Man i don't know about this Bonnie Henry.
173 have recovered just in bc?
The figures you can see at the bottom of every global news coronavirus story is 112 across the entire country.

Quite the discrepancy.

^yeah the numbers are funny, is it 112 or 173 recovered? anyways the media values are lagging behind the real stats in hospitals

Quote:
March 24 – B.C. reported 145 new cases of COVID-19, but those numbers include the past two days of tests. Sixty-seven people tested positive on Monday, and another 78 tested positive in the past 24 hours. No new deaths were reported. So far, 173 people have fully recovered — or 28 per cent of the province’s total cases

Maybe someone has already answered before but...

How are people returning to Canada from abroad getting home to self isolate for 14 days.....? Do the operators and the families of the operators of these people's mode of transportation have to self isolate too? How is that mode of transportation being sanitized?

Just curious how health care workers are dealing with this when they go home after their shift knowing they could be infected? Especially the ones that go back home to their families or SO, who does their shopping for basic necessities? Is everyone in the household to self-isolate knowing it could spread to other people?

Is keeping your distance in the house or apartment is what is recommended?

I don't know about now, but during SARS anyone who worked regularly with patients did not go home at all. They sequestered themselves in quarantine.

This one is even more contagious, and seems to get worse the more you're exposed to it, so I can only imagine the same thing is happening now. Maybe more strictly.

I hope some people can speak to this with their own experience

So after a reduction to 0% rate, and then the $1.5 trillion the Fed pumped into circulation did nothing to calm the markets, they've decided that printing an infinite amount of currency, by way of an unlimited quantitative easing scheme, might help. Wrong again.
The US financial system is beginning to resemble China's.
These measures are very worrying.

I can answer this one. People are scared to go back to their own homes in fear of infecting their kids or spouses. Some have found creative ways to isolate themselves such as sleeping in the garage, setting up tents, or sleeping in a room alone away from everyone else. Others have resorted to renting hotel rooms if necessary. It's been recommended to us to leave a pair of shoes at work, shower and change as soon as we get home and obviously try not to touch anything before doing so. It hasn't gotten to this point yet, but a lot more people are wearing hospital scrubs now. If things get worse, we'll probably ALL be wearing scrubs which will wreak a bit of havoc on our linen rooms.

in China many health workers many never go home, this is not unlike fighting a war
In the US some health workers have to Airbnb an apt, crash in the spare bedroom, etc

Not really into bringing up every celebrity that gets it, but Prince Charles is a state figurehead so it's kind of a thing (edit: actually he's next in line to be king, so yeah). Dude is 71, not sure how healthy he is.

A simple Google check would show that the Shanghai Stock index is down 11% and the Shenzhen one is down 6% YTD.

I'd say regardless of whether the tinfoil theory is true or not, anyone who has cash right now to purchase stocks will emerge out of this time on top economically and that includes you or me or Warren Buffet.

Watching the video of Sam smith crying from his 12m dollar mansion was probably the best of the “fuck yous” I have seen from celebrities.

Nothing special in particular especially if you are in a condo. It is what it is. As spoon mentioned people are bringing different shoes and change/shower right away. IMO, prefer to leave shoes in the garage cause even if you change shoes at work you still have to trek through the hospital to exit.

I've heard though some healthcare workers working in high risk facilities like Lynn Valley are getting put up in a hotel. Huge respect for the people working there. Having to self isolate yourself in a hotel away from friends/family till who knows when is a huge sacrifice.

holy crap...$2000 a month for 4 months?

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that help is on the way for Canadians in terms of temporary funds during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The prime minister said that the House of Commons passed the emergency bill for Canada’s $82 billion aid package for those affected by COVID-19.

He added that almost one million people applied for employment insurance last week.

“We will be there to help you,” said Trudeau. “Our government is doing everything we can to be there for you.”

The prime minister said that people who are covered include those who lost their jobs, those who are sick, quarantined, or looking after someone who has COVID-19, as well as parents who have to stay home with children, and contract workers or those self-employed.

The Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) announced will allow applicants to receive $2000 a month for the next four months for those who have lost their income during the coronavirus pandemic.

Additionally, the Government of Canada said “workers who are still employed, but are not receiving income because of disruptions to their work situation due to COVID-19, would also qualify for the CERB. This would help businesses keep their employees as they navigate these difficult times, while ensuring they preserve the ability to quickly resume operations as soon as it becomes possible.”

Trudeau said the online portal will be available as soon as possible, and Canadians will get the funds “within 10 days of applying.”

The federal government is looking to get money out “quickly and reliably” and Trudeau said that the system will be up and running by April 6.

“Checks will be flowing after that,” he said.

The CERB would be paid every four weeks and be available from March 15, 2020 until October 3, 2020.

The Canadian prime minister also said there will be more direct support for businesses.

“Help is on the way,” said Trudeau, who said that since Monday, the federal government has already processed 143,000 claims.

For the second day in a row, Trudeau said that Canada is facing its “greatest healthcare crisis in its history.”

He also continued to ask Canadians to stay home, and not go outside unless “you absolutely have to.”

“It’s not hard to do what we’re asking you to do, just stay home,” said the prime minister.

“To come through this, we must all look after each other and do our share.”

Our society so extremely overvalues entertainment.

Like you say, hard not to get angry at the ignorance of someone chilling in their mansion with no money worries telling the general public to stay home.
