I spent some time out in Langley and Aldergrove for work recently and Abbotsford to look at a car for sale and I was the only person I saw for an entire day with a mask on. Except for Nordstrom Rack cuz they force you to put one on. | I would agree early on and all the way into the summer about Langley but I would say the last few months it's been better. I do all my grocery shopping there, I would say probably 95%+ of people are wearing masks at least when grocery shopping.
I don't really go out much besides grocery shopping once a week but that's been my experience anyway.

Langley still DGAF.
We took a drive through Fort Langley on Sunday, and it was like there was no pandemic happening. The 50's diner looked packed. Not a mask to be seen anywhere.

The company I work for deems an “exposure event” being in contact with someone who is covid positive over a 5+ minute time frame within a confined space speaking face to face without masks. This is a company that has multiple doctors on staff and has consultants within the govt.
Fort Langley is literally -all- outside. There is not a common cause-way or enclosure you have to go into to get into any of the shops, restaurants, etc. And as far as I could tell most people would put on a mask if they are going into shops, etc. Restaurants seem not to care about wearing a mask upon entering because you’re going to be sitting and taking it off ASAP anyways. I’ve dined our a fair bit during covid and have yet to see a restaurant require masks to go to the bathroom, exit/enter, etc.
You want people to wear masks inside their homes too? Like, Fort Langley is entirely outside, the risk of transmission is very low.
Has there been one single outbreak from a business where people come and go? Somone with covid May have dined or came into the business and the follow up contact tracing but I’ve yet to hear of a situation where a business or restaurant has been the site of an outbreak.

Crazy. | I had heard awhile back that Australia had reported much lower occurence of regular flu as well (since it was already winter for them). You can thank heightened mask usage and hand hygiene awareness for this. Hoping to see a similar trend for us here in Canada!
edit: USA has surpassed 9mil cases, 230k dead.

I was in Langley last weekend and it seems like they were "ok" in terms of mask use. I would pin it roughly around 70%? I had brunch, went to Popeyes, Toy Trader, Art Knapps.
Lower than Richmond for sure but not as bad as I thought it would be. I had set the bar low and my expectations were closer to 20%.

So my point is, why are the restrictions province wide when its appearing more and more like there is one area and demographic that seem to be the problem? Even Ontario and Quebec are breaking restrictions down to regions.
Also, Kelowna might not have the density of downtown vancouver, but have you been to Costco or Canadian tire on a Sunday afternoon? Its no different anywhere you go.
Funny thing is all thru the summer when we were seeing almost no spread of Covid, the Canadian Tire wouldn't let more than like 5 people in the store at a time. Now that Covid is on fire again, its busier than it usually is at christmas, and no capacity limits, line ups, or social distancing in place. Mask usage hasn't increased much between July and now. Cases haven't changed much either.

It’s been explained before. If you don’t have a lot of cases, you won’t have a lot of spread, no matter how good or how shitty of a job you do. Especially now that Kelowna isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot, you guys could go around sharing popsicles and no one is going to get it until the spread starts off.
Just like it was here in the lower mainland, it’s the snowball down the hill effect. It gets bigger, then goes faster the longer the hill is until you manage to get a flat spot.

| CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) - Quote:
A soccer club in Chilliwack says it has been forced to hire security because of abuse staff and volunteers are facing from parents frustrated over COVID-19 restrictions.
In an e-mail to families, the Chilliwack Football Club says some people have gone so far, it could be considered a “potential violence in the workplace issue.”
“It’s really unfortunate that our members, some of them, not all of them, have chosen to behave poorly,” Andrea Laycock, Chilliwack FC chairperson, says.
She tells NEWS 1130 there have been multiple incidents over the past few weeks of staff being on the receiving end of verbal abuse.
“We’ve had them come up to the table using very vulgar language, that [parents] think this isn’t necessary, that they’re fine, and just blow right past the contact tracer who, usually, sits there stunned and shocked at the behaviour,” Laycock explains.
“They feel that they have every right to just take them down verbally, and just treat them generally very poorly. That’s just not fair, and is just a total disregard for the rules and policies that are in place.”
Laycock says in some cases the contact tracers are moms or retirees looking for extra cash.
If kids are to play amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Laycock says the club has no choice but to enforce mask wearing in certain areas, have limits on the number of spectators allowed to watch games, and take down names and numbers.
She adds much of the anger is around the restriction on how many people can watch games, which is currently one person per player.
“We would love to be able to turn over that decision and go full bore again, but we can’t. We have to follow the health orders if we want the kids on the field,” Laycock adds.
In the e-mail sent to families, the club says some interactions have been “so horrific and borderline violent” it has hired a security company to send someone to the field on the weekends “to do a sweep.”
Laycock thinks of them as a “presence, so people know this is serious.”
“We want the kids playing soccer. We want the kids being able to play their hockey, and field lacrosse, and football. We want them in sport, it’s so important to everybody, and especially to the kids. We have to follow the health orders that are in place.”
The club is now asking all parents and guardians to read their Return to Play COVID-19 Policy and sign it, acknowledging they’ve read and understand the document. If not, their child will not be allowed to play or train.
Laycock hopes the letter helps put an end to the aggressive behaviour, but she admits that may not be the case.
