OTTAWA -- The House of Commons Health Committee has voted unanimously to issue a formal summons to one of the World Health Organization’s senior advisers to testify about the group’s contested response to COVID-19.
During a virtual meeting on Thursday, committee members from all parties chose to escalate their ask for Canadian epidemiologist Dr. Bruce Aylward to appear by video conference – an invitation extended twice before.
Conservative Health Critic Matt Jeneroux said outside of Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam, Alyward is a key witness to the judgments made internally at the WHO, which informed Canada’s decision-making on COVID-19.
In February, he was appointed to lead the WHO-China Joint Mission on COVID-19 by the WHO’s Director-General.
"We want to ask questions on some of the advice they gave related to: person-to-person transmission – which they originally said couldn’t happen, we now know it does – patrolling the borders; the use of masks; all advice they gave that has changed," said Jeneroux.
House of Commons' committees have the power to summon witnesses if they feel their evidence is prudent to an issue up for study. Their power does not extend outside of Canada, which means Aylward could be issued the summons when he sets foot on Canadian soil.
Summoning a witness isn’t a common procedural practice. More recently, the House of Commons Ethics committee summoned Facebook executives Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg to appear following Cambridge Analytica’s global data breach.
Earlier in the month, Aylward abruptly cancelled his scheduled appearance before the committee which was followed up by another invitation from MPs to appear by video on April 29.
The WHO’s legal team proposed instead sending over written responses to questions posed by MPs.

I don't think it's fair because the people that lost their job due to COVID-19 that has been approved for EI should still qualify but they won't according to the eligibility requirements.

Now that April has passed, we can see some different data.
Death tolls in USA:
Jan-Mar 2020: 5151 Apr 2020: 58,705
May 2020: 3588 (so far)
The official death count will likely go up with postmortem testing being done in some cases.

Not sure if it was already posted but there’s an app for store wait times, it might not be accurate since it relies on crowdsourcing but could be helpful https://howbsy.com/ |

Ottawa (NEWS 1130) — The federal government is pouring millions of dollars into a Vancouver-based bio-research company, which is looking into the treatment and prevention of COVID-19.
$175-million to AbCellera Biologics was announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during his daily update from Ottawa Sunday morning.
He said the company is doing a “very promising” work around COVID-19.
“They’ve identified antibodies that could be used in drugs to treat this virus. This new funding will help them continue their vital work, and will support human [trials].”
Trials will begin as early as July.
In addition to the federal support, the City of Vancouver is “ensuring AbCellera has the infrastructure needed as they accelerate finding a treatment for COVID-19,” Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart says in a release published by AbCellera.
“We couldn’t be more proud to be on the front lines of this global effort thanks to the innovation and leadership of AbCellera,” Stewart add

Well well well. What is done in the dark shall be brought to the light. https://nypost.com/2020/05/02/intell...f-coronavirus/ Quote:
A damning dossier leaked from the “Five Eyes” intelligence alliance claims that China lied to the world about human-to-human transmission of the virus, disappeared whistleblowers and refused to hand over virus samples so the West could make a vaccine.
The bombshell 15-page research document also indicated that some of the five intelligence agencies believe that the virus may have been leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, a claim initially dismissed as a conspiracy theory because Chinese officials insisted the virus came from the local wet markets, according to the Australian Daily Telegraph.
At the same time, a senior intelligence source told Fox News that while most intelligence agencies believe COVID-19 originated in the Wuhan lab, “it was thought to have been released accidentally.”
The report from the intelligence-sharing alliance of the five leading English-speaking countries, the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada called China’s shady handling of the virus “an assault on international transparency.”

who know if the virus came from the lab,how would we even know in the first place if this is a man made thing vs normal virus that mutated naturally how fucking dirty we live.
they were talking about meat factory's and how 85% of pigs have Pneumonia before their killed, yeah these are animals that live and roll in their own shit but other meat factory's are just as bad with no walking space.
that kind of place is a breeding ground for mutated viruses, and look at past history with H1N1 that effected people pretty bad

Given that the Chinese government deliberately destroyed many of the lab samples/evidence immediately after the outbreak, it's hard to say whether the 'smoking gun' will ever be found.
But the mountains of circumstantial evidence certainly indicate that the theory it originated at the lab, man-made or not, is much more likely than it originating at the market. https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/co...1c0e96ad17da60

If people really want to stop dealing with China they need to put their money where their mouth is. The amount of “they took r jabs” folks who would shit their pants at spending the extra money for Canadian made products is definitely a majority.

The sabre rattling, or is there an actual risk of conflict? I honestly don't see it happening.

I think the source of the virus, be it a lab accident or from the wildlife market, is irrelevant. The relevant part is how they handled it in the first few weeks, and then their actions after that.
Plus as I said several times over the last year since the protests in HK started, this was inevitably going to happen anyway. China is distancing themselves from the rest of the world, becoming more and more insular, cultish, and villainous like North Korea. The virus just sped things up like crazy. I was thinking decades, but the virus turned it into months which is INSANE.

Yah I agree, I had figured I had a 10 year-ish window to visit some amazing sights around China that I had wanted to see before they became a hostile territory that wouldn’t be safe to travel to... I think that window is closing in abrupt fashion now.

If you want restaurant staff to rely less on being a tip heavy industry, then you need to support the restaurants that abolished tipping. Instead, those restaurants end up closing shop because they can't sustain paying their staff a fair wage after customers stopped eating there due to the increased cost.
