Looks like our curve is flattening a bit ? I don’t know if I believe it since so many people aren’t tested and are just staying home riding it out. My friend‘s friend felt sick, called 811 and they told him to stay at home. It’s been 2 weeks and now his wife is sick too and still no testing. young guy too.

https://www.aldergrovestar.com/news/...-for-covid-19/

Why the fuck are they keeping the mall open when most stores are closed ?!?
2 coworkers is like your friend. They got sick since last weekend develop symptoms like CoVID19 called 811 and was told to just stay home and self isolated and no test are needed. I share the same desk as they did. When I called 811 they simply said I should be fine. I would think as least testing them would be a good idea
For the time being I am avoiding going out and not meeting with my family till 14 days have pass.

They aren’t testing everyone with symptoms. Reasonably young, healthy people will be instructed to ride it out. The elderly and those with health conditions are being prioritized.

811 told me to take my son for a test at a primary urgent care centre immediately after his fever lasted 4 days and his cough was so bad it made him vomit. I’d been in Mexico 13 days prior at a global sales conference mingling with people from all over the world (aside from APAC.. and the Italians weren’t allowed off their plane and were sent back home ) so 811 thought we should get tested. I called the PUCC as instructed and they said nope, Mexico isn’t high risk, call your doctor. So I called the doctor and was told the same thing I wrote in my first paragraph.

We’re a family of 5 and 4 of us have had either cold/flu symptoms since we’ve been quarantined the past 11 days. We might have COVID. Maybe we don’t. Seems we may never know.

Canada simply doesn't have the resources to test those that are not in critical areas. I don't think we have enough for that even.
What little we have must be prioritized to the most vulnerable.
For the rest of us, all we can do is practice safe measures.

I don't think comparing case numbers at this point is accurate.
The death rate is the more accurate measure. And Canada's has actually been low.
Given our lack of resources, probably our one saving grace keeping our death rate down is our low population.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you will be ok. I am so far feeling ok. I did have a cold last week and I was so scare to cough in public. Is so hard to pin point who caught the virus and who haven't if you don't test people. Just like China the number of reported case in Canada isn't exactly accurate.

The size of our country and low population bigtime... we're not on top of each other 24/7 like most other places. I honestly don't know how HK survived this having spent time there, I felt enraged after like 3 days that someone is ALWAYS touching you there.

You know i actually thought about this with a little more clarity, and the truth is, it was posted on the government website promptly; nobody said anything about this donation at the time, so it's not really reasonable to complain about it now. If it was irresponsible at the time, someone should have said something about it then.
Not that you're complaining. But i was.

If you feel like looking at numbers compared to other places. I'm sure you don't though because Trudeau bad, Canada bad, BC NDP bad.
Also, LOL at the source of the article for me to come across it, but numbers are numbers.

One thing I hope environmentalists are doing is collecting some real good data. No way you can get such info if it wasn't because of this pandemic - you could get a pretty good idea of how much emissions and pollution air travel, cruises, cars, and manufacturing companies expel. How else are you going to get such dramatic results of before and after?

Coronavirus: Air pollution and CO2 fall rapidly as virus spreads

Not only that, but the majority of countries rely/relied heavily on China for their medical supplies.
So of course, the demand is extremely high atm.

I think the lesson here is not to rely so heavily on a foreign country for these critical supplies and start manufacturing goods domestically. And not just medical equipment.

The US fda has fast tracked a covid test which can now produce results within 5 minutes.
Expected production to be 5 million tests per month.

https://globalnews.ca/news/6745497/c...us-quick-test/

Quote:
Abbott Laboratories said on Friday it won U.S. marketing approval for a diagnostic test for the coronavirus that can deliver results to patients within minutes and be used in physicians offices and urgent care clinics, as well as hospitals.

The United States now has more cases of the coronavirus than any other country, and hospitals have struggled to meet the demand to test thousands of people for the often-deadly virus.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted the approval under its Emergency Use Authorization.

This is definitely important. I'd bet this will set back globalization of the economy well over a decade when all of this is over.
People should have realized a LONG fucking time ago the benefits to keeping their spending in their own communities and countries as much as reasonably possible.

I'm no economist but ... I think government should help individuals with EI, temporary housing to prevent evictions, etc. BUT we shouldn't help businesses with rent, lost business/income, or subsidy. If they go belly up, so be it.

In a free market, companies that can adapt and manufacture things that are needed at this time will survive. Restaurants, gyms, coffee shops that go out of businesses as a result of this will result in lots of retail space for leases when all this settles. Lease rates will have to adjust with higher vacancy, namely go down, entrepeneurs will take advantage of opportunity and start new businesses. In short, those who argue for free market and capitalism can't argue for socialism or communism now. In other words, you can't be a free market capitalist in good economic times and communism/socialism in bad times.

Agree ... disagree?

Canada has never claimed to be a free market capitalist economy. Why would we decide to do it when it would hurt us the most?
That would accomplish the worst possible scenario of big bankrolled companies coming in to take over small businesses at a discounted price.

No? Is Canada socialist or a hybrid?

What about the US ... they are definitely free market and pumping like $2T into market. Isn't that a variation of controlled market? Isn't this what they shit on China for to prop up their economy?

America has always claimed to be a free market economy, but it's always relied on socialism for corporations. It manages to take all the worst aspects of every economic platform. Social support for companies while limiting support for people.
Absolutely it's what they shit on other nations for, but hypocrisy and bullshit from "the most important country in the world" is nothing new.
Canada is definitely a hybrid. I honestly couldn't tell you a country that truly is a fully capitalist economy.
