Ordering Chinese phones off aliexpress?

Hey guys,

Im getting tired of the $1200+ flagship phones, and have been looking into buying a chinese brand phone. Is there any brands I should steer clear of, or might not work on most canadian bands?

Oppo Reno Ace
Realme x2 pro
Xiaomi Mi 9T pro
etc

I've had experience with Xiaomi's(bought a few over the years), just make sure its the global version. Bang for buck.

Got a Xiaomi note 5 that I used when I go back to China. Is been pretty solid so far. Other than the So So camera and the phone is just too big for my pocket I really have no complains.

Used a 1+1 before give it to my dad and he still uses it. Still pretty good. I used a 1+3 before and I find the battery life not great.

Check and see what 4G/LTE bands the phone will work on and compare that with your carrier to see which bands they offer.

I've bought a few phones but they are for wifi only but my next phone will be from Aliexpress. I don't want to pay $1000+ for another cell phone.

OnePlus is having a sale for OnePlus 7 Pro for $700ish which is still a good price if you want the warranty.

Order the razor phone 2 from Amazon for $399. Drop my S8 and the screen crack. Is way too expensive to replace the screen (stupid curve screen).

you dont have to drop 1k to get a nice phone, but i've learned my lesson with cheap budget phones... camera that can't focus, slight lag even from day one, and bad reception made me go out and buy a good quality phone.

I got the oneplus 7 pro and a spigen case... Now the waiting game to get it

Take back what I said, tested the razor phone 2 the camear is just really really really bad. Is wore then 1+3. It lags and sometimes after you zoom in the picture becomes super dark and when you try to zoom back out sometimes it won't let you zoom all the way out, other times it will just lag and the lighting is way off. Going to refund it. Got on the waiting list for the Pixel 3a $399.

I gave up on buying smart phones and decided to go with a Punkt MP02. Great reception and voice quality. No camera and social media. It's great. :D

I got the gf a Xiaomi Mi 9T when I was in HK.

Bought it at the Xiaomi store. It works here.

Do you guys root your phone after receiving it? I just got a OPPO Reno and even after selecting English the search function is in Chinese.

I thought about that phone as my next phone. Good to hear that it works here.

lilaznviper 12-19-2019 05:01 PM

all xiaomi phones i've bought works here except for being on freedom mobile.

asian_XL 12-19-2019 07:25 PM

I would pick oneplus rather than xiaomi.

preferred to have better support than price. Xiaomi support isn't bad, just that you have to look for global or stable rom is not everybody wants

If you are into photography with your phone... BE VERY CAREFUL which Chinese phone you pick.

They've got this "AI" bullshit (more like filter) going on and "beautifies" everything. It's great when you don't care. But if you simply want the pure capture, they will turn you crazy as that crap is buried deep down in the hardware level on how the information from the sensor is processed.

I thinking about replace my iPhone 6 with either Smartisan or vivo, as I have not try those 2 brands yet

I had bad experience with xiaomi, Meizu, huawei, zte and oppo, but those were cheap phones in past

Current Chinese phones are much better now

I love my OP7. I opted for the regular 7 vs the pro. Got mine off aliexpress in the summer for $580CAD. This is the 2nd OP phone that I've owned.
