wasn't there some kind of program offered by the government that put those who couldn't self-isolate into hotels? https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/qua...otel-1.5531717

You guys don’t quite get the whole mask thing do you.
The reason they have not been suggesting it is due to availability. If they say you must wear a mask, every city, district, workplace worker will DEMAND a mask, and will now will be able to safely claim it is not safe to do work. This will essentially bring our economy to a dead stop immediately. Juggling this shit ain’t easily. Saying anything else, and discouraging the wear of face masks is done to calm the chaos. Not promote it. Imagine if the media said we were in a TP shortage!?!?
There are so many repercussions of statements and policies when they made. It’s not that simple.

Had to temporarily delete my facebook account because i couldn't stand the "lol, idiots with facemasks and gloves. Just wash your hands" comments. Its interesting because these are the same people that talk about the mainstream news brainwashing the general public.
Living in the tri-cities (port coq, port moody, coq), you will get some of the dirtiest looks while wearing a mask

I’ll believe it when I see it though so take this with a grain of salt. They’re already providing them for us though
Edit: also please give grocery store staff ample space to work. Even if we limit people into the stores, it doesn’t mean anything if you reach over our shoulders instead of waiting patiently

There are so many repercussions of statements and policies when they made. It’s not that simple. | If this were true, it would be the WORST possible reason to not go ahead with it.
In times where millions of people are out of jobs, industries shutting down, people confined to homes for months... You think "not being able to get a mask easily" is a reason to not recommend masks?
The new travel rule even allows for any kind of cover, which literally anyone could do. Wrap a t-shirt around your mouth, voila, you are compliant.
I've heard this argument against masks from the start; it was wrong then, and it is extra wrong now. Czechia proves that a homemade mask campaign is enough; you don't necessarily need tons of surgical masks to be effective.
I do think if it is to be a fully enforceable law (as in you HAVE To wear a mask to be in public) they need to provide citizens with enough masks to go out. This is why they need to work with Taiwan which is the only country now besides China with the capacity to do something like this. Get to them before other countries do! Japan is already working with them, the availability won't be there forever, and Canada will be stuck having to make their own masks or rely on people making their own (which can work but not ideal).

l | Moving back from Japan 3 weeks ago I can tell you theres never been a lockdown. People were for the most part oblivious to this until Ken Shimura (comedy legend in Japan) died of it, and id say roughly 50% or more still are.
Japan cant enforce a lockdown due to their laws since WW2. And their government is full of dinosaurs who have no idea what they are doing or nor any qualifications.
They are doing the max they can at the moment which is a "strong" please stay home.
That country is fucked for the virus.

people in my community are making washable fabric face masks with a pocket for filters. they're currently being distributed to hospital employees. i believe these will be available for purchase at some point once they've provided enough for us. will keep you posted.
everyone should be wearing a mask in public places now. stop caring about how others view you. it protects you, your loved ones and even the idiots judging you despite what they think.

First in Canada I believe.

Time will tell... If they can somehow keep the country shut down for 18 months instead of 8 months, then they don't need to enforce masks.

I don’t deny that masks are a good thing, I’m still not wearing one but I don’t really leave the house. If we were in crowded areas I’d feel much more comfortable with one for sure. I still think gloves are ridiculous unless you have open wounds. They make you more careful, and washing your hands is a good practice and just as safe.

Even a scarf can reduce the velocity and size of droplets greatly by those who've contracted the virus.
Which would obviously reduce spread greatly if everyone were obliged to wear even just that.
I really don't see a logical argument against making that compulsory given the alternative.

anyways. antibody testing for covid is pointless at the moment. no one knows how long the anti bodies will remain for, and you are able to get covid multiple times

At least that's one theory anyways.
There are a lot of unknowns. But the more tools the better, so I really don't think it's pointless myself.

Yeah I don't think they have any definitive proof of anyone having it a second time. Another situation is a reduction in the virus making it unable to detect then a "flare up" so to speak. I'm not a doctor though, so I'm not sure if thats even possible with the testing. I'm very sure if there were proven second cases in an individual we would know about it (as long as it didn't happen in the US or China)

I'd certainly hope you are required to wear a mask on a fucking airplane lol, hey let's all sit in a tiny tube of recycled air and hope no one's infected! Even with a mask I wouldn't want to be on an airplane right now.
I can see masks being required to go into a store if they want to really take it to the next level. I'll stand by my opinion that I don't think they'll make everyone who steps outside their house required to wear one.

The people who have a brain screwed on properly are probably staying at home or working from home. The venn diagram of people who can't drive and people who are too stupid to stay at home are probably close to a perfect circle.
