2021 Rav4 plug in hybrid: 302 hp, 5.8-second 0-60 time
Details of the upcoming PHEV Rav4 came out and it's pretty impressive.
They were claiming it will be the most powerful Rav4 ever, even compared to the old V6 with 269hp, which I own and love. This one might just convince me to upgrade
besides the base $44,990 SE, there will be a $51,590 XSE version of the Prime, which adds bigger tires, a power moonroof, a power rear door, a digital rearview mirror and wireless charging into the mix. A the top of the food chain is XSE with an optional Technology Package, which throws in a larger “panoramic” sunroof, 11-speaker JBL audio system, all-door Smart Key system, ventilated front seats and a 1,5000-watt 110-volt electric outlet and more for $56,990.
All should qualify for the $5000 federal and $1,500 BC subsidy.
The SE flaunts its sporty attitude with 18-in. painted and machined alloy wheels and an exclusive front grille design with a front lower spoiler. Piano black exterior accents and a painted grille/diffuser complete the premium look. The SE’s equipment is quite comprehensive, with standard:
Heated front seats
8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar adjustment
7-in. Multi-Information Display
Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
Leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob with red stitching
Power Back Door
Audio with 8-in. touchscreen and Amazon Alexa integration, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility
3 kW on-board charger
The available Weather & Moonroof Package (+$1,665 upgrade) is chock-full with upgrades like a heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats and rain-sensing windshield wipers with de-icer function, for added convenience.
XSE Grade
As on the current RAV4 Hybrid XSE, the Prime version (starting MSRP of $41,425) of this grade stands apart with an available two-tone exterior paint scheme pairing a black roof with select colors, including the striking new-to-RAV4 Supersonic Red. Other standard features include:
Exclusive 19-in. two-tone alloy wheels, the largest ever offered on a hybrid RAV4
Vertical LED accent lights
Paddle shifters
Moonroof
SofTex®-trimmed seat surfaces
Qi-wireless phone charger
Ambient interior lighting
Auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink universal transceiver
Audio Plus with 9-in. touchscreen
The standard Audio Plus system comes with a 9-in. touch-screen, the largest ever offered on a RAV4. There is also an available Premium Audio multimedia system that includes Dynamic Navigation (3-year trial included) and JBL speaker system.
Available options for the XSE grade include
Weather Package (+$815)
Heated Steering Wheel
Heated Rear Outboard Seats
Rain Sensing Wipers w/Wiper De-Icer
Weather and Audio Package (+$2,435)
Weather package plus:
JBL Premium Audio
Dynamic Navigation with 3 year trial
Destination Assist with 1 year trial
Weather with Audio and Premium Package (+$5,760)
Weather and Audio package plus:
AC (6.6kW) Enhanced Charger
Digital Rearview Mirror
120V/1500W AC power outlet in cargo area
Panoramic Moonroof
Kick-Type Power Back Door
SofTex®-trimmed seats with sporty red accents and stitching
Bird’s Eye View Camera
4-way power adjustable front passenger seat with seatback pocket
Smart Key System on all doors
Perforated Heated & Ventilated Front Seats
Parking Assist with Automatic Braking
Adaptive Front Headlight System
Head-Up Display
Safety
All Toyota RAV4 models come equipped with standard Toyota Safety Sense (TSS 2.0), which groups a long roster of active-safety technologies and capabilities:
Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD)
Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)
Automatic High Beam (AHB)
Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)
Road Sign Assist (RSA)
The XSE Premium Package adds Rear Cross Traffic Braking (RCTB) and Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automated Braking (PA w/AB).

I think I’ll try and convince my wife to trade in here CRV for one of these. Whatever depreciation hers has, could probably be made up by the day to day fuel savings. Plus the new Rav looks way better lol.
It's the performance and the fuel economy I was looking for but man, that Rav4 is ugly and the inside is shockingly cheap compared to the CR-V and CX-5.
Mustang guys gotta drive something bigger with the kids in tow

I'm guessing if you are light on the throttle it will only use the battery.
IIRC, from a stop up to 30 kmh, it relies on the electric motor, after that the gas motor kicks in.
Not sure how the new Rav4 will work, but I could be interested in one for the wife. I hate the interior of her 2010 Rav4.

The 0-60 times of modern cars makes me shake my head at the street racing crackdowns of 20 years ago when cops thought 10 second Corollas with a spoiler were a menace.
Whenever I dust off the MR2 Turbo and go for a spin, I just cruise and enjoy the open air. It isn't going to overtake a lot of cars today.

This is so true, the waiting time for certain trim is like 6 months. Such a joke for Toyota.
With this news, people are going to jettison their preorders and wait for the plug-in. It's going to create a huge mess for when it comes out, but at the same time ditched preorders are going to sit on lots.
I'm glad I got mine before demand spiked, but now it's going to be a race to get the plug in first.
It's still showing as 55.9k after freight and PDI for the lowest model online. This puts the 'base' model <55k so you can get the 3k BC rebate. IIRC you can still order a cheaper model in store with shorter range too. Maybe the website isnt updated?
shit... that is legit fast... like faster than a Civic Si fast... 5.8 is super impressive lol
I mirror the sentiment abt modern cars being fast....all the cars I actually want to own now that I can really enjoy without financial "difficulties" are all slower than a Camry =) But that's what makes them fun I guess...
It might be an age thing... I start to feel like I no longer care abt the 0 to 60, or 0 to 124, now driving 7~8/10 on a back road = win win win

Yeah, age does that. Every car I bought since the MR2 has been bigger, heavier and faster. I bought a new 2011 Sonata 2.0T as a daily driver so that I can rebuild the MR2 but never ended doing it... lol... it's just been sitting in the garage. For a daily driver, it's more comfortable, it's quieter and just as quick. My current Genesis 5.0 will do 0-60 in 5.1 but I just drive it like an old fart and enjoy the noises it makes. Might boot it on a highway onramp to merge but that's about it. All that power is for effortless driving from a stop.

They can't even keep the RAV4 hybrids in stock. These will be impossible to get.
Oh man didn't even consider that, this is gonna sell gangbusters for Toyota.

Anybody else get in on a pre-order on the Rav4 Prime?
