Personally, I never said I agreed with anything he was saying. In fact, I pretty much agree with everything you said in the above post. I just don't agree that banning members you believe are wrong, or disagree with, is ultimately helpful.
To be clear, no one ever said masks were dangerous. Local officials were refuting the efficacy of wearing them to stop the spread. They were wrong of course and have since changed their tune. As mentioned before, there were at least two reasons they argued against it:

1. North American bias against mask usage in general (infection control at my hospital pushed back HARD against mask usage initially!)
2. To protect the supply chain for healthcare workers (although they'll never publicly admit this one)

In terms of having meaningful discussion/opposition, you're right; We absolutely need to do this from time to time to get things right. But what we've been seeing is individuals who care more about saving face and "winning" arguments than admitting fault. Debates need to be done in good faith, with honest intentions and seeking of the greater good in order to be of value. Otherwise, you end up with someone like Trump as a world leader.

I think it was clear as day that this individual was grandstanding while using their job title as a means to discredit others even when he was indisputably found to be wrong.

The other thing is when debates turn into "I'm going to argue the other side of things because it'll piss off _____". The trolling discredits yourself as much as it does others because it becomes hard for others to take you seriously. Not to single you out or anything, there's plenty of that going on basically everywhere these days.

61 new cases reported in China, the highest they've reported since April

Hong Kong to enact 3 new rules starting Wednesday:

Dining in at restaurants to be 100% banned, not just after 6pm

Gatherings limited to TWO PEOPLE

Masks must be worn AT ALL TIMES in public places, indoors and now outdoors

So there goes my jogging

get a treadmill with ifit or something, you can simulate going on walks/runs/bike rides thru actual trails

maybe use one of those virtual headsets to really get the feel in

its what I did (got a bike) didn't think of trying a VR headset with it though hmm

I was at Canadian tire in north van on Sunday. Happy to say people of all ages and demographics were masking up. Probably 70-80% of us had masks, and even those that didn’t were cognizant of their distances from others and allowing people to pass them or wait at the end of the aisle to give people space. People here for the most part are being respectful of the situation.

I bike outdoors with a mask, not perfect but its do-able. Tried it running and its definitely very tough to do. Can't imagine doing it in 30+ weather and that HK humidity.

At this rate florida should be empty, strap that mask on tight and dont let it go until you faint otherwise your doing it wrong.
“333 FL Covid Testing labs reported 100% positive tests today in State Report for 3,528 tests,” Cole wrote on Twitter, noting the number accounted for “34% of today’s 10,360 new cases.”

Dr. Bonnie's Covid briefing today:

81 new cases during the past 3 days,
including 15 in an outbreak at a blueberry plant in Abbotsford.

The cases at Fraser Valley Packers were identified last Friday, as per Dr. Bonnie
Two new deaths.

BC's Covid curve is not only not flattening but going in a deadly direction.

For once, I wanna see Dr. Bonnie Henry show a more stern demeanor during these briefings. Some people, young and old, are not getting it! Some people not wearing masks, practicing social distancing, or staying inside a small social bubble!

It's time for Dr. Bonnie to put the hammer down!

15 cases from the blueberry farm

3 active outbreaks in care facilities

Both deaths happened in long term care facilities.

I get what you’re saying but it doesn’t really point to 45 year old Suzy home maker not wearing a mask in London Drugs.

Bonnie Henry being stern isn't going to make a difference. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. She provides the public with information, and it's peoples responsibility to use that information to behave appropriately. If people are too stupid/don't care enough to get it at this point, nothing short of mandatory restrictions is going to reach those people.
Keep in mind our active cases decreased by 13 over the weekend, so I don't believe the narrative that "the curve is taking a deadly direction" is warranted. They were well aware the case count would increase with phase 3, and it remains manageable. When it doesn't I'd trust them to make those decisions that need to be made.

Damn right and my place is HUGE by typical standards

The rule only lasts a week, so I guess I can take a week off. The other solution would be to just wear it under my chin and pull it up when I come across people on the trail.

Or just take a week off and get a bit fatter and lazier

German study finds 76% of patients previously infected with coronavirus experience lasting cardiac injuries similar to those found after a heart attack

I think years from now we're going to have a huge increase of people with cardio issues, as many of the younger people who got the virus but recovered relatively easily will reach the age where these things come up often due to other issues

I wonder if the combination of everything that's been going on will cause any companies to decide to move their operations out of the US.

Large corporations might honestly move their operations there. Government handouts, dwindling corporate taxes, no lockdowns and no regard for employee health and safety.
