The government has said they can implement those fines but as of right now, no one has to pay the fines.
We've jokingly said charge $10 per head for 100 ppl and that goes a long ways to covering the fine for hosting the house party.

Look at the travel restrictions. It's recommended not to travel. Didn't someone here plan to go to Mexico in March, I believe they said that back in Dec.

Plus like what others have said, the gov says one thing then its something different the next day. No proof or facts and are just making it up as they go along.

This is the type of mentality that has allowed this shit to persist for over a year.

"The government isn't doing enough!"

"The government is doing too much!!"

Everyone needs to think about that for a second and decide where they lie in all of this.

Let's just shut everything down, and the people who WFH can have their wages garnished and spread out evenly among everyone who can't so we're actually all in this together.

When the govt. is setting up road blocks to prevent you from going to properties you own. That’s when you can start making the Nazi comparison.

But hey, my Rec got broken into and destroyed but ya know, better not drive that 3 hours because I may come in contact with those 0.0025 people with covid.

Just willingly giving up rights and freedoms to a government who’s basically just throwing shit on the wall to see what sticks? No thanks.

It’s not a conspiracy theory or ignorance to not want to give a mile every time the govt. asks for an inch when they clearly have no clue what to do anymore.

If Turd had paid the price to secure vaccines early on, we wouldn’t be in this boat. The way money has just been squandered this entire pandemic, you should have been prepared to pay any cost to get the most vaccines as quickly as possible.

The longer it goes, not only goes the pandemic get worse, the faith in vaccines also diminishes

Govt. at all levels take huge responsibility in the way this has played out. Make no mistake.

I'm not advocating for any one solution but all I'm saying is that everyone is always on the government's ass for not enforcing the rules and "doing their part" but when someone brings up a hardline idea then it gets absolutely skewered cause 'mah freedums!"

Nowhere in your post did you mention anything about "going to properties you own" or your "rec got broken into and destroyed"

If they actually released any sort of data to back up their claims, that would go a long way to reassuring the public as opposed to these hasty measures implemented with zero background information

actually WFH's are probably going to get a tax break - which is crazy.

https://financialpost.com/moneywise/...et-a-tax-break

there was a fringe politician that suggested a surcharge, but i can't find it.

So much hate for people currently WFH.

I wonder if the people who are complaining now were previously thinking how they would never want to work in an office, pity or laugh at those who do and think how much better their job or industry were before the pandemic hit?

bro, i don't hate anybody. I don't pity or laugh any anybody either.

there are people putting their health on the line to keep their careers and communities going.

there are people who got sent home last year, who simply aren't facing health, or financial hardships.

both those groups of people want to talk about how tough the last year has been. the second group, for better or for worse have not had it as tough as the first group.

i guess i'm just tired of hearing about how challenging it is to be stuck at home, or how brutal it is that the gym is closed or some shit.

i apologize if I have come across as condescending towards office workers. I have several folks that fit that description in my life. I guess I am a little jealous too. I can promise you though if I was the one at home I would be keeping my head down and my opinions to myself, especially around people that i know are getting kicked in the gut already.

These business closures are a raw subject, and it's possible that it's unrelatable for folks that simply aren't affected by it.

I must've missed where everyone who is WFH hasn't taken any financial hit. Our household income has been dropping for 10 months now and is currently about 35% of what it was a year ago. Currently on track for me to be unemployed and down to 15% within the next 4. Just because someone's not getting fucked in the exact same way as you don't mean they're they cause of your problems or that they aren't getting fucked as well.

RS is a good place, a safe place to just let it out. I think many people are just tired of Covid now. Covid fatigue. The impact of this pandemic on people's mental health is HUGE.

I go to RS to read about what peeps are saying on this thread. For me, this is a safe haven compared to the Internet trolls that spew their negativity on the other platforms during this cancel culture that we live in.

This pandemic has been tough on me mentally because of all the negativity we see happening now. -dark dreams, angry thoughts, venting about things when calling friends or chatting with friends online etc.

I am confident that this pandemic is gonna end sooner or later.

I don't think any restaurant owners, or the 10's of 1000s of restaurant workers signed up to be the carrot on the stick. all along we've had a little line let out, then some taken back, then a little more out, and now within sight of the finish line we're being reigned in hard one more time.

we're not doing what we're told by mom and dad, so once again they are taking away our favourite toys. the easiest and most direct way to do that, that has the greatest impact on the segment of the population they want to correct the behaviour of, is to shut down the restaurant industry. Everyone either is in it, directly knows people that are in it, or frequent it. Horgan literally told us there would be consequences for bad behaviour on friday and here we are on monday, getting lectured and ultimately grounded.

my issue is, and always has been, that they are disingenuous about it. Show me the data, show me what specifically you hope to accomplish here. Stop talking with your hands and discussing "finding a balance". True balance and fairness would be to take the legs out from under a different industry this time to get the message across, instead of continually wiping out hospitality. Trouble is I can't think of any others that would work almost universally.

My final plea. I feel like I've done this every few months. Pleas stop only thinking about "the numbers" and start having some fucking compassion for people who's lives get thrown upside down every time this happens. Anybody anywhere that's glad they've closed the restaurants and the mountains and any other employer, are the selfish ones in the province. Your fellow citizens are getting screwed, and it's not right.
I get the analogy, but I don't think it works. If you look at the places that have been successful with covid, strict travel & mandatory quarantine is the #1 most effective thing, and strict rules for restaurants is the #2 thing. It's not a 'carrot on a stick' or "punishment for millennials". Having groups of people indoors without masks is what allows this to spread, so that means restaurants, because everywhere else people can keep masks on. Add in alcohol and, well it's like adding it to a fire.

It really sucks for people in that industry, but that's how it is. Covid fucked you and the travel industry harder than anyone else.

However I think shutting them down completely is not the right thing to do. Seriously, just copy what the successful countries are doing. Limit how many people at a table, limit opening times, limit total capacity. Some places have closed alcohol-only establishments. Have mandatory tracing check-in to be able to dine. Enforce this strictly.

Do this for 6 months and it won't be a problem. I guess it might be late for that now, unfortunately.

^ Agreed. It's too late with the variants in play now. We needed to clamp down before the aggressive variants took hold of the community spread. Easy to look back at it now and say "we should have...this..." though. I'm sure if they forced the the sort of restrictions that worked elsewhere as proposed with a heavy hand people would have just a bad of a negative reaction saying "well, prove transmission is in restaurants, there are no variants here yet, Nazis"

dr henry acknowledged the feedback from shutting down restaurants without notice from new years eve

then goes and does exactly that again less than 3 months later...who wouldn't be fuming

how do you go from allowing worship gathering then just mere days later take it back? the variants community spread didn't just start happening last week. that's really not helping with trust in the health orders and 'doing our part'

Honestly it made no sense why they kept announcing churches would be open again, even the increased group size for hanging out outdoors was stupid bcuz numbers were already consistently high and rising then

Everything they're doing doesn't make sense though, and on top of not making sense it's been half assed
