This is one of the biggest challenges with EV's being sold by the traditional dealer network. Where they make the most profit is from service and EV's simply don't need the same amount of service as ICE vehicles do. Because of this, there is less incentive for dealers to sell EV's when they can sell an ICE car that will potentially give them more revenue in the long run from service.

This is also one of the reasons why Tesla has been so successful. They have no dealer network, all of their stores are owned by Tesla.

i believe it's quite a big factor on why EV are out of reach for the average person...

forget the cost of cells, cost of R&D

you're basically paying for service upfront when you purchase the car because the manufacturer/dealer knows you aint really coming back soon

If anything, it's probably what's holding Tesla back. Tesla's only sold about a million cars. Ford sold more than that just last year if you're just counting the F150. Not having a dealer network is what's killing Genesis and they're changing their game plan.

Most people don't want to make an appointment for a test drive. They want to drop by the dealer at their leisure and see their warez, talk some shit and go for a drive.

You can literally order a Tesla in 5 minutes from there website like I did for the Model Y. For the Mach E I had to make an appointment. Ford doesn't even have pricing on its website.

I thought they were being held back by their lack of manufacturing ability, having cars made in tents in the parking lot, skipping bolts, etc.

I know you can, neither are ways most people want to buy a car.

That's for cars shipped though? Not cars sold/ordered.

Local dealership has already sold 3 out of the 10 they have allocated. One to the dealership owner and 2 to customers who put down $500 deposits. If you put down $500 you get one of the spots. If you put down $3000 you get a first edition. That comes fully loaded with grabber blue paint and blue stitching. Cost of the First edition is $84000 plus taxes will arrive in 6 to 8 months.

Wow, $84k plus tax is pretty steep. just get the regular one and wrap it if you can live without the stitching.

I wonder how long it will take for us to start hearing about the dealerships in the US jacking up the prices on these vehicles if the demand is high on them.

well.... that's a pretty good way to sell the Mach-e

!LittleDragon 07-21-2020 08:59 AM

Gonna need hearing protection if it's going to sound like a dentist drill. That constant high pitch will do some real damage... lol

320icar 07-21-2020 09:48 AM

I would pay so much fucking money if they sold a Mach-e that looked like that.

punkwax 07-21-2020 09:51 AM

Sounds like my electric pressure washer which went up in smoke just like those tires :lol

underscore 07-21-2020 11:50 AM

They must really want to sell a lot of those if they're willing to stomp all over one of their own flagships to advertise it.

Jmac 07-21-2020 03:14 PM

Cool ... change the name ...

My eyes and ears feel violated. Headphone users, you are warned.

But then again, they have to make it loud so people can get our of the way when Karens inevitably plow one of those through a store when she can't speak to a manager.

And yep, you have to feel bad for poor ol' Shelby.

I thought Elon kept down playing by saying they're not gonna release one.

EDIT: reading the website now, it will possibly have a BC rebate, subject to approval.
