual.
You might be wondering why the 718 GT4 and Spyder didn't get a version of the GT3's flat-six. Preuninger says there's a number of reasons.
First, there are packaging issues that come with repurposing an engine designed for a rear-engine car. The GT3's remote oil reservoir would've been particularly problematic. Then there's cost: Porsche wants these cars to serve as an entry point to its Motorsport products, and if they used a GT3 engine, pricing would be pushed way up. And finally, Porsche wanted to keep these cars in the low-400-hp range to make their abilities more exploitable on the street, and Preuninger told us the GT3 engine "does not react very well to reducing the power."

This little bastard is fast turning into my favorite new Porsche. Not sure about that convertible roof though. They said it's lighter but I think it's like that Saturn sky where you gotta go and manually do everything.

I would much prefer a manual drop top as opposed to an electrical motor which is prone to failure.

The Cayman is Meh compare to the Alpine A110 but sadly only automatic https://www.topgear.com/car-news/fir...w-alpine-a110s
I drove few Caymans and the Alpine, i had so much fun on the A110 and ppl take pictures all the time of the A110. The old A110 was my dream car.

I'm curious to see if they really do mean that production numbers won't be as limited as with prior GT cars, or if they'll do a multi-year run.
I suspect/assume this engine will show up in other cars over time as well, given that Porsche considers it "new" and they'll want to spread out the R&D costs, etc.
Really like both the GT4 and Spyder. |

Tempted to trade in my GTS, but stopped cause the luxury tax is going to push the cost way over what I'm comfortable with.
My Porsche rep just said they cancelled all GT4 deposits and going to selectively pick who gets allocation lol.

Has the Canadian pricing been announced? I know the US pricing has been shown, with $97,550 for the Boxster Spyder and $100,450 for the Cayman GT4. Friends in a chat group have mentioned a Cdn $110k figure, but I couldn't find any reference on that, and it seems way too cheap anyway, given the USD pricing.
It would also be interesting to see how the 987 GT4 prices will head once these 718 GT4 become available. All the local Porsche dealerships seem to have quite a few of the old 981 GT4 in stock, and they generally sit in the $110 - $120k range.

No official pricing yet tho. With the increased pricing, I just hope the dealers don't screw over the used car buyers and jack up the used market GT4's to sell over MSRP like the 981's.

Configurator is up: https://www.porsche.com/canada/en/mo...modelrange=718
Scroll to the bottom:
GT4 113,800
Spyder 110,500
That's a good exchange rate for us Canadians!
With some of the desired options the price gets pushed past 124,999 luxury tax range, so the PST changes from 12% luxury to 15% luxury, which really hurts (not including GST).
bomberR17 which rep or dealership? I have deposits at both Victoria and Langley that were placed years ago, but since I haven't purchased a Porsche from either dealer, I'm assuming I'm still on the bottom or will have to wait a long while anyway.

Compared to US pricing at least!
Internet says 113,800 CDN comes to 85,6xx USD.
On rennlist and other forums I recall ppl saying it's around a 17% (I think) increase in base price compared to the 981 GT4 with the 3.8 flat six.
New one still has the long gearing (one of the complaints of the previous GT4).

It's so cheap in Canada, in Europe the GT4 is around 90.000 to 100 k euros after tax ($140.000 to $150.000) plus you have to add CO2 taxes around $10.000 to $15.000.
Don't complain Canada is super cheap for cars and gas ($2.5 per litre)but the insurance is a joke. I used to pay $70 per month in France for a Mégane 3 RS with full coverage and 5 millions euros coverage.

Absolutely love both, and Porsche is doing the lords work building cars like these. I always laugh at these 997 guys saying shit like "oh the last analog Porsche."
Dude your car is 7 years old and an automatic.
Porsche is continuing to build drivers cars for those willing to spec them as such.

I was actually gonna drive it, probably put 5k kms a yr then sell back to dealer but the 25% luxury tax really kill any profits. I heard there's less demands this time around than before but you still always get those guys with too much money.
