It’s crazy because doing that right now wouldn’t even be fun. Shits closed everywhere, flying would be stressful as fuck. Like chill for a few months and this will be over faster. I guess when you think it’s some global conspiracy to take away your rights you don’t understand that it will go back to normal and be fun again.

I know a handful of ppl that vacation/winter in Puerto Rico and Mexico, they went down there again within the last month
Said it’s pretty fantastic as it’s completely dead while all the restaurants and bars are still open. Only complaint seemed to be their friends from the states that winter down there as well are mostly staying home.
As with some of these “travel bloggers” though I feel like it’s kind of ignorant to go to these places that remain “open” because you’re likely coming from a larger city/country where cases are surging and now you’re potentially bringing covid into these small towns if you were infected.
WJ and AC also just opened more flights to Hawaii recently. They were saying on the news this morning that if you fly home into Calgary the quarantine is only 3 days instead of 14 because of the quick testing at the airport there.
If I didn’t have to quarantine for 14 days upon returning I might go to Mexico or somewhere and rent a condo for a few weeks. I’m not really itching to go anywhere quite yet though

That being said, people are definitely taking the chance and going on cheap vacations in Mexico or any other place that won't force you to quarantine and then they can quarantine while working from home upon their returns.
Personally, I am too scared of catching the virus and dying to go to Mexico. They have the 4th highest death count with covid, lack of medical resources among other reason why covid is rampant there. CAn we even get travel insurance right now?

If the government is officially telling everyone that we can't even spend a few hours over Christmas with our parents then how the fuck does it make sense that we can all sit together in a metal tube with recycled air for hours on end just to go on non-essential travel? IT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE |

Asked if we wanted to tag along, hard pass.
Anyway he knows I've been there quite a few times in the past so he asked me for a bunch of food recommendations. I wrote out a detailed list of my favourite spots to eat.
He messaged me when he got there and said more than half of the places I suggested are closed and the other half are mostly take-out.

I think there is a disconnect or double standard here. The gov doesn't even allow us to see family, yet almost everyone is considered essential and company's see it as business at usual. We still have to go into the office mingle with co workers let alone random anti masking customers.
If seeing our own family is that dangerous we should shut all businesses down for a few weeks australia style and cases should stop immediately.
Dragging on restrictions here and there clearly hasn't worked for the last 12 months, if it did our numbers won't be this high now. Quote:

I agree to an extent, but the thing that’s been proven so far is that people are being accountable in a work setting, and people haven’t been accountable in a home setting. As said though the issue is LTC more than anything and they don’t seem to be putting the right things in place to solve that.
I really think they should still allow people to see their bubble, but maybe only in public settings like restaurants, parks, etc where there is more control of the variables. But I’m also not a fucking doctor, so my musings are just that.

out of self imposed covid thread self isolation
gotta get the death count down
so many of the deaths in this country are occurring in the 85+ age demographic (a separate conversation could be had about the importance of artificially keeping these folks going, so many at that age are dying because they have legal measures in place that prevent invasive treatment of any kind. remember that pneumonia has been called the old mans best friend for centuries)
On the plus side - there aren't that many 85+ year old's in the whole country. Under a million. Protecting/immunizing those folks both directly and by getting LTC and other healthcare workers setup won't take that long (like a few months)
Combine that w coming out of winter and in my mind it's a whole new ball game by march.
After that, the numbers won't really matter. Get it, or don't' get it. If you are statistically likely to not suffer any harmful effects from C19, job done. At that point bring back the old normal as soon as possible. Every day of living like this becomes mentally harder for so many people (not to mention financially)
I do wish that we had implemented a short shut down over christmas. 2 weeks with a hard reopening date that coincides w christmas school closures. Probably would do a lot of good, and lots of small business shuts down then anyways.
EDIT found something - this is the info I referenced above https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/corona...tcan-1.5205790

I don't even know why governments are going back and forth with what they are saying. Like how Ontario already has lock downs but they also say that they won't commit to a tighter lock down, but also say everything is on the table. Cuz cases are record high.
What kinda message are you trying to send here. Just like Donald Trump saying he won the elections. Not accepting the truth that you failed.
Like I called it months ago, you're just dragging this on till you end up like Alberta asking for field hospitals then your have no other options left but to shut down.

Honestly, in the big picture I'd say BC is doing pretty good in terms of walking that tight rope of keeping businesses open while battling the virus. You look at places like Toronto where there have been far more restrictive measures and they continue to see record highs but I think that has more to do with the nature and geography of Toronto itself rather than the measures, 4th biggest city in North America?
AC and WJ opening those routes up may seem counter to the directives, but they are no different than the restaurant or business trying to stay open, albeit massive companies comparatively if they let people fly and the countries allow them in, you do what you gotta do to survive.
