2021 Rav4 plug in hybrid: 302 hp, 5.8-second 0-60 time

Details of the upcoming PHEV Rav4 came out and it's pretty impressive.

They were claiming it will be the most powerful Rav4 ever, even compared to the old V6 with 269hp, which I own and love. This one might just convince me to upgrade

I think I’ll try and convince my wife to trade in here CRV for one of these. Whatever depreciation hers has, could probably be made up by the day to day fuel savings. Plus the new Rav looks way better lol.

supafamous 11-20-2019 06:27 AM

It's the performance and the fuel economy I was looking for but man, that Rav4 is ugly and the inside is shockingly cheap compared to the CR-V and CX-5.

twitchyzero 11-20-2019 07:33 AM

what's the current govt incentive for PHEV?

this will be pushing 50K without

i love the exterior minus the cheese grate but at least it's black now and less noticable

the base felt very cheap but the softex trims were fine, i still think the centre stack looks like it's from 2007

might buy this for my parents...it's as quick (slow) as my miata haha

AstulzerRZD 11-20-2019 07:36 AM

Apparently this is faster than the claimed 0-60 for the Camry TRD, faster than the 86, and quicker than a base model Macan.

Gotta watch out for these things when looking to steal the right lane on Oak/Cambie/Granville.

JDMDreams 11-20-2019 07:54 AM

Hmm I wonder how much it will be, I was just watching a review on the hybrid last night but I didn't like the fact that it can't run on full electric.

yray 11-20-2019 08:51 AM

Mustang guys gotta drive something bigger with the kids in tow :troll:

vitaminG 11-20-2019 10:55 AM

They can't even keep the RAV4 hybrids in stock. These will be impossible to get.

As for eco credentials, the RAV4 Prime can go an estimated 39 miles on its battery alone, which is better than any current plug-in hybrid.
I'm guessing if you are light on the throttle it will only use the battery.

This is so true, the waiting time for certain trim is like 6 months. Such a joke for Toyota.

IIRC, from a stop up to 30 kmh, it relies on the electric motor, after that the gas motor kicks in.
Not sure how the new Rav4 will work, but I could be interested in one for the wife. I hate the interior of her 2010 Rav4. :heckno:

The 0-60 times of modern cars makes me shake my head at the street racing crackdowns of 20 years ago when cops thought 10 second Corollas with a spoiler were a menace.

Whenever I dust off the MR2 Turbo and go for a spin, I just cruise and enjoy the open air. It isn't going to overtake a lot of cars today.

With this news, people are going to jettison their preorders and wait for the plug-in. It's going to create a huge mess for when it comes out, but at the same time ditched preorders are going to sit on lots.

I'm glad I got mine before demand spiked, but now it's going to be a race to get the plug in first.

Hakkaboy 11-20-2019 04:31 PM

i know pricing haven't been released yet, but are these expected to be significantly more expensive than the normal Rav4 hybrid of similar trim?

Prius Prime seems to be about 4-5k higher than the equivalent Prius trim. I'd assume a similar / slightly larger gap (given the more powerful motor).

dvst8 11-20-2019 05:02 PM

Just when I am about to pull the trigger on a model 3.....gah...decisions....

JDMDreams 11-20-2019 05:47 PM

Well Tesla did Jack up their base price to $57000

It's still showing as 55.9k after freight and PDI for the lowest model online. This puts the 'base' model <55k so you can get the 3k BC rebate. IIRC you can still order a cheaper model in store with shorter range too. Maybe the website isnt updated?

twitchyzero 11-20-2019 08:01 PM

was hoping to hold out for the toyobaru EV...wishing they drop a production version in 6-9 months but something tells me it's gonna start at 50k

probably ordering this if it's miraculously built in Japan

Sonic Red :megusta: cost of 435/55/19 tires :okay:

dark0821 11-20-2019 09:27 PM

shit... that is legit fast... like faster than a Civic Si fast... 5.8 is super impressive lol

I mirror the sentiment abt modern cars being fast....all the cars I actually want to own now that I can really enjoy without financial "difficulties" are all slower than a Camry =) But that's what makes them fun I guess...

It might be an age thing... I start to feel like I no longer care abt the 0 to 60, or 0 to 124, now driving 7~8/10 on a back road = win win win

!LittleDragon 11-20-2019 10:33 PM

Yeah, age does that. Every car I bought since the MR2 has been bigger, heavier and faster. I bought a new 2011 Sonata 2.0T as a daily driver so that I can rebuild the MR2 but never ended doing it... lol... it's just been sitting in the garage. For a daily driver, it's more comfortable, it's quieter and just as quick. My current Genesis 5.0 will do 0-60 in 5.1 but I just drive it like an old fart and enjoy the noises it makes. Might boot it on a highway onramp to merge but that's about it. All that power is for effortless driving from a stop.

GS8 11-20-2019 10:49 PM

MY CAR'S FASTER THAN YOURS!

...to the next red light. See you there

:okay:

Oh man didn't even consider that, this is gonna sell gangbusters for Toyota.

sonick 06-05-2020 10:45 AM

My dealer just got color info in and made my selection:

Anybody else get in on a pre-order on the Rav4 Prime?

trollface 06-05-2020 10:57 AM

How does everyone have so much money laying around to preorder 50k cars without ever seeing it? lol
