3 day countdown!

underscore 02-04-2020 11:26 AM

I fixed my car 2 nights ago, the first road test was today. We'll be doing the event with fingers crossed lol.

Also if anyone is thinking of entering and needs a codriver, a friend of mine is available and good to do any class but Novice. She beat us at Totem so I can vouch she's a solid codriver lol.

roastpuff 02-08-2020 07:35 AM

I'm having breakfast now. Underscore are you here?

underscore 02-08-2020 11:39 AM

Unfortunately no, my wife has been sick so I'm at home taking care of her and mini me.

roastpuff 02-08-2020 09:45 PM

Oh no! I hope she feels better.

The conditions have been crazy. Super deep and powdery at some places, slushy and slippery in others, and slick and super icy at some. I got stuck twice already, and can't keep up with the others due to how bad it is for my GTI. So far no damage as the snow banks are huge and soft.

Definitely under-tired, under-suspensioned, and not enough ground clearance at points.

underscore 02-08-2020 09:51 PM

She's feeling a lot better today, if today was Friday I would've been golden but alas it wasn't to be.

Looking at the pre-run pictures and the weather reports it looks like a blast out there. Cushy snowbanks are nice to have, being able to rip around with less risk of damage is nice.

roastpuff 02-09-2020 06:29 AM

So... The guys at breakfast were saying this is the hardest rally in terms of conditions that it's been in the past 12-15 years? :o

underscore 02-09-2020 12:09 PM

Looking at the points so far I'd believe it, the current leaders after Saturday have the same number of points as the 5th place team from the whole weekend last year.

roastpuff 02-10-2020 12:44 PM

I survived. :fuckyea: Day 2 was much easier/better, and wasn't as scary as Day 1 which had some real OH SHIT moments.

Some pictures from the rally:

Getting ready for Reg #2 I think

Sticker of (dis)honor due to needing help from sweep.

Lining up for one of the night regularities. It was ridiculous, really deep and we got stuck once more and needed more help from sweep. No one could average CAS I think.

We were completely covered in the back at some point.

Day 2 much nicer. You could see the leftover snow from when we dropped a side into the ditch because we couldn't see the edge of the road in Day 1 due to how deep it was.

Line up to start in front of me.

Survived!

Man that’s so cool. Glad you managed to get out there and have a great time. I’ve had too much personal stuff come up this weekend to make it. Were you comfortable with studless tires? Or would you push for stuffed next year

If I had better studless tires, maybe. Something like Blizzaks or Hakka R2's. The Conti are too focused on dry performance to really do well in this event, as there was a lot of variable conditions ranging from heavy slush to deep (6+ inches) of fresh snow, to chopped up rutted packed snow. Was definitely over-driving the Conti's and they could not keep up with the conditions, loss of traction was also not communicated well with them because the rear end snapped out quite often.

Bumping this back up because some dates have been announced and I'm coming up on 3 years since getting to do an event which has been painful.

Oct 22 there's a fully paved novice event in Mission. Entry is only $20 and it's a great intro to the sport or refresher and a fun way to spend an evening on some nice back roads.

Nov 19-20 will be Totem, I assume it'll be based out of Cache Creek as usual but idk where the overnight will be. I've had this weekend booked off work since like August lol.

Sometime in Feb will be Thunderbird. Again I'm making the assumption it'll be out of Merritt as usual.

https://www.rallybc.ca/ has the full info so far for all of them.

underscore 10-30-2022 08:58 AM

Totem entry is open, are any of you guys coming?

320icar 10-30-2022 09:22 AM

One day. But not for the foreseeable future.

underscore 01-03-2024 01:43 PM

Bump, entry for Thunderbird 2024 (Jan 27-28) is open.

Yepp this still rings true 😂

roastpuff 01-03-2024 02:53 PM

I no longer have a car I am willing to beat up in a rally so nope lol.

BIC_BAWS 01-03-2024 08:39 PM

I have the car.. that I already beat up sending it off cliffs.. but i do not have the skill for rally LOL

roastpuff 01-03-2024 08:42 PM

It's a TSD rally so you're not really going all that fast - the highest speed limit for the actual stage is 60kph. It's just that roughly 800kms of driving on back roads in the snow, with potholes, and other shit, is going to beat up any car.

bcrdukes 01-06-2024 10:33 AM

Willing to sponsor BIC_BAWS to enter with his Civic.

underscore 01-06-2024 10:26 PM

Yeah the driving really isn't anything crazy, it's all on public forestry roads. I have zero driving skill whatsoever and I still do alright.

Entries are really taking off which is cool to see, I think it's already going to be the largest turnout that I can recall. There's 3 novice teams from BCIT all with Echo's which sounds fantastic.

donk. 01-06-2024 11:16 PM

roastpuff 01-07-2024 07:09 AM

If you guys are going to sponsor him, need to have big stickers made up to reflect that fact :D

bcrdukes 01-07-2024 09:45 AM

In! :fuckyea:

P.S. - Has BIC_BAWS since come back to read the thread? :lol
