China's population is aging though. They're not India or Vietnam.

https://time.com/5523805/china-aging...n-working-age/

Also, the vast majority of people do not eat wet market exotics.

In the short-medium term, I expect to see your favorite tourist destinations dominated by Chinese tourists as Americans will be continued to be banned from international travel due to the intransigence of some of it's citizens vis-a-vis vaccination.

To be a true top tier super power you need innovation. China has obviously improved in this aspect but they still rely heavily on theft of IP.

The states continue to be innovators while in the same breathe having people not wear masks because they think you’re inhaling bill gates’s microchips :/

Why is it that the “plant” style businesses such as chicken/pork packing or berry farms seem to be hit really bad, whereas when a Walmart or superstore etc employee tests positive, it’s just 1 person who seems to self isolate right away and it’s contained.

What am I missing here

Dunno but when I think of Walmart or Superstore, I think of 400,000 sq foot buildings that can disperse more droplets.. cavernous buildings whereas when I picture a food production pant, it's a lot smaller with many people inside it standing shoulder to shoulder.

It's a good question though.

We live up the street from the chicken factory in east van that had an outbreak

I can’t speak to the “killing floor” and processing etc. As they obviously don’t let the public see that side, but I’ve walked by when the night shift is seemingly having their lunch break and there must have been 150 people in a room that was 1000 sq ft. I’m sure the working conditions and the nature of food processing keeps people in very close proximity.

The outbreak in Haida Gwaii is somewhat ironic as they were banning people from going to fishing lodges and whatnot and trying to turn away tourists when in the end it was one of their own who left and came back and infected everyone.

Six more coronavirus cases identified on Haida Gwaii

Those original cases are thought to be related to off-island travel by residents, though an investigation into the initial source of infection remains ongoing.

Whatever caused it, eliminating non essential ingress (shutting down tourism) is the first step any community should take to try to prevent the virus.

So I don't think it's "ironic" that they did that and still got an outbreak.

My guess would be grocery stores have people moving around constantly who are able to take breaks independently, so they spend very little time interacting with each person. Whereas a food processing plant people are working whole shifts close to the same people & having breaks all together?

Does anyone know the protocol when travelling back to Asia, specifically Hong Kong?

I have a family member who might need to go back.
  • From what I know, you need to stay in their exhibition haul upon arrival for 8-10 hours.
  • If you fly with Cathay, you depart Vancouver at midnight and arrive in the morning hours in HK in which you will stay for 8-10 hours.
  • However, if you fly with Air Canada, the flights depart near noon and arrive at night in HK in which you will need to stay for 8-10 hours. But from what I understand, if you arrive at night and stay, they force you into a hotel instead of the exhibition haul as its overnight?
Can anyone confirm this?

Also, are you allowed to carry-on a container of lysol wipes? I am assuming aerosols are a no go for sure...

I just want to prepare them the best I can.

^ there would be too much liquid to bring an actual container of Lysol wipes but yes, you can bring wipes on-board with you. Maybe toss a dozen or so in a small bag if you can’t find a smaller package of them.

Just bring the wet ones antibacterial wipes that come in packs of 20 wipes if you don't have any other options, it may not be for hard surfaces but at least you can keep your hands pretty clean without having to constantly leave and go wash your hands in the bathroom.

Also with meat plants they're high humidity, low temperature, high density. Like working in a refrigerator. Basically an environment where a virus can thrive.

Finally the CBSA is using a tougher stance in dealing with Americans who are "travelling to Alaska" by way of driving through B.C.

https://www.citynews1130.com/2020/07...rder-loophole/

The Canada Border Services Agency is taking a tougher stance on people who say they’re travelling to Alaska through Canada.
Some people have reportedly been telling border guards they’re headed to the northern U.S. state but have ended up staying in Canada’s provinces to vacation instead.

As of July 31, anyone travelling to Alaska from the U.S. will be restricted to five points of entry: the B.C. crossings at Abbotsford-Huntington, Kingsgate, and Osoyoos, the Alberta crossing at Coutts, and the Saskatchewan crossing at North Portal.

In addition to a restriction on where to enter Canada, visitors will also have to take the most direct route from the point of entry to the point of exit, “while avoiding all national parks, leisure sites and tourism activities.”
Travellers will also be given a “reasonable period of stay” to get to Alaska, and will be required to report to a CBSA agent to confirm they’re leaving Canada before entering the U.S. again.

“In-transit travellers will be issued a vehicle ‘hang tag’ to be attached to their rear view mirror for the duration of their trip to or from Alaska to support compliance while they are in Canada,” the CBSA notes

The tag, the agency explains, will “make it clear” the person or persons are transiting through Canada. It will include the date the travellers must be out of Canada by and will also remind them to “comply with all conditions imposed upon entry and the Quarantine and Emergencies Acts and a list of public health and safety measures to follow.”

There are no restrictions on which points of entry visitors must use when travelling from Alaska into Canada.
Entering Canada from the U.S.

To be allowed into Canada at one of the designated crossings for the purposes of travelling to Alaska, a foreign national will need to show the border officer that they meet all the requirements to enter the country.

Once in Canada, foreign nationals must:

avoid contact with others while in transit;
remain in the vehicle as much as possible;
not make any unnecessary stops;
practice physical distancing at all times;
pay at the pump if they need gas;
use a drive through if they need food;
wear a suitable mask or face covering while in transit; and,
ensure good hygiene practices if they need to use a rest area.

Regardless of the reason for travel, anyone showing symptoms of COVID-19 or have the coronavirus will be denied entry.

Great vid...

Mask wearing is essential in this time. I wear one whenever I head out. However, a proper guideline must be introduced to the public about using masks.

The problem with protective gear like masks is that when used improperly, not only it has little effect, that extra sense of security could be catastrophic.

It's like just because a condom would protect one from many STDs, it doesn't mean one can go out and fuck with whoever just because a condom is used.

I'd love to see more focus on properly using PPE WITH combination of many other strategies and how by doing all that can make a difference rather than use it because it protects you.

No diff than someone from Pt Roberts. Dude drove, got stopped at border. He had doctor appointment, he was allowed to go. Wife was tagging along, got rejected by CBSA saying wife didn't have legit reason to enter and then go into USA. Dude has to drive her back mom.
