Remember when everyone was wishing we could be like Australia? lol..
Biggest state gets completely locked down over 20 cases and polls showing 2/3 of residents have vaccine hesitancy or worse

I wasn’t as I figured this type of thing would happen eventually anyways. And now places that looked good before are doing quite poorly
Credit to BC and Canada I guess but everyone has been trying different shit from the start and some seemed to work, some obviously didn’t

I gotta say, the last week has been the first feeling of hope in a long time this will actually end. We are looking better than most places, if the vaccines can hold. If not, there’s really no way out of this than it just happening naturally.

Some good news from Dr. Bonnie:
B.C. to detail shortening interval between first, second COVID-19 vaccine doses
VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – British Columbians are expected to learn more about the interval between first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines when Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry provides an update Thursday afternoon.
This comes just two days after the province unveiled its restart plan.
Currently, the time period between first and second doses sits at 16 weeks in B.C. However, Henry said on Tuesday that was going to change.

So Honda, do you take back all that prior negativity in terms of vaccine rollout and governance?
We're certainly looking pretty good here, compared to other countries.
I've become quite impressed at how quickly we've been able to ramp up these vaccines.
My first shot is scheduled for Monday.

I think the initial rollout was super slow, and I think they could have prioritized people better. But once it started ramping up I’m quite impressed on how well they’ve kept the momentum going. Good job!

Yup, this is why the US government is trying to bribe their people to get vaccinated.
Free food/beer, lottery tickets for $1M grand prize.
Promise things will open up and no mask when ppl get vaccinated.
And now there is talk Canada is considering doing the same for the few people that refuse to vaccinate.
Still hearing chatter from people who refuse to be the test mice with the vaccines.

I think you have to do more than just look at where we’re at now and look closer at how we got here and what could have been done better. Earlier in this thread we had an argument about how junkies lives weren’t worth as much as some 90yo covid patient
If anyone actually feels that way then the fact that care homes and whatnot were essentially left to their own demise and tens of thousands of people likely died when they could have put preventive measures in place should be at the top of the list of how poorly the pandemic was handled.
From a personal point of view I can agree it’s nice to see some kind of light at the end of the tunnel but really I was never in danger, my mental health is the same as it was prior to the pandemic, I’m substantially better off financially than prior. It’s all roses for me.
On a global level I can give the govt. at both levels some credit. And as much as people dislike Bonnie she was in an impossible situation from the start especially saddled next to sack of shit adrien Dix. But as I’ve maintained all along, we are Canada, we should be doing above average.
Also, how much of tempering expectations was done for political gain in positioning for an election? No one will ever know but given Trudeaus track record nothing is out of the question

and they are in the opposite hemisphere - with a directly opposite respiratory virus season
you never hear this when Australia's covid response is mentioned - or at least the timing of high and low infections.
(I'm obviously aware that they have handled it vastly differently as well)

They interviewed a couple aussys on 980 last night and they said no one is very pleased with the way things have played out. Govt. has done very little to get vaccines into arms and Apperently the murdoc media group has been running all this anti-vaccine propaganda with almost no rebuttal from govt.
They played a clip with some rep from queensland saying 100,000 vaccines may be available shortly in the coming weeks as if that was somthing to hang their hat on lol.
Let’s be real, from the beggining there was nothing as important as vaccines. I don’t care if you’re the USA or India, there was -nothing- more important

Speaking from personal experience as a Canadian living in the US. Remember back in January, California had a record spike and the news were doom and gloom. The moment they aggressively rolled out vaccination (I think it was Feb) to everyone, the situation improved drastically within 2 months.
BC reopening timeline is no doubt modelled after other success stories like US. Target full reopening in September is very conservative. I think you'll see recommendation of relaxing mask mandates in certain situations come out sooner than September. By July, it should feel very "business as usual" for most places. I have no doubt beaches will be semi-packed, and that would be ok.
The moment covid hospitalization dropped down to a maintenance level, there is neither reasons for strict mandates nor could they justify it to the public.

My first shot is scheduled for Monday. | While I don't always agree with Hondaracer, I can understand where he's coming from. After reading his posts and putting them all together, it's not so much that he's trying to be negative or trying to be overly critical of the government, it's more so that he just expects more as a Canadian.
I think in a really weird round about way, he thinks and sees Canada a country that should be better than others. When we fall short of that, he has something to say about it. It's not about Libs vs. Cons or any one else, it's sort of patriotism on his part.
Though I do have to say that that name calling Trudeau as turd takes attention away from his messaging.

Got my shot on Monday (Moderna) - logged into the healthcare gateway portal and it says I'm due for my second shot on July 14th.
Kinda wish I got pfizer since I'm hearing people are due for the second shot in June!

That’s only seven weeks from your first dose. No one who’s gotten Pfizer is getting it faster than that.
