97 new deaths yesterday, this is now deadlier than SARS

In a few months, 97 per day will seem low

DavidNguyen 02-09-2020 06:49 PM

How many are infected? How many have died? Age?

I read on youtube that there are 100k people that are ill
But chinese media. Obviously down playing that #

Mask is pretty much all sold out. You might be lucky to get a box or two at regular price if you happen to be at the store that just got stock. All the anti-bacterial wet wipes sold out as well. There are still some anti-bacterial wipes out there but they are not safe on skin(only use for cleaning). Rubbing Alohcol is being bought up as well. Lot's of place were out of stock earlier but I think they have some now. Wife and I bought a bottle at London Drugs but you have to get it at customer service. I am guessing they do this to prevent people from buying all the stocks.

Next thing that is going to be sold out pretty quick is anti-bacterial soap. You can still find them at London drugs but I suspect as soon as the Chinese community figure this out it will be gone (BTW the brand is call safeguard). You can still buy mask online but price is like 7x higher than normal.

Wife and I order 5 boxes of N95 mask like a month again online. Still haven't receive them yet. Status is saying seller is preparing them. We kinda of need it coz the plan was to travel back to China in March. But we are most likely to reschedule it to End of April or May. Ticket is purchased though Air Canada and since they suspend flight till end of Feb if we were to reschedule we have to pay out of our pickets so we are waiting right now. We also bought 10 packs of Wet wipes to use in China and a bunch of travel size Purell to bring with us.

The Gov is too scare to do anything in case people call them racist or if they put any policy that target a specific group. My niece goes to pre school now and there are a lot Chinese that comes back after holidays. School refuse to force these kids to go to school due to the fact health officals refuse to issue statements advising people returning from China needs to self quarantine for 14 days.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

40K infected, 910 deaths, 3000 recovered. Official numbers - models show actual numbers may be 10-20X this. 100K should be assumed, but it's possibly 400K to 1 million so far, the vast majority of these in Wuhan and other locked down cities. Remember Wuhan itself had a population of 11 million.

Older people and those with existing conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease) are more vulnerable to serious illness. In healthy people, it seems to be a reall bad flu deep in the respiratory system - so not really a sore throat or cough, but inflamed and saturated lungs.

But we haven't really gotten many reports on death statistics outside the initial wave - the first 17 deaths had a median age of 75, that's all we know for sure. The guy who died in Philippines was 44, the one who died in Hong Kong was 39 IIRC (reports say he had a pre-existing condition, but I never saw what that condition was)

Just thought I'd spill some thoughts out here as I watch some XFL

BTW you don't need anti-bacterial soap - regular soap will clear your hands of the gunk that the virus lives within. Same goes for those hand wipes.

The thing to keep in mind is, the virus doesn't exist outside its environment of human goop. Either mucous, spit, snot, or poop. You don't need to "kill the virus" with soap, you just need to clean the crap that the virus resides in while on your hands.

Keep your hands clean, keep your hands off your face when they're not clean.

If you live in a condo, get to your strata and put together a plan to clean door handles and elevator buttons on the hour.

Gloves are a good idea, maybe even more important than masks. Masks are overrated, but as I said before, it's paradoxically a good thing they are overrated. I just wish the govt would distribute to people in need who are most at risk. We gave all our pre-wrapped masks to homeless people we came across yesterday throughout TST and Jordan. Govt isn't watching out for people, so we need to watch out for each other.

Change your hand towels or whatever you use to dry your hands after washing them, like every day or every other day. Some people leave these up for way too long, and now is not a good time for that

So far 99% of the infections have come from not one country, but practically one city. It's not "racist" to keep people from that city contained. If your niece goes to a school where there's a chance someone else went to that city or near it, absolutely don't go there for at least a couple weeks!

That 99% is not going to last forever. Already people are getting sick with no travel or known contact with anyone from Hubei or even China. WHO says this is very worrying, and could be "the tip of the iceberg" for local transmission.

In other words, despite all the lockdowns and flight cancellations and border controls, the virus was NOT contained.

The excuse of being "racist" no longer exists.

The goal now is for each country to manage and contain the outbreak as it makes its way around the world. Good luck!

Just like to hear different perspective on this, for those living in Hong Kong right now, how did you evaluate the risk of catching the virus between staying in Hong Kong, vs flying out (ie back to Vancouver/Canada)?

I have family living in HK, and when I’m looking at precautions set out by WHO/VCH, important precautions are avoid crowd and hand washing. Hence I’m a strong believer that there’s a lower risk of catching the virus if you stay put (in HK specifically) than if you fly out. However I have friends who thinks it’s safer in Vancouver than HK, which is true, but aren’t you putting yourself at a higher risk when you’re flying out?

Just wanr to hear what others perspective are, and if I missed anything or there’s a flaw in my thinking.

If anyone would love to share their insight, I'd be grateful to hear them.

Has anyone in HK received masks/rubbing alcohol via postage? My relatives want some, I have excess supply of both (rubbing alcohol makes good rainx), but I don't want to run the risk of it getting stolen in transit.

Careful attempting to ship rubbing alcohol, as it's a class 3 flammable "dangerous good"

I wonder if alcohol wipes work. Had a relative ask for aerosol.. that shit would explode. Also why wouldn't you just put rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle?

Here's some more info on what they're spraying It's not "mind control" or "chemtrailing the streets" and I don' think it's "a sign that this is a manmade bioweapon" as some of that guys other followers seem to think.

I think they spray it each night after curfew, to clean off surfaces that accumulated during the hours that people are allowed to go out.

It's an extreme measure, but this is an extreme circumstance.

BTW this is the damage that occurs when misleading information like "the flu is actually worse" proliferates, and part of why I keep posting here to the people who are exposed to that kind of info.

I'm hearing that the virus may be transferable through aerosol. Meaning it can travel quite long distances. Not just droplets and direct contact. Could be another reason for the spraying.

Ps, I don't actually have a Twitter account. Was shared on a video discussing the virus.

Source on that? Maybe one that doesn't have "conservative patriot" in their username ;)

I don't think newshub is a 100% credible source. It also looks like the story has been taken down.

SkinnyPupp 02-10-2020 01:35 AM

They are referring to a report from Shanghai that the virus is airborne through aerosol, which the China CDC was quick to debunk

Here is their report which states that it can be aerosolized in specific settings - namely clinical settings (such as inserting a tracheal tube)

Personally I'll wait for WHO to say it before I 100% believe it.
