Alberta, quebec, and Ontario all have more active cases and are basically reporting near identical new case numbers to us.
B.C. doing poorly right now is really only relative to how well we were doing. Shits going to hit the fan when school starts, everywhere though.

It'd be a bit easier to compare if our testing wasn't around 1/3 the national average.

Yea I don't actually think our numbers were that low, more like they weren't testing anyone. I heard on the news that bc only had the capacity to test 3000 ppl a day when they said they had 8000.

I have said it before. Prevention is important, but what's more important is track and tracing.

Until we get our hands on a system that effectively track any public movement (it can be completely anonymized by simply assigning to a number instead of a person for privacy)... like demanding anyone participating in big social gatherings to download an app and register, there will be no end to it.

People would get fatigued. They will get careless. They will carry around virus without knowing.

Just relying on using PPE is NOT the way to go and everyone should stop advocating such. Yes, we need to continue using PPE to minimize transfer... but by advocating this way, it gives the fake sense of security that if we all use PPE, that's enough.

We desperately need a way to effectively track and trace people in larger (anything >5) social gathering or hubs like skytrain.

It can be done without breaking our privacy laws. It's just no MP or politicians are interested in this.

It’s pretty much impossible to do what you’re saying.

I’ve read a few different studies where that was attempted but even in the most random meta data they were collecting there were still unique identifiers which could be used to isolate individuals.

Not like cell phones and whatnot don’t already do this, but you’ll never get people to willingly take part.

Yeah, Ontario is testing something like 20-30k a day. Plus, Toronto alone has a higher population with more density than Greater Vancouver yet they're reporting about 25 cases per day.

BC Soccer announced their next phase of return to play to allow games being played.

So youth and adults will be back on the pitch playing against each other.

People are getting reinfected with a different strain of the virus, which makes a vaccine to combat COVID likely to be ineffective.

if only a small portion of the population that is/can be reinfected for whatever reason it can still be effective no?

Sounds like COVID 19 is here to stay. Time to be more responsible and adapt to current situations and become better.

Covid is Forever. RIP restaurants, bars, theaters, concerts, seeing a sport live, traveling anywhere outside Canada, and having more than a couple friends over at a time.

Even if Covid is cured things shouldn't change just in case another virus comes along at some point. Better safe than dead.

58 new cases today. Much better than anything we have seen in a couple of weeks.

The reinfected patients report moderate to no symptoms. Just as expected, like colds and the H1N1 Flu it'll eventually fade into background noise with or without a vaccine.

How often do you get a cold and then a few weeks later catch another one? Guy in HK wouldn't have even known he had it twice except he went through HK airport.

^^^^Might be too early to suggest that, I believe it was italy, that reported suspected reinfection case patients had it much worse

And its been suggested that given the body/lungs are damaged, reinfection could mean death

But again, too early to say anything

Honestly it's quite scary to realize that reinfection can happen, basically it will never go away. You would think a pandemic would end, but then it could start all over again if someone got reinfected and spread it to other. Of course tracing would be much better but even then the never ending fear is among us. This is some serious real life zombie movie right now.

I know, not supposed to post in here due to self isolation, but I thought of those RS members who have Covid-19, like MrHappySilp, who don't want to admit it. If you are hoping to recover, here's a little something from the 60's.

Stay safe, stay home, and wear a mask...........

For you youngsters out there, back in the day, 98.6º F was deemed the normal body temperature for humans. Of course, it's no longer the case, but you get the idea.

Called it..... mutations.

In all the news stories I’ve seen regarding reinfection, all it really means is that a booster shot will likely be needed akin to a flu shot, measles booster, etc.

Just because reinfection occurs doesn’t mean it never goes away or isn’t treatable.

Universal flu vaccine is currently undergoing human trials. If they can protect from all flu viruses, I'm sure they'll eventually work on something that will work against all coronaviruses, not just SARS-COV2.

Not surprised people can get reinfected; humans are strong, then again, viruses are also strong and being able to mutate / change strains...etc. Doesn't surprise me at all.

Glad we found this shit out.

I'm a bit blown away on this: all the rush to try to find a vaccine and now.... it might mean SHIT ALL cause even if you have it, you MIGHT / most likely deem useless as the strain might change.

What does this all mean.... even if a vaccine is out in a years time, there will be no black market, there will be no Russia versus China versus USA on trying to buy the first batch...
No more... who gets it first ... think of the gong show on distribution and all... So in a way, I'm thankful. It'll be a flu shot... SURE, get it, but doesn't mean it'll prevent you from getting COVID.

I don't think you people understand the definition of immunity. You can get a virus and fight it off or you can get a vaccine. Your body produces anti-bodies and T-cells while fighting it off or from recognizing the inactivated/modified virus. Your body remembers what the virus looks like and files it under "do not let this person patronize this store".

Immunity doesn't mean there's suddenly an invisible force field surrounding you blocking that specific virus from entering your body. You can still have the same virus or a mutated version enter you and cause symptoms, but the hope is your body's immune system kicks in and knocks that shit out before it causes real damage.

That's just my layman's understanding. A real medical professional can vet what I just said.

With vaccines I believe it’s like 65-75% immunization for herd immunity
