my relatively low-risk boomer parents not in a hotspot that waited few weeks for their age group booking both got pfizer
i predict all essential workers wanting AZ will get them very soon..it's literally day 1 of limited 30+, your workplace will also want you protected so they dont have to shut down for few weeks if a few of you become positive
so maybe talk to HR about getting groups taking turns having time off to go get the shot?
in a few weeks the government better be ready to start offering the 2nd doses...that's gonan be creeping up real fast

VANCOUVER — A Vancouver man arrested on allegations he was running a makeshift nightclub inside his penthouse has pleaded guilty to three charges, including failing to follow orders of a health officer.
Mohammad Movassaghi was sentenced today to one day in jail, a $5,000 fine and 18 months of probation after previously pleading guilty.
Judge Ellen Gordon noted his one-day jail sentence has already been served, but he'll also have to complete 50 hours of community service work.
Movassaghi pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to comply with an order of a health officer dating back to January and one count of disobeying a court order from a charge in March. | https://vancouversun.com/news/local-...health-charges Quote:
Judge Ellen Gordon described the event as “a crime, not a party,” and something attended by people “foolish enough” to put their and their grandmothers’ health at risk.
“If someone who had been at your party was infected and died, as far as I’m concerned, you’re guilty of manslaughter. If someone who had been at your party was infected and passed it on to grandma, as far as I’m concerned, you’re guilty of manslaughter,” she told him.
“What you did, sir, is comparable to individuals who sell fentanyl to the individuals on the street who die every day. There’s no difference. You voluntarily assumed a risk that could kill people in the midst of a pandemic.”
| It was mentioned in the news last night that if Crown had seeked a jail sentence, the judge would've handed it out. So why didn't they?
At least they seized all the cash and booze at the property. I wonder if the strata will do anything?

ICU staff are working at full capacity with staff so stressed out that they're losing their tempers over normally minor things because they simply do not have time to cater to delays of any sort.
You've all heard by now optional procedures are again being delayed to make room and free up staff for other areas. What you might not know is that covid wards are now also being expanded which includes temporarily segregating non-negative pressure rooms to house covid positive patients. To the best of my knowledge Facilities Maintenance is working on creating more negative pressure rooms but they can only work so fast (as we have established in the past).
I can tell you first hand that the number of staff I'm seeing in ICU is a lot more than normal. I can tell you first hand I have stood in the same room and talked to covid positive patients in emergency and then later see them intubated up in ICU. How many of you are willing to step into a room knowing for a fact that person has covid? Even if you're being paid because it's your job?
The best analogy I can think of is the fire department. Yes, we staff and equip them all year, every year in perpetuity. But we don't sit around and start fires expecting they'll be able to put them all out no problem. We also don't look at all the fires surrounding us and quip "yeah but i'm sure some of those were naturally occurring so whatever". Remember the Australian wildfires? How about the wildfires that have plagued our own province in the recent past?
There is a max we can handle and we are fast approaching it. Please get yourselves and your loved ones vaccinated. Thank you to everyone here who is helping the effort in this thread. It is greatly appreciated! At this point, every little bit helps towards attaining the normalcy we all crave. | My spouse is an RN in Fraser Health, and an interesting point she brought up was how they don't have beds in ICU for non-covid cases like a lady with a brain bleed because of the influx of serious covid cases already occupying the beds. Also heard they've either started or will be doubling up covid patients.

I registered a couple of weeks ago, got my code last week and went in for the Pfizer appointment yesterday. Didn't feel a thing. So much so, that I had to look and check there was actually a needle in my arm. Waited the 15 minutes, before leaving and went on with my day. A bit of a sore arm a few hours later and a mild headache, a few hours more. Other than feeling a bit lethargic throughout the evening, no other side effects. I hope nothing else creeps up and I can go on with my day.
Hopefully, the health dept gets better organized and communication improves, and vaccine supplies increase. It'd be nice to get my second dose closer to the recommended 4-6weeks, verses the 4 months they predicted.

if you're eligible, go get a shot. this could be any one of us. it's not some random 4 in a million statistic - it's a guy who grew up down the street from me. he literally missed the option to be vaccinated by 2-3? weeks. he might still be alive
if you end up in a hospital (or worse) a month from now, you'll sure wish that you hadn't waited for the "better vaccine" because of some stuff you read on the internet
this isn't an attack - i just think for some people, even after a year of this, it just isn't real enough. | So turns out after this guys family all had covid he ended up catching it and tried to “gut it out” at home to the point where he could barely breathe and insisted on staying home and not going to the hospital. The interview on the radio said he has to sleep sitting up for 2 nights in a row because his lungs were so full of fluid. The autopsy showed his lungs were basically full when he died.
Obviously a terribly sad story but I wouldn’t exactly call it a cautionary tale about getting covid.

Well I mean, covid killed him, so yeah, I'd still suggest against getting it if you have the option of preventing it with a vaccine. Even if you don't think the brand of it is that sweet.
Don't worry though, we both know you and I don't have to make that choice since we don't get to have vaccines.

Obviously a terribly sad story but I wouldn’t exactly call it a cautionary tale about getting covid. | Yah this, didn't want to speak ill of the dead but I wonder how the story would have turned out had he checked himself into the hospital or ER instead of trying the home healing method. Only cautionary thing about this story that I get is ... if you get Covid, don't try to be a super hero, go to the hospital if things get real bad.

My fucking garbage “union” actually had the gall to tell people to message their MLA’s with a letter writing campaign to try and he included in the essential workers list instead of actually puting out a statement in the media etc.
Prior to being part of a union I had pre-conceived notions about them. However the one I’m in is so fucking pathetic it can’t even protect the cancers within the organization which I thought was what they did, so I guess I can’t be upset when they are completely absent in trying to protect the health and safety of their members.
I’m not saying we should be ahead of bus drivers etc. But a simple mention that people who have been “essential” and working in completely uncontrolled environments wouldn’t mind a shot would have been nice.

In a nutshell:
- The first dose alone gives excellent efficacy
- The benefits of getting more first doses out in the population more quickly greatly outweighs the potential complications (ie reduced effictiveness) of delaying the second doses.
It's a good call IMO, and Canada is not the only country doing this (UK did it first)

With a lot more Pfizer doses coming starting in May as well as the introduction of the J&J vaccine, hopefully vaccination will happen a lot faster.

The organization or lack thereof with these pop ups is mind boggling. Leave it to FB and Twitter to let people know they can go for a vaccination. FFS.
