Assuming Canada’s population is 10% of America, if as Sdubfit says we need a control group.

Canada deaths 26k, america deaths 664k. So even multiplying our deaths 10x to match America’s population, we still have only 1/3 of their death total, and that is a country who has to some degree done something to combat covid.

With the whole anti Vax thing, I'm surprised the gov isn't putting their foot down like biden or NY to tell the Karen's to stfu and make it mandatory. Since it's probably like what 1% of the ppl that are anti mask and anti Vax? So why is the gov risking the health and safety plus economy of the regular 99% of the population to cater to the rights and freedom of the 1%. That's like me going into the mall and restaurants and start smoking and blowing it into people's faces. I think we should make consequences for the ppl who still won't vaccine or wear a mask. Maybe MSP doesn't cover their hospital stay or no pay for staying home for quarantine or Coronas.

Biden and NY aren't mandating that federal employees get vaccinated. They're more making it so that federal employees attest to getting the vaccine or they have to wear masks and submit regular screening. I wouldn't say that it is "putting their foot down... to tell the Karen's to stfu".

Also, a key difference is the vaccination rates between our two countries. If we're already in above 80 for single dose and just below 70 for two doses. If what you're saying is accurate, that there is 1% of people that aren't getting it, would mandating federal/provincial employees to get it really make a difference?

Keep in mind that the even if US is forcing people to get their vaccines, they are also providing a reasonable alternative of masking and getting tested.

It's such a slippery slope when it comes to withholding treatment. What if someone is immunocompromised and can't get the vaccine? Tough shit for them? How do you get to decide where to draw the line?

That's cuz the article was about the record breaking hospital admissions,

The more you force and single out people to do things in the US, the worse the outcome is. There's a large percentage of population who truly believe they should be able to do whatever TF they want. Just look at the political landscape. It's never going to happen. MFs are dumb AF.

So we're kinda stucked with carebear policies like blanket mask mandate to buy time to "flatten the curve" AGAIN. Antivaxxes MFs ain't gonna follow it. Vaxxed people, like me, will grunt and pout but we're still going to do it. Because we're not cunts. We're not gonna make a scene, throwing hands at Costco to not have to wear a mask. These type of policies literally bank on people like us.

Goal posts have shifted, as far as medical professionals are concerned. At least for the time being. Hospitalizations remain low, ICU rates are low, and the days with zero deaths are the norm as of late.
It was never about keeping people from getting sick, it was about overwhelming the healthcare system, keeping people from getting completely incapacitated from their illness, or dying.
It's not over, it still matters, but we've got to figure out how to live with the virus still existing as long as people are going to compare being asked to get life saving vaccines with some form of genocide and oppression.

Got an email at work saying we're putting back the stricter rules. I don't see how bonnie can say we're well in track to reopen by sept. They say cases are gonna double every 10 days so by sept we're gonna have at least 1200 cases a day? And we reopen everything? ??? Profit

If there's 20000 active cases of covid, but 100 people in the hospital, and 1 or 2 people dying a week, does that warrant the same response as 7000 active cases of covid, 700 people in the hospital and 80 people dying a week?
What's the number you expect to see? 0? 100? 1000?
If you're waiting for this to be over, might as well lock yourself in the basement until the food and water shortages kill us all, cause this isn't ending.

If the goal posts have shifted, then they should train us not to respond/react to the number of cases daily ... stop reporting that number and alarming the public. Don't even announce that. Just announce number of hospitalizations and deaths.

no reason it can't be over, look at hong kong and taiwan right now, less than 2% vaccinated in the latter and they just staved off their first real wave and also about to roll out their own vaccine

i read dr. hinshaw's interview today and her policy actually makes a lot of sense..why should we continue to put covid at the forefront after 18 months when cancer diagnosis is way down.

if we're gonna reopen after hitting say 75% fully vaccinated threshold, then reopen everything including international travel.
