No body told you “you can’t.”
They are telling you not to because of the potential consequences it can have on a small community.
If people would just be like “oh fuck I shouldn’t do that because of the effect it has on others” instead of “fuck you, you told me not to so I’m doing it” this would go by a lot quicker.

Yeah I supposed you'd say that their culture is that they're poor, and they have to keep going to work while everyone else gets the fuck outta dodge, or have "non essential" jobs that can be done from home.

Exactly this. Especially something like going out to a cabin that isn't strictly necessary, you better be 100% sure you can get there and be there completely independently because every interaction with someone is a risk to them. The off road recovery page I'm on has posts every day from dipshits going out and getting stuck and needing help from strangers to get out. Then there's people going out dirtbiking and snowmobiling, which is fine until they get stuck or hurt and then they're risking tons of people like this:

The great example they had was Tofino.. they said PLEASE don't come.
1) their facilities aren't fit for having ventilators and man, it would be tough for the community to deal with influx of people... i feel for them.

Just like Alice Lake + all these public parks... no one says you can't go to them via walking... they really don't want people to be doing crazy 2 day hikes and stuff. bravo to all the park rangers for doing their part.

Forget about who I hang out with or associate myself with. You work at a firm that gives out a reusable bottle to a new hire - so what? Is your firm the poster child of being progressive? What about the other 3 Million people in the GTA who can barely figure out the difference between paper and plastic, let alone, understand the concept of recycling. Toronto only managed to implement a recycling program within the past few years, and even then it's a flop. Made up. Yeah, sure.

It's sad how there isn't a compost program for commercial and condos. And the recycling one isn't taken that seriously over here. Also plastic water bottles aren't recyclable like cans and glass bottles. I was at Trinity one weekend and this older lady came by to pick up empty bottles/cans for recycling, I handed her a bag with some bottles and cans and she threw the water bottles back at us and said she can't get any money from these. I was shook.

I went to our family cabin last week with my wife (she had a week of vacation and 3 weeks of Emergency operations since this started) . I left once to go to the grocery store. Rest of the time doing spring landscaping. So the Facebook haters can screw off lol. I also had to take the ferry. Your not allowed out of your car (except bathroom) and you tap your CC to get on. So anyone who’s been out and about more then 3 times total this week (I will have been in my car three times including travel to and from and the grocery stop) can screw off. Everyone else..... give it to me. But besides that, I was here before any warnings for the long weekend. Lol.

But on that note, by far the best setup in the local grocery store.

Portable handwashing station outside. Then you grab your sanitized cart. On checkout, they fully wiped down each checkout station (entire belt, checkout stand etc) between each customer. Amazing.

My friends a park ranger, and I would say he's unreasonably scared of contracting covid, and that's me being locked at home, and wearing masks, gloves if I can't avoid going out, and disinfecting the whole mudroom everytime.

He's afraid that his newborn, and wife with preexisting conditions, will contract the virus, so they're on lockdown at home, but because he has to work, he refuses to go home, he's just been staying at some mountaintop station, or in his truck, because hes encountering so many hikers and campers daily, and he says theyve already had a campsite with confirmed covid cases, so he hasn't seen his family in weeks now

People need to start thinking about how their actions affect others, instead of worrying about their own fun

He makes good points but it should be made clear that not all wet markets sell wild animals, or even live animals (aside from seafood). They just need to control the amount of live animals that are being kept together.

Of course since that's not a direct threat to the party, it won't really be done.

Wet markets exist all over the world, not just China. It's part of the regular day life of many people and a multi billion dollar industry. It's not disappearing over night.

Even if they were all shut down, the demand for the animals in question doesn't just magically go away. It'd effectively drive the market underground, making it even worse and more difficult to deal with if an outbreak occurred.

Getting rid of the markets won't solve the problem. Realistically, what's needed is better regulation and control. Ideally, there needs to be better education which would then reduce the demand, but I guess that story doesn't get as many likes/retweets.

Also, bats are eaten in other countries as well. I bet most people didn't even know anything about bats before this pandemic. Had they been travelling and were told it was a delicacy, some people would've probably tried it.

Eating Bats is just a joke, and a meme to represent the overall absurdity and "wrongness" of wildlife trade. Don't take it too literally.

Can't get rid of markets, but you can regulate them. In Hong Kong, live chickens can no longer be in the customer areas, since the bird flu breakout. Slaughtered chickens only. So now, HK markets only carry slaughtered animals, except seafood (and the occasional frog or turtle).

China could just enforce the same thing. They have power over their people like nobody else in the world. It's just a matter of, how much do they care? If they can "pass the blame" for this onto another country, "saving face", don't expect them to do anything about it. Also as discussed before, they will do anything to protect TCM. They want it to be the de facto medical standard in developing nations. Barring wildlife trade goes directly against that.

I don’t agree with everything this guy says (like Germany vs unhealthy US population) but I do think a lot of people should think about this.

Wow. A second honest article from the CBC in as many days? Color me surprised.
Makes you wonder why we need to bother paying Hajdu and Tam. Might as well just refer to the WHO directly.

It has nothing to do with downplaying the virus itself. It has basics on the logic behind flattening the curve, your standard statistics on actual deathes caused by the virus vs others and flaws in the healthcare system as a whole.

The virus is real. The fear of the public is wild. We can’t eradicate the virus until we all get a proper vaccine or we all get the virus. Pretty simple stuff.

I just think people need to rationalize their fears.

Condo life. Mecannica condo in OV. Has ongoing strata complaints about throwing garbage in his neighbors balcony. The reason why he spit on the elevator buttons.
