Pixel 4 is out!

Pixel 4 is out 900 dollars.

I am hopping last year model will go on sale so I can get one.

roastpuff 10-15-2019 12:02 PM

It's $999 CAD where are you getting 900 from? And that's for a 64GB Pixel 4 (small) model.

You can find Pixel 3 XLs around $700 or less already.

Traum 10-15-2019 12:12 PM

The Pixel 3 / 3 XL have already been on sale a few times before, but its reliability / buggy issues make it seem like it isn't something I'd want to spend my money on. The mid tier Pixel 3a / 3a XL line, however, seems to be sufficiently reliable to be worth considering.

I've come to a point where I have almost no desire to buy something when it first comes out. I'd much rather wait around a bit at first, have the early adopters try it out, get some long term / everyday reviews in first, and then decide whether it is worth spending money on.

Mr.Money 10-15-2019 03:51 PM

also roasting $1000 on a phone while your current phone does 95% what the new one does doesn't seem ideal.

but if you current phone is crapping out i would think other wise.

Mr.HappySilp 10-16-2019 10:26 AM

My s8 is having some battery issue. Reset the phone, power cycle it same thing. Google play service and Cell Signal is having top battery usage. Currently google play service is active for 4h 46 and on background 4d and 18h.
Maybe getting a Pixel 3a is better option.

originalhypa 10-16-2019 01:13 PM

My S9 is getting long in the tooth and I was thinking of replacing it with a Pixel 4.

No more fingerprint scanner seems to be big news with the 4.
I hate facial recognition. My S9 works better than the S8, but it still isn't completely reliable. Maybe this will be different?.....

The new Pixel phones pack dual rear cameras, a 90Hz display, radar-powered face unlock process and a slew of unique features like car crash detection and live video captioning.

The Pixel 4 starts at $799 (£669) for a 64GB version and $899 (£829) for the Pixel 4 XL. Both are available in black, white or orange, which Google calls "Oh So Orange." In the US, you can upgrade either phone to 128GB for $100 more. Preorders are live and the phones ship starting Oct. 24. And for the first time, you can buy the Pixel 4 directly from all major US carriers.

The new Pixels are just a millimeter or so bigger and a tad heavier than last year's Pixel 3 and 3 XL, giving the 4 and 4 XL a more robust feel than previous Google phones. There's Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back, and the phones are rated IP68 for dust and water resistance. Both phones have a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB of RAM and wireless charging. On the bottom you'll find stereo speakers and a USB-C port.

Curiously, the batteries on the Pixel 4 and 4 XL are lower-capacity than the ones on the 3 and 3XL. Android 10 should help maximize the battery's efficiency, but I look forward to seeing how the phones handle in real life, especially with that high-refresh-rate screen.

Samsung Galaxy S11
https://www.techradar.com/news/samsung-galaxy-s11

Samsung has announced new 48MP and 64MP camera sensors , so it's possible Samsung will use one of them for the Galaxy S11

However, Samsung might go even further, as it has also now announced a 108MP sensor, one which has been specifically rumored for inclusion in the Galaxy S11. The source of this rumor adds that the Samsung Galaxy S11 will apparently also have a lens with 5x optical zoom.

On the topic of 'tech Samsung has announced': we know the company has created a 12GB Mobile DRAM, which lets the phone read memory at a quicker rate, so that's an obvious candidate for the Galaxy S11.

Speaking of the chipset, one believed to be the Snapdragon 865 has been benchmarked with scores that beat any other phone. It's likely that US versions of the Galaxy S11 will use this chip, so that's promising.

Wow, that is insanity. It will be the fastest phone on the market.
And Feb 2020 isn't that far away either. I wonder how they're going to deal with the battery and heat that is released with this kind of speed.

Same way how Note 7 deals with it.:spamarama:

pixel4 reviews are not stellar..
however, this is still the best android experience even with all the gimmicks and questionable hardware decisions.

I may skip this year, maybe grab the 3xl instead.. my 2xl kinda starting to suffer from battery not being 100%

Mr.HappySilp 10-25-2019 07:47 AM

^^ whenever a google phone is release all the reviewers and critics always say is the best android experience so no surprise there.

radioman 10-25-2019 09:32 AM

Had mine for less than a day but it seems to be an instant hit.

Coming from an OG pixel non xl this Pixel 4 XL is just better in everyway.

I was getting like 2hrs screen ontime with the OG so I needed to upgrade.

Seeing how it is THE stock Android, of course people looking for simplicity will love it.

Personally just upgraded to a OnePlus 7 Pro and Oxygen OS is also very close to stock Android unlike my old Mate 9. Comes with no bloatware, either(Mate 9 had a ton of those), though I needed to find a good music player and compass app as the phone doesn't come with them.

Neither do Apple devices unless you never update them.

I know that iOS has its advantages, but I am just not a fan of the whole walled garden deal so never considered one.

Bring back Windows Phone!

winson604 10-30-2019 07:47 AM

If you jump on this make sure to wait for Black Friday. Pixel 2 and 3 early adopters all got burned pretty bad as the black Friday sale a mere month or so after release and just after the refund date was so much better. Last year was buy one get 2nd 50% off.

I'm using Pixel 2 and typically I switch phones every 2 years as I start to feel the phone slowly getting shittier but I can say my Pixel 2XL is still feeling really good so I'll likely hold off for 1 more year unless the black friday deal is killer again
