Based on what I've read, there doesn't need to be a lock down yet. Surrey, Abbotsford and New West are the current hot spots.
We just need people to be smart.
who am i kidding, we fucked.

Here is a breakdown of the Covid cases from this past weekend:
VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) — B.C. recorded 1,120 new COVID-19 cases over the three reporting periods over the weekend, including six deaths. Of the cases, 352 were recorded Friday to Saturday, followed by a record 389 over Saturday and Sunday, and 379 more from Sunday to Monday. Of the total, 830, or 75 per cent, were in the Fraser Health region.

How full are the hospitals?
Their capacity is what should dictate lockdowns.

The problem with that is you end up with growing numbers of cases and deaths to a point where it's uncontrollable, and they frantically try to lockdown to see if that'll help? Seems too risky and irresponsible

So much nicer. Feels way cleaner and a twelve pack of tp lasts like 4 months!
Regardless of tp shortages, bidet is the way to go

People can test positive and have little to no symptoms. The numbers really don't mean much. Until you see what hospitalizations look like.

my sister is a nurse at St.Pauls and while they do not disclose the volumes of people in the "Covid" wing, the ER is still used to intake covid patients and she has said since she returned about 1.5 months ago, it's completely dead day after day.
OD's make up the majority of the intake, not covid

I get that rising cases need to be dealt with but holy shit, I'm glad some of the people in this thread aren't in control of when things get locked down, no one would have a job by now.

My hospital is busy enough as is (outside of covid). We don't need this added shit load of idiots getting themselves infected and then seeking our help to fix their stupidity. Fall/Winter is always the worst on it's own already. Again, much like the first time, the goal is to stop this from becoming a gigantic issue. Prevention, NOT reaction. I'm repeating myself again but no one wants a full lockdown. However, if cases keep progressing like they are what choice do we have? You can't have it both ways. There is no "having your cake and eating it too" here.
You simply cannot let something like this spiral out of control and THEN say "oh ok let's do something now".

Are you a doctor? Are you working in the covid wing?
Because the two nurses in my immediate family are both saying their hospitals are less busy than usual and the ICU is dead.. one in Vancouver coastal, one in Fraser health..
I agree we need to take a proactive approach but if hospitalizations remain stable at 200/300/400 cases it’s not like at 500 all of a sudden there is going to be a tidal wave of hospitalizations. You would think at this point in the game the people in charge of this would have I’d relatively dialed in as to where things need to be.

I work in pharmacy (main pharmacy, emergency and cancer clinic). Just on Saturday, we had a large number of people be admitted to hospital that weren't related to covid cases. Surgeries have picked up and so have other things that were back logged during the shut down. I can't speak to other hospitals/ICU units as I am not actively seeking out this information.
Again, like I said above, it isn't the covid cases at the moment that are making us busy. It's the regular things that happen, working through the backlog, as well as managing all the precautions needed to prevent any sort of outbreak occurring in the hospital. Having worked in my current hospital for about 7 years now, I can tell you honestly that it feels like the usual winter rush minus all the visitors roaming around the place.
I don't know what the magic number will be that will cause a full shutdown. That'll be up to the health authorities. All I can do is encourage people to do the right thing and go on with their lives with the recommended precautions. It's really going to suck if the irresponsible ones cause another stoppage but I can't blame the people in charge for taking the necessary steps (if required) to take control of the situation.
side note: lots of psych cases lately, probably more than usual. this is causing a lot of issues too (limited capacity, reallocated resources, added stress, etc). Oh, and there's also on going renovations both planned and unplanned.

My wife works at Surrey Memorial and she says the nurses who work in the Covid wing are getting slammed hard. To the point alot of them are leaving their positions for less stressful/busy positions within the hospitals or at other hospitals. I dont blame them, they all get paid the same whether u work in a busy area or a dead area.

I don't think those of you that are saying "the hospitals aren't at their limits" understand how small the number is compared to the population is required to hit capacity. Here are some numbers. https://thetyee.ca/News/2020/04/02/C...pitals-Mapped/
