From what I've come across in recent research says the risk of outdoor open air transmission with no mask and decent distancing is very, very low.

Indoors with HVAC is the most risky scenario, mask or no mask, distanced or not.

Props to the managers at the Hotel Belmont for not letting those 25 people into the hotel. More than 6 people? There's no way the managers would let them into the business.

They think they can just have their party limousine drop them off in front of the hotel so that they can go to a nightclub??

When are some people going to start being more vigilant in their social circles? Their social bubbles are not only big, but some people think they can just hop from one table to another in a bar or restaurant to talk to their friends or try to hook up with strangers.

Penticton/Osoyoos over the last week I’d say under 5% was kind of a shit show. We stayed at the Penticton lakeside resort and none of the servers or staff in the restaurant etc. Wear them, a few of the restaurants outside of the hotel did but their practices in terms of social distancing and controlling exit/entry points was very poor

Funny enough on the way home stopped in Merrit for gas and as I was pumping gas like 75% of the people walking around the gas stations and fast food places there were wearing masks so that seemed a little odd lol

I don't expect there to be a huge adoption of masks unless the BC government stops pussyfooting around the issue. It's clear that giving the soft touch approach to this pandemic isn't working. Look no further than the fucking morons going out to huge house parties, raves, and clubs.

If the government makes masks mandatory then it'll sway the population that's sitting on the fence in regards to masks. I'd like to think there's a decent chunk of the population that fits into that category and that they're not all that ignorant.

I think it's time to pass laws on parties and gatherings that hit people hard. We have managed to create fines for Americans that are astronomical if they are found breaking the rules when entering Canada, why not do it across the board. Hosting a party with 50+ people? 500k fine or jail time. Businesses having massive outbreaks due to negligence? Huge WorkSafeBC fines. Money talks, and does it loudly.

This is an extreme measure that can be used in BC for repeat offenders who host large house parties.

Shut down large house parties by shutting off water and electricity. Crash that party.

But shutting off the power and water that you pay for, utilities that have absolutely nothing to do with your personal choices outside of paying your bill. That’s pretty fucked up

Rich people DGAF about a fine. Unless they base the fine on the persons income it's not going to do much. Plus killing power/water ends a party pretty much immediately.

Again, it's a threat tactic. Do you know how much of a serious issue and red tape it is to do so? Someone files a compliant, calls the cop, cop goes to someone's house.

Family tells cop to fuck off private property. Cop calls Hydro / Fortis and shuts down your gas / water. I can't even comprehend how many red tape you gotta go thru to even get there.

What if someone is on a ventilator... you've just jeopardized someone's life by cutting off their electricity. What if someone is living at a surrey special, why should a tenant be suffering due to the resident's above.

What justifies as a party honestly? Is it against the law to have a family gathering? Baby shower? Wedding?

So many grey areas... all publicity stunt.. .blah blah blah.

Converse to my experience in Richmond (where I live) today, I had to go downtown to my works office today and I saw absolutely nobody in downtown wearing masks including the servers at the restaurant where I had lunch with a coworker who also happened to be there.

I mean it's not like we're even considering it, the province is afraid to even fine people. But I imagine if such a tactic was considered, a party would simply be a large gathering (regardless of the gatherings activities) and special consideration would be given /shrug

The thing is, the province can’t just mandate masks everywhere. As mentioned before in this thread it’s on private businesses to do it themselves, it’s their property, their responsibility.

If you think you’re going to mandate masks to be worn just in general out in public, there’s no chance in hell that’s happening. I’m not wearing a mask going for a walk on residential streets etc.

It’s this kind of selfish behaviour that allows all those fucking anti-maskers to have a leg to stand on.

If the government makes masks a mandated requirement then what makes you so special that you don’t need to follow those rules? It’s this kind of mentality that’s made our numbers spike and the reason why USA has the highest number of cases and deaths in the world.

This is a global pandemic and affects EVERYONE because we all have parents that are old as well as relatives. We all need to work together to help prevent the spread. If you need to wear a mask then I’ll wear a mask. I just can’t fucking believe how selfish people can be to not understand that.

Because there is no need for that kind of enforcement. There is ample proof transmission outdoors even among groups is very low. Walking around your neighborhood social distancing is more than adequate for your average person.

I’d say it’s also asinine to think people would ever follow just a general mask rule like that. Wear them in doors, wear them in private businesses, wear them if your work place has close contact with strangers.

Bonnie Henry even said today, masks are literally the least effective form of protection.

PPE is -always- the last form of control you can enact



If your out and about walking in public practicing social distancing, taking different routes, crossing the street, actively avoiding touch points, etc etc is far more effective than wearing a mask.

Hondaracer, no one is telling you to wear a mask when going for a walk. But if you’re at the park with lots of people, wear one. Going shopping? Wear one. Going to a parking lot car meet? Wear one.
