OTTAWA (NEWS 1130) – Canada is set to buy 500 Canadian-made ventilators in the next couple of weeks as demand rises during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also announced Friday the federal government is allocating $2-billion to buy masks and other personal protective equipment to help frontline workers.
“I know that this pandemic has been incredibly challenging for people right across the country, but we’re also seeing the best of what it means to be Canadian,” he said. “From coast to coast to coast, businesses are retooling to produce face shields, ventilators, hand sanitizers, and other supplies our healthcare professionals need.”

Anyone who wants masks order now before artscow runs out. I ordered 2 boxes of ASTM Level 1 Surgical Masks 3-Ply last night for $245 can shipped last night.
Isn't it $65 + $25 Fedex = $90 X2? How come it was $245?
CDC continues to study the spread and effects of the novel coronavirus across the United States. We now know from recent studies that a significant portion of individuals with coronavirus lack symptoms (“asymptomatic”) and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (“pre-symptomatic”) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms. This means that the virus can spread between people interacting in close proximity—for example, speaking, coughing, or sneezing—even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms. In light of this new evidence, CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.
I wonder if there are "price gouging" rules, if there's a percentage or what to determine what is considered price gouging.
Because these masks, especially the miniso ones, normally would be about $0.05-$0.10 each. Is a 10-20X markup not gouging?
Someone else might be able to charm in, but wouldn't one box of 50 be at least $20 pre-virus?
$40-50 is pretty much the 'norm' in Vancouver now a days.
Price gouging would be fucking Canada Wide Dental.
I ordered from them when it was around $26 very early on in Jan. They had the nerves to call me last week if I wanted more....at freaking $80 bucks.

Not sure about Canada but here and in Japan, a box of 60 regular 3 ply masks were about $40-50 HKD ($5-6 USD) before coronavirus. That's how much I paid for the boxes I ordered right before the outbreak was "taken seriously".
Remember the angry post I made when the public hospital I went to in January doubled the price of their mask vending machine from $1 HKD to $2?
Trump invokes Defense Production Act to stop export of masks
WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday signed an order directing his administration to stop N-95 face masks and other personal protective equipment needed in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic from being exported to other countries.
In a statement, Trump said his order under the Defense Production Act “is another step in our ongoing fight to prevent hoarding, price gouging, and profiteering by preventing the harmful export of critically needed PPE.” (Reporting by Eric Beech; Editing by Mohammad Zargham)

TL;DR 3M says that if they stop shipping to Canada, and they retaliate by not sending pulp, America will end up with LESS MASKS than if they'd just exported the masks.
Trump is counting on Canada not retaliating. Some want to, others don't. If they can get their own manufacturing in order, or work with Taiwan instead, maybe they'll be able to.
This is so insane. How the fuck is Trump the fucking president? After 4 years I still don't get it. At times it was funny, but god damn. I feel so bad for Americans.
The fact that it started in China is not relevant and not what OP is referring to. The fact that the CCP tried to cover it up, including arresting their own citizens who tried to notify people that it was much worse than they were saying, is what's relevant. They continue to lie about the source, statistics, death toll, everything. It's dangerous. They kept the WHO in the dark, who the other countries rely on for solid information. They missed their chance at containment, and tried to "save face" by lying about it.
It's not racist to criticize the CCP. Quite the opposite in fact, because we should be supporting the people of China who are living under tyranny not by choice.
There is no justification for calling it the Chinese virus, though. The way the message has been conveyed and understood can be very harmful for Asian populations, especially when they are perceived by people who already are racist.
If someone wants to called it CCP virus then okay, but when you call it Chinese virus there is a very terrible implication that has already presented its effects. You want to target the government? Then make the message clear.

Yeah, 3M issued that statement earlier in the day when the White House asked them to stop exporting.
My question is whether making the Defence Protection Act official means that 3M will be forced to stop the exportation of all masks.
So just ordered 1 box from them, when I signed up they also gave an email for 25% off the entire site so 1 box was $100 taxes in. Thanks Manic.
I’m not overly concerned in wearing them right now but moreso if somthing comes out where you must wear them.
mannnn I totally missed that part. I kept trying the 35% off that was posted on their website and it didnt work so i gave up lol
The 3 ply art cow ones work out to be about $100 for 100 masks if you don't choose the fedex shipping option. But who knows when it will get here
They claim FedEx would take about 4 days. if you sign up and use the 25% off email code it would be $100 WITH FEDEX and be here quicker.... or even cheaper if you use code and pick free shipping/ $2.50 shipping with tracking
