Province is going into debt at a rapid pace. We better not be subsidizing $55k new fucking cars for the top earners. It was ridiculous enough pre-COVID.

Your reasoning is exactly why government around the world needs to provide incentives and harsh regulation like outright ban on ICE instead of letting the market decide.
We all feel just 1, 10 or 1000 cars wouldn’t make too much difference in our air pollution. But you know what? It’s start. One less air polluting car on the road means there is one less source for pollution for the next 10 years.
You can bitch about Tesla, but it’s irresponsible and selfish of a citizen to say just because we don’t make much difference, we should stop the movement altogether. EV is not just some hippie thing like gluten free that one does for the sake of doing. EV is about how we should be responsible in our transportation. Little, yes, but it’s worth continuing.
I did my share on converting both cars in our family to EV, just so that me, my kids, and you and many others can have 2 less car worth of pollution. You are fucking welcome.

Well it’s nice those excavators and the 3rd world processing facilities that built your batteries were all run on daisy’s and tulips.
New ICE vehicles are a drop in the bucket in emissions overall. Get off your high horse
The never ending consumerism and travel industry should be subject to the govts emissions controls not punishing people who can’t afford 50/70/100k EV’s
There’s somthing seriously wrong with our system when the “clean” hydro is costing me almost 10 times what my gas bill is.

You are fucking welcome. | Your two EV’s don’t even qualify as a proverbial drop-in-a-bucket in the fight against climate change. Maybe an aerosol particle. Personal vehicles play a far smaller role compared to commercial aircraft and vessels. So unless you’re going to hop between cities via a road trip in your EV’s on the Supercharger network, or cruise ships and aircraft suddenly adopt EV motors or hydrogen power, driving an EV is just little more than a feel-good contribution to climate change. You’re not realistically doing anyone a favour other than yourself.
I’m all for the electrification of vehicles, but to paint them like world-saviour unicorns is a little extreme. We’re at the start of a process that’s not yet at the accessible level in terms of pricing and convenience where a real difference can be made. https://www.thedrive.com/news/28469/...n-europe-study https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...ars-world.html |

Hahaha... hypocrite lefties... for all the talk for a better common future, you guys think that it's a waste to push toward green energy? Last time I checked, green is a lefty agenda.
Let me get this straight... it's ok to spend billions to subsidize gender, racial, ethnic, income inequality... but we can give a flying fuck about pollution?
Yes, keep on driving your big V8s and cry about climate change... and yet don't support a movement toward green because "it's too little".
Yes, I spend my money on EVs, energy-efficient appliances, electronics and minimize my own carbon footprints is all just for me to feel good.
That shows how hypocritical your philosophy really is. You don't fucking care about the rest... you care because of what's good for YOU and you alone. It's never about being responsible to the rest. Because all you can do is too little.

I’m confused? So now you’re a lefty?
“Going green” on a personal level is a luxury most can’t afford. To spend $7000 to switch from a furnace that is 75% efficient to 95% efficient to save $100 a year would be assinine for most.
Your analogy of switching out seemingly working appliances for green “efficient” appliances is also like saying buying a plastic Xmas tree is more environmentally sound than buying a real Xmas tree because you can re-use the plastic one, when in fact the opposite is true.
Over time when EV’s develop batteries that use more sustainable materials and have a price tag that makes sense for your average family then sure, I agree that it’s best for the environment and everyone around. But at this point the entire thing is a luxury that the vast majority of people cannot afford.

I have always promoted one thing and one thing only... be fucking self-responsible so in doing so, you make the society greater because the society doesn't need to take care of you and when possible, contribute back.
For jmac to be saying that we shouldn't fund incentives for "rich" people to get their luxury EV, let me remind you that only cars UP to 55000 with a base model of 45000 qualifies for the rebate.
And what's the point of such $$$? It's called "incentive"... to incentivize people to alter their consumption so we get less pollution emitting vehicles on road.
Sure, people who can pay 55000 for their car might be able to do without that incentive. But the whole idea is to change their selections. What other cars are in this category? Pacifica PHEV, Tesla Model 3 and apparently Y now, Prius PHEV... etc.
In the case of Pacifica, as it's a more clear example, the PHEV is the most expensive trim. Would a family looking for a minivan spent the extra dough to be greener? Sure, they might be able to afford it without incentives, but it's there so people change their mind. Instead of going a pure ICE trim, spend the extra money and go for PHEV.
Yes, the reduction might be small. But the idea is that we get a few thousands of normal emission cars OUT of the road and put low/non-emission ones in place every year. That in 10 years would make up tens of thousands of vehicles. And when people change their vehicle, they are more likely to stay green (as survey has shown only about 1% of people who gone EV is willing to go back to ICE), but when those vehicles get resold, they stay green and influence more people.
It's almost infuriating to hear that the few things that our gov't is actually doing right get talked down because they make little difference?
So, it's better for these "riches" to go buy a 6.3ltr V8 powered AMGs instead?
And when I pointed that out... one could just say... ok... let's agree to disagree, which I'd take... since we can't always agree on things and policies. But no... these hypocrites actually try to make sense of how going green is pointless, again, because it's too little.
It's like people donating $2 dollars for charity and get the money thrown back on the face saying "no, $2 won't do shit for the cause".

^You don't understand your own hypocrisy.
As Honda had mentioned, EV's aren't a zero sum game, there are environmental detriments to EV, as there are to ICE.
There is nothing wrong with purchasing an EV, your benefits will be the savings on gas, along with whatever benefit you think you're attributing to the environment. Outside of that, what makes you think you deserve a tax payer paid handout as a result of purchasing such a luxury vehicle on your own accord?
I just find it fascinating that you can convince yourself that such a handout is legitimate (since it suits yourself), but then scoff at anything else in which you feel is a "handout" or "socialist" in nature.
You're a hypocrite, as most people such as yourself are.

The Corvette name is an appealing one to buyers, no matter what it's attached to.
| Because it’s associated with 70 years of performance cars. How long before the name means fuck all because it’s just another mundane brand? It’s selling out one of their best assets for short-term gain. Same with Ford and the Mustang brand. Once it’s a soccer mom car being cross-shopped with minivans and CR-Vs and becomes synonymous with that instead of its performance heritage, it won’t mean shit.
