It's like just because a condom would protect one from many STDs, it doesn't mean one can go out and fuck with whoever just because a condom is used.

I'd love to see more focus on properly using PPE WITH combination of many other strategies and how by doing all that can make a difference rather than use it because it protects you.
I think that's been the point of what they are doing though. Between the physical distancing suggestions, the ban on large gatherings, closing of clubs/certain style bars, the reduction of capacity at restaurants/bars, the opening of many roadside/sidewalk patios, etc.
We really aren't going about our normal lives, just with a mask, though we were talking about it over a pint last night, that it's actually kind of starting to feel normal. I think my age plays a part though. If it was 10 years ago and I was going to bars/parties every weekend, it would feel a lot more fucked up right now.

If you're OK with having your movements tracked, you might want to install this app once it's active in BC? Maybe? The more people who do, the more effective it will be. Apparently it's anonymized, so...

In terms of anonymous tracking, Google already does this, it's how they show how much traffic there is in real time on Google maps or how busy a store is currently when you search a business.

Now I'm thinking why they don't repurpose the same method to show how busy public spaces for the purposes of COVID.

I have no problem with it, but I never go anywhere so I'm not much help.

Guaranteed a lot of the people who will refuse to be tracked by the government are currently allowing a bunch of apps from private corps to track them and pull loads of their data.

It's "supposed" to only track the unique bluetooth tokens that your phone picks up via having BT on for the previous 14 days. If someone gets a positive covid test result, they log into the app with the positive result code given to them, so anyone who's come into contact with the the covid + person gets alerted of exposure.

Of course the tin foil hat crew is going apeshit over this sort of thing. Some guy was screaming at me a month ago after his iPhone updated to support the tracking framework. Threatened to cancel everything if it got installed on his phone.

People be crazy.

They have, to a limited extent.

Locally it seems to be fine. A friend of mine was staying home because her coworker had a positive case in her apartment building. So I told her to stay home on her weekend until her friends tests came in. IIRC it was 48h and the test came back negative. So it was just one wasted weekend for her at home but worth it to be safe

Yeah that’s the difference between the way we treat public health here and America though.

Ironic that a stint in the hospital in America can destroy somebody financially, vs our socialized healthcare.

I don’t quite understand what you mean.
The irony would be if I was complimenting their health care. It’s a garbage system all around.
Or do you mean it’s ironic that it costs them so much and they get nothing from it?

Poorly worded on my part.

I meant it's ironic how aggressively against safety precautions Americans are, knowing full well that if they end up going into the hospital its gonna end up costing them $$$.

Vs Canadians who have socialized healthcare and won't get financially destroyed if we end up in the hospital, being much more careful.

"How dare you infringe on my right to get sick and devastate myself financially"

It's the education system right? There's gotta be something inherently broken there that so many decide that's the hill to die on.

Lol the news just declared in a stark manor “50% of covid infections have been in the age group 40 and below” when talking about young people and their antics.

So... the other half are 41+ years of age? And the average life expectancy in Canada is 82. So what is this stat trying to tell me exactly. That were all equally getting infected?

Not being a HeHe in this thread, just thought it was funny how the news decided to word jt

Just to elaborate further on this.

For any privacy junkie who isn't ready to have another privacy breaching app on their phone but who uses Google Map.

You can just turn on tracking (called location history) on your Google Map setting and it would give you a detailed route on where you have been and that should give you a good idea. You can then compare it.
