If everyone wears a mask, you have a much lower chance of a random sneeze, or peoples sickly breath being spread around.
Wear yo masks!

From my observations a good 80+% of customers today are masked and gloved. At least richmond seems to be taking it seriously. My employer has finally said it’s okay for us to wear masks. About goddamn time

Wear yo masks! | Check out the study I posted on the previous page. Masks are looking to be more effective than even I thought. Until now, I assumed they were effective only when the absolute majority used them.

Glad I bought N95 masks at Hardware Sales in Bellingham over a month ago. Nobody down there was aware of its potential "weight in gold" at the time. I didn't think it was needed, but decided to get two boxes anyway. I then went and got these from Lee Valley Tools, along with replacement filters. Rated P100. Better than N95, but better overkill than not. https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop...ust-respirator
If I didn't need them, I could always use them for gardening (allergies) and airbrushing.
On a side note, scientists have been testing the virus on monkeys and it looks like the ones that recovered from it has built up immunity to it - no reinfection. A positive step. It's just a matter of time. Hopefully not too late.
This is assuming the virus doesn't mutate/evolve into something else.

If anyone doesn't mind to be a bit overkill, I know that Princess Auto still have P100 respirators in stock.
I just got one yesterday because I'm running out of chores to do and decided to deal with some rusty metal decors that I have, sand the rust off and paint. That's the activity for this week.
They are reusable, filters 99.97% of particles and oil proof. IOW, way overkill and you look like you are attending some apocalypse cosplay.

That is terrifying.
If everyone here acts as though they are already infected (ie wear a mask, gloves, distance themselves, stay at home as much as possible) it will save lives. Let's learn from other country's mistakes before more of us and our healthcare workers die. The sooner we all buy into this, the sooner this will slow down, the sooner our lives can go back to normal. We all have the duty to do so and to remind those around us to do the same.
Some other thoughts, huge shout out to the pregnant women who are still going to work in our hospitals. I cannot fathom how terrifying it is for them to continue going to work for the greater good at the risk of their lives, their unborn children's lives and their spouses. This is also causing an enormous amount of stress for my colleagues who are already mothers. I commend them for their bravery and sense of duty in our time of need.
We are already well beyond the time to be tip toeing around people's feelings. Your feelings and personal freedoms are NOT more important than public safety and I'm not sorry about that nor do I (or any healthcare worker) need to be. Band together, this is our generation's biggest collective challenge yet.
Please everyone, do as much as you can to help us. We cannot do this without your help and support. Be part of the solution, you CAN make a difference. |

Adrian Dix was asked during the legislature how long these current measures will be in place and he said till at least the end of April so it could be longer than that. With some provinces already shutting down non-essential businesses and services, BC won't be far behind. My current job will freeze at that moment.
---
I'm actually thinking about applying for a temp grocery store job, not for the money but for the front line community work. Seeing as I have 12 years of experience, 4 years as supervisor, I'd like to bring my skills in and help directly and quickly. I haven't done it for over 5 years, but I haven't forgotten either.
I will reach out to some old friends who currently work in the field to get the scoop.

if u guys r still looking for masks (if u r desperate), google canadian dental supplies and call them up, they are out east and ive order from them before (at a lot cheaper price) this covid-19 crisis exploded here. last week i got a calll from a rep named ralph telling me they restocked some masks (its not available online) and see if im looking to purchase more masks. mind u they are price gouging right now, they told me n95 masks are $170/box of 20, and regular lvl2/lvl3 disposable masks are $70/box of 50. they're prob not making it available to purchase online cause they dont want to be shamed for price gouging at double the price.

Risk–benefit ratio. His argument is the lock down will do more damage to people and the country than the virus itself.

Ontario just released their list of essential business. Pretty much everything is still allowed to operate from construction sites to furniture stores.
This doesnt seem like a full shutdown at all.

What's the rush to close every single business? Do you guys know what a full shutdown would do to our economy? We wouldn't be talking recession, we would be talking depression so if you're OK with losing your job permanently, losing your house, savings go for it.
Let's chill out, calm down and be rational about this pandemic. The numbers don't justify a complete shutdown and this was backed by our federal health minister. If people use common sense, stay at home if their sick, anyone they associated with stays at home we can get back to normal soon than later.

Right now the main key is to cancel non essential gatherings. That's why they are closing bars, restaurants are turning into takeout only, construction continues, etc.
With the right amount of care, people can continue to work at these places. Maybe people will eventually get C19, but what matters most is that it doesn't all happen at once.
that's why the message has been "stay home" or "don't go out". It's not hard to just not have a social life for a while (I've been doing it all my life) and little by little, other aspects may get shut down as well.
We can't win the battle vs C19, but we can slow it down as much as possible so we don't have literally piles of sick people under tarps because hospitals are too busy to even look at them.

With a full shut down we may be able to get over this quicker allowing businesses to get back to full operation faster.
