That’s 1 confirmed positive for every 9458 people in the USA ... in 1 day ...

That would be equivalent to 536 confirmed cases in BC in one day (we had 13 yesterday IIRC).

Fucking wild

Mandatory masks in North Carolina today

NY, NJ, and CT are quarantining travelers from the "most open" states (FL, GA)

Trump is defunding nationwide testing in order to bring the number of reported cases down

He also said he doesn't know what the "19" means in Covid-19 which was discovered in 2019.

I wager north (or south) Carolina won’t give two flying fucks what the commies try to make mandatory. They’ll wear masks when you pry the fully auto shotguns and 50 cal rifles (for protection of course) from their cold dead hands

Dirty politics at its worst. Reducing testing to keep up a slightly better image, all in the hope it helps their poll numbers.

I fear for when the border re-opens between the two countries.

I am completely confused here.

Washington State just saw a huge spike in cases, and they are literally right next door to us.

We've had the same protests, we've opened up our economy, yet we're not seeing increased cases.

How can our counterparts literally KMs away be having such a different outcome? For sure healthcare is a piece of it, but in terms of the city setup, both Vancouver and Seattle are quite similar, one could argue more people use cars in Seattle, and public transit is more utilized in Vancouver here.

I supposed there's much more internal country travel in the US to account for these spikes? Or are we simply testing much less?

For what it’s worth, our good friend who runs a big portion of the interior health where they do the intake for covid testing had an interesting take

She said when it’s a sunny, warm day, or even just good enough to be outside weather, they literally get zero calls about testing

The second it gets rainy or cold the lines light up

It has to be due to a lack of testing here, I don’t see any other way.

This morning on the news they had graphs laying out each province with cases and deaths, Quebec looked like a similar trajectory to Florida etc where as B.C. has been as flat as can possibly be and follows the trend of some of the best countries in the world like New Zealand etc.

Dr.Henry on that no test no cases vibe?

Possibly due to more inter-state travel, but probably due to the fact they didn't have their outbreak under control before they opened up.

It’s simple math. You start with 120 active cases then see exponential growth, or you start with 20000 active cases. If every person with the disease comes who comes in contact with others gives it to two people. Probability of any public contact is a lot lower when your cases are isolated in BC, compared to widespread cases in Washington. Just look at the probabilities of community transmission.
No one needs to put a tinfoil hat on about BCs testing (not directed at you) just look at the starting numbers and it explains everything.

How about BC vs Quebec though?

Just different approaches which led to uncontained outbreaks I guess

On the surface this looks like the people who were going to die from it have already died. Immunocomprimised, the elderly, etc.

All the while testing is increasing and as a result positive cases are going up.

That’s basically what I said on the previous page. How many new cases are critical VS asymptomatic

For sure more testing means more cases, but if you want an accurate picture of what’s going on you need to look at all the data. There’s no way to argue that the lack of cases in BC is due to lack of testing. The deaths tell you what you need to know. Quebec has 35x the Covid cases that bc has. They also have 35x the deaths.

That's what I'm thinking too. The problem is the death data lags behind by 3 weeks. I guess we can look again in 3 weeks (using the same "new cases" chart since that will definitely go down once they stop testing so much)

Went grocery shopping here. Signs saying mask are required inside. Notice people shopping without masks. Employees don't bother saying anything. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Enforcement is relaxing quite a bit here as well. Before you'd walk into a restaurant and 100% you'd have your temperature scanned. There would be barriers on tables, and signs telling you to keep the masks on until your food arrives

Now half the time they don't even bother scanning, it's just random. And when they do, it happens so fast that I doubt they're even waiting for the temp to read

Still, about 95% people are still wearing masks. The first to stop are the foreigners it seems, or old people who are just "over it". I still wear mine, but when I'm outdoors and it's not crowded, I'll just cover my mouth so I can breathe through my nose. I feel like it's not too risky in HK at the moment.

HOLY FUCK. My god, that video made me so hopeless. How are people this fucking stupid in this age of technology and knowledge?

It's amazing how we can't even come to agree about something as trivial as a mask during a pandemic. Unbelievable.

Jesus Christ people are stupid. Like I’m not overly crazy/concerned about wearing a mask but if I go into a private business or even a Costco etc and they are offering me/recommending me to wear a mask, absolutely no problem.

To think people think they have some general right to absolutely refuse to wear one in private businesses based on some stupid rights bullshit Jesus, the US is -fucked-
