Let's not forget Taiwan and HK, there's proven strategies that work, it's just whether it's politically beneficial to put these strategies in place. Based on Canada's trying to be average on everything track record we're fucked.

The amount of quarantine exceptions the Canadian government has granted is pretty pathetic. Fucking Costco ceo cutting a ribbon being deemed “essential travel” tells you what are issues are.
Oh you’re rich? Please spit in my mouth. Thank you sir may I have another?

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Passengers boarding or waiting for transit need to have a mask on now that TransLink has expanded its policy.
Masks have been required while on Metro Vancouver transit since August, but since the province has issued a provincial order, the rules have been changed.
Those who are able to wear a mask must do so at any indoor shelter where people are boarding or waiting, which includes stations, platforms, bus stops and loops, as well as bus exchanges.
Face shields are not an acceptable replacement for non-medical masks or face coverings, according to the transit authority.
TransLink also can’t issue exemption cards anymore since masks are an order from the province. Transit Police will speak with any passengers not wearing a mask.
Failing to wear a mask can lead to a $230 fine, which Transit Police can issue.
However, TransLink urges customers not to enforce the rule themselves.
About 95 per cent of people on transit have been wearing masks and TransLink expects compliance with the changes.
Good to hear they were at 95% compliance already, and that face shields aren't being accepted (drives me crazy when I see NFL coaches wear these and getting away with it)
Yes, but the worlds largest unprotected border. Not saying people are jumping across the ditch but we aren’t Israel with our border control
How much traffic comes across in unprotected areas though? Obviously it's hard to get exact numbers on illegal crossings but I would imagine it's a pretty small percentage of the normal amount of legal crossings.
Unless those island nations have really cranked up their coast guard I imagine smugglers are still running boats in and out or getting things through ports. It might be harder to do than sneaking across the Canadian border but I'd be curious to see how different it really is.

A friend of mine just arrived in Australia earlier this week because her partner lives there. Security picks you up from the airport when you land, sticks you on a bus, and takes you to an undisclosed hotel for 14 days of quarantine. She is on day 5. They don't mess around.
Korea is the same, arrive at the airport, you pay $2800 and they escort you to a designated building for mandatory quarantine for 14 days. 3 meals a day is provided for you. If you open your apartment door other than to pick up the tray of food an alarm sounds.
I follow this guy on YouTube, he reviewed all the food you get during the quarantine, looks pretty good haha
He did say he was getting bored of eating "similar" food day in and day out, but he made the most of it and looks decent. He's doing exercises, watching Netflix.
The key point is after the quarantine is done, the successive videos of him eating around the country looks NORMAL.
I would love to be able to do that here, but alas... FREEEEEEEEDOM!

I don't think people are grasping, we're talking about singular cases causing district shutdowns in these places. That's how tight the ship is.
There's literally zero room for mistakes. Everything must be accounted for.

Yea Mikey Chen’s experience was interesting he did a good job documenting it. I enjoy his vids even though he’s a bit over the top seems like a legitamitely nice guy
My wife watched the videos with me and she’s like Uhg..definitely would have to be ordering from the Korean supermarkets lol..I thought I could get by on most days especially with those chicken cutlets etc. Breakfast leaves a little to be desired though
As a counter example to his Korean experience though on the Canadian side my wife’s idiot cousin (she is like a legit dummy) went to LA in August to meet up with a guy she met online... her dad who she lived with at the time had no idea she was there until she phoned him and tried to lay out her quarantine plan as his place. He said lol good luck, figure it out yourself.
She flew back to Vancouver, told the border agents of some BS plan, and then proceeded to have a friend pick her up and ultimately made her way to Squamish where her mom lives..who knows how many people she came into contact with etc. However giving any sort of BS plan was enough to get into Van and basically do whatever you wanted

Over the last few months I've actually coincidentally overheard a few customers that I know for a fact broke quarantine.
One guy I chatted with:
Him: Oh ya this is my 10th day here.... I mean 10th day... after finishing quarantine... so umm ya it's my 20th day
Me: You mean 24?
Him: Ya, ya right.
A dad and son:
"Ya today is our 14th day of quarantine, we are from Atlanta"
In my mind [but he was here 2 days ago, and 4 days before that.]

Alberta is still in the 12XX cases and Ontario hit a new high, just shy of 1900 cases.

So as you can see, policy is more important than being an island.
#grandma #grandpa lives matter, sure it's easy to say let the old people die, and 10 a day isn't much but why don't you roll up to your parents house and tell them to go die, give me that inheritance for the condo
If you no longer have the ability to communicate or barely can and are being spoon fed In some facility so your family can come say hi for 15 minutes a week then yes, I did.
As Bonnie once again said today, almost all the deaths occurred in long term care facilities. My parents and most people’s parents I know would share that sentiment I believe.
It’s not a better situation in that yesterday they were alive and today they are dead. However given the circumstances if people in those conditions contracted covid and were having to deal with the fight involved, I’d say Yea, you’re probably better off dead.
Again, I go back to people getting their panties in a bunch over an 80+ year old long term care resident dieing but no one gives two shits about the 16 year old junkie that ODed.

^ I see them both as no longer contributing to society and using resources.... but at least the 80 year old fuckin earned it and ostensibly pre-paid into the system their whole working life. Give em a break, they’re not sacrificial lambs........

On top of that it's not just ppl in long term care homes dying and not even all of those are invalids, and of those it's not our place to say "eh whatever bud ur better off dead"
