| Toyota parts shortage
I read on CBC today about a large parts shortage at Toyota Canada resulting in collision repairs being significantly delayed. Curious if anyone here has run into that problem locally?

Big time. I think it’s over now but ya I had 4 different orders that should have taken 1-2 days max, turned into 2-3 weeks. Really screwed things up

I've heard that from my mechanic, but not specific to Toyota, heard it takes months to get a rad for rx8, weeks to get brake pads for Mitsubishi. Maybe it's with something to do with auto parts ware houses closing down for apartments? |

I work for a dealership and it's a nationwide thing. Something that usually takes 3-5 days is now taking up to 2+ months (and counting). Absolute shit show. It's not just parts being delayed like no fucking tomorrow with no ETA, it's the whole system with dealers for service, sales, etc. It's been getting better in the last month but still nowhere near where they should be.
Also ordered a part for my own car and that took about 2 months as well.

Is this something to do with orange faces tariffs? No one is stocking parts?

I tried to order a windshield wiper blade insert/refill.
No stock for months from 5 dealerships. RIP Toyota.

Toyota is not providing many details as to what the issue is.
My wife's company Toyota Tundra had it's fuel line cut by some meth head while parked overnight. It's been sitting at Nanaimo Toyota for nearly a month waiting for parts. Every week they say it will be next week.
They say the part is on back order but now I think it is related to this same delay.

did their system just completely crash, and they lost all their data? so they'll have to take inventory, and make a new system, all over again?
but youd think they would just order parts from the states, or japan

Plenty of parts for the new Supra are available in stock at your local BMW dealer

Toyota got a new system and couldn't transfer the parts stock over and they don't know their inventory. So no eta on parts, could be next day from the Vancouver warehouse or Toronto. Could be Kentucky which is normally 3 to 5 days but now without proper stock tracking they got no idea.

A couple of loose thoughts: Quote:
Originally Posted by Badhobz | If I was the lady leasing the Rav4, and haven't been able to drive the car even though I still have to make payments on it, I'd totally contact Toyota Canada and ask them to waive / refund the lease payments during the time when the car cannot be repaired and driven due to the parts shortage. Leasing should be done by the financial arm of Toyota Canada, and since the parts shortage is entirely the responsibility of Toyota Canada, I think they need to be held accountable for the inconvenience that they have created.
With the FRS repairs, I am surprised Subaru is not contacted to source the replacement parts. Granted, ICBC may or may not have flexibility to accommodate this -- I suspect they should, since they regularly accept non-OEM parts for repairs anyway.
Another question is -- does ICBC's loss of use coverage have a rental time / cost limit to it?
Lastly, I am surprised nobody has sued Toyota over this yet.

I can provide more insight on what's happening (I don't work directly for Toyota Canada Inc) but I probably shouldn't share what I know publicly so feel free to PM me.

Just spill it. | Nothing but at least if someone else said it, it wouldn't have directly come from me which is what I'm avoiding.

Adding onto this, i'm also surprised at the parts waitlist.
A colleague of mine got the new Rav4 the week they were out here locally. Got hit by a red light runner and just got her car back last week as the bodyshop was waiting for parts.
On the plus side her SUV has no KMs, and she basically had a brand new corolla loaner.

It’s not a parts shortage. They switched inventory systems and it’s an allocation problem.

I've registered just to reply this.
My Highlander's been in the shop since June 10, yes, that's almost and will be 3 months ago.
Was in a high and run, and it needed a single part replaced and some buffing. Easily a few days worth of repair.
The parts manager says it's shipped, and obviously that is not true.
My rental coverage will run out soon.
Hopefully the shop's smart enough to disconnect the battery, else it'll be totally dead by now.
Very disappointed at Toyota.

If the vehicle is drive able why not just pick it up, maybe the shop can install the piece when it comes in?
Usually most people have 500 or 750 loss of use. I would guess that your rental coverage was up along time ago.

Usually most people have 500 or 750 loss of use. I would guess that your rental coverage was up along time ago. | Normally that would be how things are done at the dealer, but perhaps because it's under repair by insurance, that option was never presented to me. I'll need to ask my agent about that.
I'm lucky as my coverage for rental is quite high (plus I was away for couple weeks during this period), so I'm still covered, but not for long.
