they don't want people streaming onto granville again and giving Marcella Bernardo 3 months to bitch about it in the daily briefings.

all they had to do was give some notice. because they didn't it is absolutely a huge surprise and a huge kick in the gut to the restaurant industry. my local guys took prepayment too, that refund is going to be savage for them. the food waste alone is tragic.

If it's about people piling onto Granville, they could've easily put out a notice that officers will be actively giving out fines on the street, and or arrests. Simple as that. To restrict restaurants to 8pm booze sales on NYE is fucking insane.

What a ridiculous decision on so many levels that will literally elicit zero protections.

It's honestly been such a HUGE disappointment with how VPD has handled issuing fines and making arrests.

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A man in Vancouver who chose to keep holding parties despite the ban on social gatherings in B.C. might have been the first one in the province to be arrested for it.

Police had been called to the 24-year-old man’s downtown apartment at least a dozen times because of noise and party complaints, and officers had been there six times since November. He was also fined $2,300 twice in December.

But it was a loud party on Dec. 18 that brought yet another noise complaint and prompted police to get a warrant.

With the holidays approaching, Sgt. Steve Addison said further action needed to be taken after multiple warnings and fines didn’t seem to stop the gatherings.

“It was clear to the officers who attended repeatedly, through this man’s words and this man’s actions, he simply didn’t care. He was going to continue having parties,” he said.

After repeatedly hosting parties and gatherings despite a ban in B.C., a 24-year-old man was arrested Christmas Day

Police say the man had been fined twice already and officers had been to his apartment six times already

The man was released with conditions, which include following health orders

“It was clear to the officers who attended repeatedly, through this man’s words and this man’s actions, he simply didn’t care. He was going to continue having parties,” he said.

The man was arrested on Christmas Day and charged under Section 99 of the Public Health Order for violating COVID-19 restrictions.

Addison said, as far as he knows, this is the first time this has happened in B.C., noting it was an “unusual step.”

The man was released the following day on bail.

“With bail comes a number of conditions that we’re hoping will encourage him a little bit more to obey the public health order,” Addison said.

Now the man has to open the door when he’s home and police knock, follow public health orders, and he is only allowed to have two people in his apartment at a time.

If the man doesn’t follow his conditions, he will be arrested, again.

Addison believes the police won’t have to visit the man again and reminds everyone else public health orders are to be taken seriously.

You get 6 visits from cops after at least a dozen complains SINCE NOVEMBER and he was only issued a fine twice. What a fucking joke!

To glean some positives from this shitty situation, being forced to shut down the restaurant early this year means that I can go home and countdown with my family for the first time in like 20 years. :toot:

I call B.S. on Dr. Bonnie.

Restaurant owners and staff are supposed to infer from her "hints" from the past few weeks about the government plans about a restriction on liquor sales in restaurants, bars, and liquor stores on NYE?

Really?? :rukidding:

When asked about the last-minute change for #NewYearsEve, Dr. Bonnie Henry suggests they’d been hinting at it for a while now.

"hinting" at policy changes is worse than saying nothing at all, and is grounds for dismissal. FailFish Get rid of her

MarkyMark 12-31-2020 08:57 PM

lol fuck off, I don't even have any kind of financial connection to restaurants and it's clear that's a bullshit claim to make. So now on top of having to find ways to keep your business alive you have to be Nostradamus as well.

Fuck off with your "hints" and be direct with everyone. Follow through with what you say or you deserve these shitty case numbers we keep pumping out every week. Enough "warnings" to everyone fucking up and then penalizing businesses that follow the rules because numbers spike.

These quick knee-jerk reactions that make headlines but don't do fuck all are getting redundant.

As shitty as it sounds she doesn't deserve B.C. having low Covid numbers, she's not doing anything to deserve that kind of positive publicity right now.

MG1 12-31-2020 09:05 PM

That's it, I'm gonna smash those Dr. Bonnie Henry BBQ Sauce bottles I got earlier this year. And, I'm not going to vote NDP ever again............ wait............ there's nobody else left to vote for, gulololol.

neither do I - but I am a small business owner too, and I hate to see these guys get done dirty like this.

what's interesting, is that Dr. BH has on previous occasions revealed that she was formally a restaurant owner/partner etc.

i just can't get over this one.

it's dumb, but after 9 months, this is where they lose me. My business peers have been shit on tonight, for no reason. What a way to end the year.

What a weird way to torpedo support from the business community. I just can't see the upside on this one? Why not announce this a week ago? If you can't be transparent at this point - fk off.

underscore 12-31-2020 11:32 PM

Hinting? What kind of bullshit is this? This isn't high school, either say it or don't.

Pathetic enforcement (in the case of the guy throwing all the parties) and hinting at policies. What a place to live.

Alpine 01-01-2021 12:05 AM

It’s clear she’s just the face for communication. The people making the calls are always behind the scenes.

twitchyzero 01-01-2021 12:13 AM

there’s lots of consultation but she has final say for our orders

don’t know why every other person stuck their neck out defending her approach/policies

we got fucking lucky in late spring/early summer

remember when she kept reiterating low risk, low risk! during initial spread then cried on camera the next day? how masks weren’t mandated until like month ago?

turn our nose up at ‘Onterrible’ because we have sTrOnG LeaDerShIp

If it makes you feel any better, Bonnie Henry's position is not affiliated to any political party. The previous PHO served for 20 years in the position through numerous government changeovers.

Yes, praise the Chinese!! Without them, we wouldn’t have had a spring or summer to enjoy here in BC! Or COVID-19! Bravo China!!

Seriously, your last handful of posts in this thread hating on Canada (while I assume you are here enjoying everything Canada has to offer) and now suggesting we have one specific race to thank are really showing who you are as a person.

kind of off topic, but maybe on topic.

How many of you are parents and are considering pulling kids out of school for the first 2 weeks. So sending them back on Jan 18th instead of Jan 4th.

Since it takes up to 14 days for the symptoms to show up, wife and I are worried that we wont see the result of the chaotic holiday gatherings until/upto Jan 18th.

Of course I have the benefit where my wife is a full time mom that stays at home, so there are no complications to keeping them home. But what are your thoughts?

welfare 01-01-2021 08:57 AM

How old are your kids? I thought the studies had shown at least 10 years old and younger weren't transmissible

The NDP create a TV ad about a “Covid guy” creature that can spoil people’s holidays.

To be fair, what Horgan said was during a time it was believed to be true. Also, who the hell is this Australian doctor? Another one of those I want to be noticed, attention seekers? Since when do doctors and researchers have the time to be on twitter? Shouldn't she be working on more important things than to be attacking what a politician said a few weeks ago?

But.......... she has more than 25, 000 followers............ so what?

You're leaving out a lot of important information in that over-simplified synopsis.
Quote:

“We can speed up the process of adapting the population to the new virus by using vaccines … so that we don’t have to wait 100 years for this to become a sort of low-grade endemic coronavirus that causes a cold-like syndrome in wintertime around the world.”

...

While some pathogens mutate to become less lethal, Soucy said that’s not the case for every virus.

...

With so many questions remaining, Jason Kindrachuk, a virologist at the University of Manitoba, maintains that the possibility that the COVID-19 virus will become endemic is not a “foregone conclusion.”

...

But Kindrachuk worries that overconfident predictions that COVID-19 is here to stay could breed complacency among a pandemic-weary public, when Canadians should be working towards the ultimate goal of stopping the spread of the virus.

“We can’t resign ourselves to a particular outcome at this point,” Kindrachuk said. “We still have a lot of the outcome in our hands.”

JDMDreams 01-01-2021 09:38 AM

Wasn't it proven that kids gets some other illness and symptoms if they do catch it. I don't believe that kids are immune bs. Everytime I see ppl bring young children into crowded places with no mask:ohgodwhy::facepalm: considering kids are the dirtiest too where they touch and lick everything.

dark0821 01-01-2021 09:52 AM

my kids are grade 3 and kindergarten... and yes, they can be infected if exposed....

I think you totally misunderstood what he said. I took it as the local community (like richmond, who I personally saw adopt masks OVERNIGHT back at the end of January)
