One of my relatives works in the film industry as a lighting technician. That relative and in general his colleagues are super happy to be working again now that TV series and film work is happening in BC.
He talks about the strict Covid protocols such as one hairdresser/make up artist per cast member, if possible based on budget, masks for all film crew, and no carpooling to filming locations.
No more catering buffets though. Each employee who works the film/TV set can get an unlimited number of pre packaged meals and snack boxes.
The surprise is that some film crew members did complain about the absence of the catering buffet.
Really?

Also two groups of 6 who were obviously 1 group of 12 celebrating a birthday apart but together. (On top of that we sang happy birthday as a restaurant to them lol..Had an amazing meal and great date night but yea..that was kinda fucked lol..
c'est la vie | With such a small floor space was there at least screens between tables?
If you don't want to name the restaurant that's fine but you should at least give the owner/manager a heads up because it's a real backhand to the rest of the industry. Just because they haven't been caught doesn't mean they aren't essentially pulling the same type of douchery as that Cold Tea place.

Dr. Henry and BC's Education Minister Jennifer Whiteside made an announcement today: Middle and secondary students, as well as all staff and teachers from K-12, will be required to wear masks while in all indoor spaces at schools, including within learning groups.
The new mask requirement, which is part of changes announced on Thursday, does not apply to elementary students, for whom mask wearing will remain a personal choice
As part of the new requirement, masks can only be taken off when students and staff are sitting or standing at their seat or workstation in a classroom, if there is a barrier, or when they are eating or drinking.
“It is critical to remember that masks do not prevent the spread of COVID-19 on their own. We still very much need the other layers of protection. We need to ensure students and staff continue to follow safety guidelines including, very importantly, not coming to school sick, even with mild symptoms,” said Minister of Education Jennifer Whiteside. In addition to the new mask mandate, provincial guidelines have also been updated for physical education and music lessons. Going forward, high-intensity physical activities are to be held outside, “as much as possible,” the province says. Any shared equipment can only be used if they are cleaned in between uses.
Students should also be at least two metres apart while using equipment or playing instruments. Masks must be worn while singing.
i asked one of my friends, a high school teacher, about what he thinks about Dr. Bonnie and this announcement.
Truth to be told, this high school teacher buddy of mine, is certainly not a fan of the doctor. He calls her "spineless".
Calls her out for not putting provincial health orders last year for mandatory masks for all teachers, students, and other school staff. -not mandating physical barriers such as plexiglass to give an extra layer of protection for teachers.
My friend spent about 80 bucks on Amazon to buy a 32 X 24 inch plexiglass barrier to put on his classroom desk because he says that the Vancouver school district is not giving schools the money to buy more protective equipment.
My buddy said that the any funding the Education Minister gives to the school district is not given to schools. -won't even give 100 bucks per teacher for a plexiglass barrier.
The school district can just save the funding from the Ministry of Education or claim that they are hiring more teachers.
"Pathetic!" as per what my friend said about this announcement.
The school where my friend teaches only gave him two masks.
What are your thoughts about this announcement? I'm curious to hear from any parents on RS about whether you think the Education Minister and school districts are doing enough in terms of protecting teachers, students, and school staff from Covid.

Teachers whining? That’s weird.
I don’t have much time for the VSB as they seemingly waste money on totally useless shit and then don’t provide for teachers (if what you’re saying is true)
I find it a bit hard to believe your friend was only provided with 2 masks though as my friend who works for the VSB grounds services got a whole package of PPE etc

Of the 3 teachers I know, they all say that the precautions in place have been adequate and feel safe at school. I mean, I wear my own masks all day every day. You need them to go anywhere, so not sure why I’d expect someone to provide it for me. People love to cry about shit.

Also PPE is more than readily available everywhere at this point. At my workplace I could go grab 1000 masks right now if I wanted to. As well as unlimited hand sanitizer etc.
A lot of teachers seem to be the type to not spend $5 on a decent mask to make a point they didn’t get adequate PPE and get sick just to prove a point

What you do not realize is the amount of stress many teachers are experiencing right now with increased workloads. You think their workplace stress is just from Covid?
Here is the backstory that you may find interesting. A bunch of rich parents in Kitsilano threatened to sue VSB if teachers do not provide more in person learning in addition to online teaching. The VSB got scared about the potential lawsuit.
As per what my teacher buddy told me, as of November 2020, it's been in class teaching every day AND online teaching for students at home. That's right, the teachers have to do two jobs at the same time. In class teaching and support online learning every day.
It is not just my buddy the high school teacher who is feeling stress from work. I asked a couple of colleagues. My colleagues said that their friends, who are also teachers, are experiencing more work related stress because of this teaching arrangement that the Minister of Education is mandating.
Teachers are doing two jobs at the same time, every day at school.
People who say that teachers are whining about their jobs don't have a clue what kind of fucking politics is happening behind closed doors with the VSB. As per what my buddy the teacher said "The VSB and the teachers union betrayed us".
As per 320icar's reply, it is "pathetic!".

not really helping our public health's image Quote: Officials apologize after more than 200 vaccine doses pulled from remote B.C. community
Harding referred to the vaccine as a "gift" to the nation
...
Harding left the community with an RCMP escort on Jan. 22, five days after arriving, because he thought people were going to "stick him up,"
...
VCH confirmed that Harding took 230 vaccine doses meant for Bella Coola back to Vancouver, but the health authority would not disclose why.
...
at 5:21 p.m. Harding replied, telling the Nuxalk that if a "plan" was not provided by 10 a.m. the next morning, "the vaccine will no longer be available."
The community provided a plan at 10:02 a.m., but Harding said it missed the deadline. | https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...nity-1.5890828 |

Guess what, everyone who works with the public has added stresses and additional responsibility due to the pandemic. You think Nurses and hospital care staff have it easier than teachers? Lol at least teachers are working in a controllable environment with the same people coming and going. Many of us who are still working with the public can easily be considered to be in an “uncontrolled” environment where we don’t have the luxury of plastic shields everywhere and seeing the same handful of people everyday. Some of us see hundreds or THOUSANDS of strangers on a weekly basis and we are relying on the decentcy of people to wear a mask or do the right thing to protect us lol..
And none of us can look forward to a couple months and say oh yea, 3-4 months of not having to work period, what a shame.

Lots of teachers work very hard and deserve more money, however, lots of us are in the same situation. We work harder during this, and money has dropped. Nurses are working harder and so are medical staff, so are grocery store workers, so are restaurant employees.
The fact is the people who have had their workloads decrease, get to “work from home” which in so many cases just means dick around on their computers and go to Whistler on a Wednesday, would shit their pants if the budgets increases which would cause taxes to increase.
If people want to stand behind teachers, be ready to pay and not complain about it.
I’m good with that, but with it I hope there’s some reform in the teachers union that rewards the good teachers, instead of always just complaining while bringing no solutions to the table. They have done a horrible job for decades at representing teachers in the public eye.

Reform within the teachers' union would somewhat help address the workplace issues that teachers are facing.
Politics happens in any work environment. I understand that. Heck, I have seen management at a former employer promote favoritism towards some employees and outright beatdowns of some employees because certain ladies provide sexual favours or one idiot chose to date every single lady in that office and break up with them. That guy was lucky that a manager's buddy didn't beat his ass down at an office party one year during the holidays.
Covid has made the workplace even worse for some people.

I’m in the same boat, if the money was going to be effective, by all means, give teachers more.
However it’s much like what I’ve said in the past regarding homelessness. If the CoV could get rid of homelessness, take another $300 a year in taxes, by all means.
However both groups are seemingly so fucking incompetent with their money I’d rather pull back the money I give than provide more to waste frivolously

Like paying cain's salary to give at vi at 7 am in the morning on a parked car on private property, vs deal with all the shootings we have every week and police have no clue what's going on, or the dt corona penthouse parties. Cuz they don't want to"escalate the situation"

Earlier this week I heard a story from a nurse I know at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, where there is currently an outbreak. I didn't hear this directly from her so take it for what it's worth.
She has received the first of 2 doses of the vaccine. Her supervisor essentially bullied her into treating patients in a room where the conditions for transmission are high (I think she said it was hyper-oxygenated?). She asked for a protective suit beyond the N95 and was told they don't have any. Her supervisor lied and said the patients in the room had all tested negative. So she went in and did her job. After she had come out, the doctor on the floor told her that no, they had not tested negative, their results were still pending.
I haven't heard if those results came back negative, but I hope she stays safe. Maybe she and others should take this kind of treatment to their union rep or even the press.

That HSBC call centre was in Burnaby. The sexcapades happened there and at after hour co worker gatherings at karaoke places.
You may be referring to an I.T. office building in downtown Vancouver.
I digress. -back to Covid discussion!
Dr. Bonnie hopes that Super Bowl Sunday is not a superspreader event.
Check out this story from NEWS 1130: https://www.citynews1130.com/2021/02...ing-465-cases/
As we make plans for the weekend ahead, let’s ensure we don’t make the Super Bowl a superspreading day, by making safe choices. This is especially important given we are still learning about the full impact of the variants of concern now in our communities,” reads the statement.
