I have a massive beard, and have to wear the masks all day at work (company protocol). Fucking brutal, but worth it

Having to wear a mask is exactly why I gave up on my coronavirus beard LOL

Also it made me look more my age, if not older FeelsBadMan

I don't find it too bad. They are hot, but we are all pretty used to being overheated from time to time. Well worth it if it means we can make people feel more comfortable, be a safe place to be, and have some semblance of success when the odds are stacked against it.

IMO masks are like condoms. You get a high level of protection if you wear it (both to and from people). Not using it is pretty fucked up and I'd probably actively avoid the place if I see them without masks.

Discomfort is something people used to just face head on. In many cases, experiencing and dealing with discomfort head on leads to learning and growth.

Not calling you out specifically, but speaking in wide generalizations society today is too coddled and comfortable anyway, avoiding any sort of discomfort, however minor, by any means possible.

twitchyzero 07-15-2020 08:06 AM

fitted n95 8-9 hours indoor is fine for me

mine has a nice thick gasket so it helps with comfort

a bit sweaty sometimes, leaves a nice mark but at least i feel safer and hopefully give others more confidence

underscore 07-15-2020 08:33 AM

I know it's all relative to what you're used to, but I'd imagine anyone who has worked something like roofing or an oilfield job in the summer would love to only have the discomfort level of a mask for PPE.

blkgsr 07-15-2020 12:02 PM

poco costco the other night was definitely less than half the people wear a mask

then you get a kid wearing one while the parent doesn't...right that makes sense

320icar 07-15-2020 12:23 PM

Go to the richmond Costco. 90% mask rate

hi-revs 07-15-2020 12:49 PM

Dont have a n95, but I hate having to wear a mask as it fogs up my glasses!

6793026 07-15-2020 12:54 PM

richmond is doing pretty well; a lot of people wear them.

I find it mind blowing when people say "do you know how crazy HK COVID is"
I blown their mind when I say you STFU and do some research.

8 million in HK 1100 cases 37 new cases
5 Mill in BC 3300 cases with 80 new cases..
why the fuck are you saying HK is scary when you don't even recognize Kelowna (and other places) are worse....

people need to be properly educated

320icar 07-15-2020 01:12 PM

Total HK cases are that low?? Wow very impressive. Geographically that makes no difference; any super dense populated area with low numbers like that is truly impressive

Obsideon 07-15-2020 01:17 PM

I feel that the US are actually trying to achieve 100% infection rate that way they can tell the world they "beat the virus" :derp:

same but i went out to get those anti fog spray for swimming goggles and used them on my glasses. works great

Hondaracer 07-15-2020 01:46 PM

Can you even trust HK numbers.

StylinRed 07-15-2020 02:36 PM

I can't stand a mask when it's muggy out, it's why I barely wore one when I was in HK earlier this year

At Coquitlam Centre about 20% of ppl (being generous) are wearing a mask, some that have em have it sitting under their chin

hud 91gt 07-15-2020 03:17 PM

I was on the island for 3 weeks, I’ve come back and come to realize the tri-cities went from 5% mask wearers to well over 50%. Id say 80%. At least the day time shopping crowd.

You can trust HK numbers. It is highly detailed and they are taking it very seriously (though maybe not seriously enough, since they only restrict dining to after 6pm)

Cases are still going up. There are outbreaks throughout the city, and nobody knows the source.

They released a list of places where confirmed infected people accessed. I was at 2 of them the Saturday before last. Same restaurant... No symptoms, but it's scary knowing that for a fact, I was at the same place on the same day as someone who 100% has the virus :heckno: Also one patient regularly takes the same minibus I do. :heckno:

JDMDreams 07-15-2020 06:38 PM

Just you guys wait, apparently you can now stay in a tent over night in Vancouver parks, free needles and Corona for everyone

SkinnyPupp 07-15-2020 06:38 PM

Australia's flu season has started, and since the same precautions that people take for Covid also apply to influenza, the flu outbreak has been a fraction of what it usually is

spoon.ek9 07-15-2020 06:42 PM

That's some great news! Honestly, the way things are these days I have zero issue wearing a mask during flu season regardless of a pandemic occuring or not.

SkinnyPupp 07-15-2020 07:07 PM

Also updates on vaccines

Hehe 07-15-2020 07:51 PM

Hopefully we get something meaningful out of the vaccines.

Without a viable vaccination, the pandemic has really no end in sight. And its infection/death rate is just too high for one to be comfortable to do normal things like sending kids to school... because all parents know that when you send a kid to school, you just expect kid to come back sick someday because that's school. But when there's a high chance that it would led to the death of kid of his families... I really think I'd rather to keep my kids home.

punkwax 07-15-2020 07:53 PM

My kids aren’t going to school until there’s a proven vaccine.

SkinnyPupp 07-15-2020 07:58 PM

Keep in mind that no vaccine will be 100% effective. What they will do is convince your body to make antigens against covid19. This hopefully will stop you from getting the disease when the virus enters your body. The one talked about in the article combines genetic material from covid19 spike proteins with a chimpanzee common cold virus to deliver it.

The key is, how effective does it need to be to stop the pandemic? How many people need to actually be vaccinated? How often? At what cost? And how soon can this happen?

It will be nothing short of amazing if the vaccine ends up being safe, and enough people are able to get it to stop covid in its tracks, within say 2 years from now.

Until then, get used to wearing masks.

Jmac 07-15-2020 08:10 PM

Considering they can’t even get 1/3 of ‘Murricans to wear masks, distance, or even acknowledge that it’s real or a threat, we’re pretty much fucked.
